almost Hurts me too watch it!

I'm gonna go with Jack Tatum's hit on Sammy White in Super Bowl XI

Watch the chin-strap.

nice pick, but i think the speed of the camera makes the hit look a little harder than it was.
here's the video that i picked previously only with a little humor added to it:

GOD THAT HAD TO HAVE HURT!

I disagree. This hit actually looks worse in "Super Slow Motion":

You have to consider that this hit is coming from Jack Tatum aka The Assassin - one of the hardest hitters in NFL history.

Tatum's the guy that ended Darryl Stingley's career (Even worse hit than either posted above). Ohio State hands out weekly awards named after him, the "Jack Tatum Hit of the Week Award". Make no mistake, Tatum hit like a concrete-wall and Sammy White was lucky to walk off the field.

the biggest diffrences netween my hit and yours is that bush was lifted by the hit into the air landing on his back which could have caused broken ribs.your hit was too the head, but if you see the reaction on the players face,he doesnt look all that Hurt or Mangled for that matter.
watch the video again as bush is lifted into the air from the hit.sheldon brown clearly lays a legal crushing hit on bush whichtakes him out of the game.
also notice that bush's legs point upwards at the point of contact.

There are only so many video angles available for something that happened in 1977. So...

Your Reggie Bush play occurred on the Saints second offensive play of the game. Bush returned on the following drive and went on to record the following statistics:

12 Rushing Attempts for 52 Yards and 1 Touchdown.
3 Receptions for 22 Yards
3 Punt Returns for 21 Yards

So I have to ask the question, how much damage was actually done? Reggie Bush merely had the wind knocked out of him on a clean hit. All he had to do was regain his breath and he was good as new.

Sammy White, however, took a blindside helmet-to-helmet collision. That's the definition of "defenseless receiver" In today's NFL, it would have been a clear-cut 15-yard penalty. But up until the 1978 NFL Season, those hits were perfectly legal.

White most likely suffered a concussion. It's impossible to say because people did not understand the risk or long-term damage back in the day. But for White, it wasn't as simple as breathing to recover... brain damage is permanent.

Zach Thomas once laid out Pats WR Terry Glenn so hard that Glenn was out cold with his arms spasming in mid air. I wish I had a clip of that hit.

Best College football smack: Derrick Brooks leveling a Miami player back in the early 90's. Actually, I think he had many of those in that game. Miami won the game by the way.

I'm an Eagles fan and I never like Reggie Bush... great video Geno.

I voted left. Right was a good hit as well, but the receiver hung onto the ball.

LOL at the Iverson video.

Peaceknuckle's choice was the hardest. Atwater ended the Nightmare from Nigeria.

But for this TD I voted For good Ol Jack, the hit was helmet to helmet which was legal back then and the effect was obvious.

That hit on Bush was a hard hit to the chest by a shoulder pad on a dead run and no doubt hurt like hell. As is evident by Bush standing up then falling back to his knees. But I have to go with Jack Tatum. He was a monster on the field. He laid out Pittsburgh's John Fuqua, Hit WR Darryl Stingley so hard he paralyzed Stingley for life, Laid out Sammy White so hard, they had to go out onto the field and GET him. PLUS, hunt down his fillings, along with part of his gear. Bush lost the ball yes, but White lost a few brain cells and gained a concussion after getting hit by Tatums shoulder pad, at full speed, right on the chin. That was Jack Tatums game - "Balls-to the-Walls"
