Age, talent and the ability to improve those around him, LeBron is the most appealing player in the NBA. With that said, rather than risk having him walked and returning to being arguably the worst team on the planet, Cleveland should trade LeBron before it's too late.
Straight up, they could get Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Boozer, Dwight Howard or Devon Harris and Brook Lopez.
I think Cleveland loses in all these trades, but at least they put themselves in a position where they are pretty good and a player away rather than losing their franchise following the season. Losing him in free agency would be risking losing their entire support base, rather than getting back a franchise piece to build around.

So what your saying is this:
Before they even take a chance at the possibility of him not resigning they should just trade him? Your saying that there is no chance he will resign and that trading him before the offseason is the best idea?
Let me tell you this my friend, that idea of yours is just about the dumbest thing I've heard all day on this site.
What could the Cavs possibly trade for that would be getting equal, or even close to equal value in return for Lebron? If you honestly think they could get Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or any of those other players you mentioned, your crazy.
You see, teams don't trade away their franchise players for the most part. But these trades never happen, when both teams are giving up their franchise players. Well, at least not anymore.
If Lebron does not resign with Cleveland in the offseason, they're best bet is making a big splash in the free agency market outside of Lebron, or going back into rebuilding mode and dumping Shaq as well.

I agree that keeping LeBron is the best way to go.
But if they can't right's argument is stupid to me. Making a big splash in free agency? How?
How good is a LeBronless Cavs? You can make the argument that The King has the worst supporting cast in the NBA. They are the very reason he is considering leaving.
And while Cleveland is a fine city, wouldn't a very good player but not James type superstar go somewhere with more marketing potential? Chris Bosh to Cleveland? Please. He'd sign less to go to New York where Stephon friggin' Marbury was a superstar and got a multimillion dollar sneaker deal.
The fact of the matter is if LeBron walks for nothing, Cleveland is back where they started. Complete ineptitude.
And I think a team that LeBron would consider such as the Nets would be prone to give up Devon Harris and Brooke Lopez, because this would make signing LeBron in the offseason that much easier.
Would you rather have MJ for 1 season or John Stockton and Karl Malone for 10? That is the question I am proposing here.
PS: I'm thinking as a GM, not a fan.

Lebron's supporting cast isn't great. But they could still be a great team if they had plenty of money to spend on a great free agent class.
Here's the main thing I disagree with you on, do you want to trade him just for the sake of getting rid of him because you can't resign him? Do you want to just trade him away for some random players so you can say you got SOMETHING in return? No.
What the Cavs should do instead if they can't resign him is one of two things:
1. Go after some of the other big name free agents. Off the top of my head, one guy who is just as likely as Lebron to become a free agent is Dwayne Wade. Now I'm not saying they could sign him, but if they had the money to, I think it would make for an interesting situation for both sides.
2. Simple, rebuild. Prepare for a long 2 or 3 years, knowing that you have plenty of cash, flexibity and young players. Dump Shaq for a pick and/or other young players, and make sure you are geared up for the future.
Both of those are better options than just trading the King for the sake of doing so.

To address your two points regarding losing him:
1.) They could get Dwayne Wade in free agency? Really? Dwayne Wade is going to leave the comfort of playing in a great warm weather city with a talented young point guard in Mario Chambers and a headcase but very, very talented big forward in Michael Beaseley to go to a smaller market with virtually no young talent? I'm sorry. That won't happen.
2.) Who is going to take Shaq? The Cavs only got him cause they got to dump a lot of garbage money. The NBA lottery always makes it a crapshoot. There is no telling how long it will take for them to rebuild.
As far as dumping him for random players. Isn't random players what they have now? By trading him they get to not only choose where he goes but who they do want to rebuild with.
Again, I think they should do everything they can to KEEP LeBron but if they can't, walking away with nothing will be franchise threatening as they watch him win titles while they are in the NBA lottery.
OM= Andrew Luck said 11/08, 01:38 PM
I didn't say they'd get Dwayne Wade, I said, given the cash they would have after losing Lebron, they would certainly be competitors for him, and the leading candidates for whatever other great players declare for free agency.
What does this even mean? "The Cavs only got him cause they got to dump a lot of garbage money".
Are you kidding me? Shaq cost them a ton of money. What is "garbage" money anyways? Pretty sure all money can be used to spend on things to improve your team. If they do lose Lebron, I gurantee you they dumb Shaq as they only brought him into to try and convince Lebron to stay.
And I still disagree with you on trading him. They wouldn't be getting half the equal value, but that isn't even the worst thing. The Cavs would not be getting what they wanted, they'd be getting some players that they chose as a consolation to Lebron. They'd be getting a bunch of 28-34 year olds who are underachiving, selfish players. Guys like Jamaal Crawford, or Stephen Jackson, or Al Harrington. Not saying those would be the exact names, but guys similar to them.
Picking up a bunch of random players in a trade to add to an already random assortment of playrer would do nothin

LeBron is not leaving Cle anyways, mute point, no matter how stupid it is. Giving up the chance to sign him is the worst thing you can do on and off the court.

Anyways, Cavs Suck. No pick and roll D and Shaq, Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker were all terrible pick ups.
Magic would sweep if they played 7 game series.

No team is going to trade for him because they will give up to much and suffer the same fate if he looses. This is just a silly arguement! If you really think Orlando would trade Howard for James straight up you are crazy.

This never works. Stupid idea because no one will trade a big name for Lebron knowing he is a free agent so what will the Cavs get a bunch players that sit on the bench or underachivers.

You are an idiot. Yeah, a sweep. Thats happening, considering they JUST PLAYED in the ECF..... was that a sweep? No.
Moon hasnt played much, and Shaq and Parker havent been bad.
You really should just stop posting on anything Cavs related. Your blind hatred for the team causes you to lose all objectivity, and you post idiotic comments like that.

Hmmmmm, dump one of the best players in the NBA so you can get something for nothing (if MAYBE you can't sign him)?
Hey did Elgin Baylor start this TD?
Or Isiah Thomas?
Or Kevin McHale? (we saw how the KG thing worked out)
