Eye gouging isnt like other personal fouls. You could leave a guy blinded for life.

I know many football players get hurt from late hits and theoretically those illegal hits could impair their lives...but a limp is different than being BLIND.

When it is clearly evident a player was eye gouging that idiot should be suspended for 12 months. and they should lose their scholarship for that year. after its over the school can decide to give him a 2nd chance or not. if he wants to transfer he can use his sit out year as his suspended time.

we dont need to allow this crap.

Urban Meyer just lost a lot of respect by trying to downplay the seriousness of this incident.

Football is a tough game for manly men...but eye gouging is a cowardly act that LUCKILY hasnt yet resulted in what would be a lifechanging injury.

I DONT THINK SO IT ALL IN THE EMOTION OF THE GAME IF YOUR IN A BAR SOMEBODY GETS YOU ANGRY YOU MIGHT START A BAR FIGHT SOMEBODY SAYS SOMETHING BEFORE THE GAME OR DOES SOMETHING DURING THE RETALIATE IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT SERIOUS BUT IF YOU GET GATOR MAD THEY DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO AND TH E ONLY RESON HE GOT OFF EASY IS BECAUSE UBERN MEYER IS HIS COACH ALSO IF YOU CAN WACTH POLUMLU GETTING PULLED BY THE HAIR SAME THING CAN BREAK HIS NECK AND GO DOWN TO HIS SPINE

lets examine the flaws in your "response".

1. Troy Polamou CHOOSES to wear his hair like that knowing the rule states it is considered fair game.
2. You can't chose to not wear your eyes.
3. Bar fights have NOTHING to do with this article.
4. You fail to see the lasting permanence of being blind. Its not like other injuries....you don't just heal when your eye is ripped out.

You don't seem to know much about football. As a former coach and player (aka...benchwarmer...) I can tell you that emotion uncontrolled is NOT a good thing on the football field.

If you are so shallow a person as to try and gouge out someone's eyes bc they SAID something to you....you are an idiot.

1 year suspension. Period.

Eye gouging is worse that chop blocking.

i bet you would let your emotions get the best of you but the eye gouge thing is not a big deal that you have to go around telling people a medical report about how its done and also the eye gouging is no going to make you blind stop being a drama queen and get over it. its football he wants win another championship so he did what he had to

i now believe you are in 6th grade which means you dont know crap about life.

you dont do a criminal act and then use the lame **** excuse "my emotiions got the best of me".

he is an athlete. he is supposed to have control. the BEST athletes do. idiots like ryan leaf and lawrence phillips dont have control. feel free to google their names and see where they are now.

This is a specific thing that would be EASY to officiate. When you see a guy gouge someones eyes you toss em. You have video evidence, so there is no debate. You toss em.

Wanting to win a championship is a lame **** excuse to BLIND someone.

What's next? the linebackers just pick up a QB and so a piledriver move and break his neck? Its only a 15 yd penalty...small price to pay for getting rid of Tebow!

ok calm down pile driver really now your getting a little out of hand and dramatic you don't need to have a stroke its something that happens you don't no if he had a mental flash back something that happened in his life or maybe that player didn't before and he just didn't get caught

List all of the football players who have been blinded by eye gouging on the field. I'll wait. The "XYZ could happen" argument is as ridiculous as the knee jerk reaction presuming YOU have the solution on top of it. You create a problem that doesn't exist then propose to solve said non-existent problem. That's not a TD...it's a bad blog.

What Spikes did was stupid and Meyer trying to downplay it was ignorant. However, it was a heat of the moment act and doesn't deserve more than a 1 game suspension. Most of the cheap shots are heat of the moment which needs to be considered when meting punishment. If a player shows a tendency for these types of things then you step up the suspension by 3 games for each subsequent transgression.

The next thing you are going to want to do is suspend refs for hitting players in the eye with the flags (Orlando Brown 1999). This is a slippery slope. I dont agree with the suspension (if you could call it that) that Spikes recieved.

I can't vote left because I dont agree with a full 12 month suspension, but I WON'T vote right because he hasn't yet graduated from 6th grade english.

Seriously people, lets learn some grammar before we start making statements in public...tards!

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?

My fault:

Yeah, that is a player trying to end a career of another player and that stuff can't be tolerated. What's worse, is that the guy who threw the cheap shot was allowed to stay in the game.

So, we should wait for a career to be ended before doing something about a problem that already exists. That almost makes sense.

Voting left.....weak argument from right....the hair on a player is considered part of the uniform....its a rule...eye gouging on the other hand is just morally wrong.

Triumph has a good point but he's such a pathetic whiner that it makes it hard to vote for him. He's lucky that his opponent is a babbling idiot.
