This site should eliminate ties.

Look at my record: 3-31-0. THat means I won 3, lost 31 and TIED 0.

Ties are like kissing your sister, which is why I avoid them at all times. I think this site would be made better by having a winner and a loser only, no ties. It would make for better and more competitive TDs.

I Respectfully disagree.
Look at My record - 11-4-4
Some ties are pretty much like victories!
Many people can select easy wins.
Others like challenges. And to tie on one TD where you know you are the minority is just like a victory.

Heck, what exactly do you propose to do when the votes are equal?
And why exactly doing away with ties would make it more competitive?
I mean, is it because there are ties now that i will make a lesser argument?
like: "It's ok, I can tie this thing"

I don't think that having a tie or not will affect how people debate things.

And a tie just happens when both sides have good arguments, so I would think it is doing it's job.

Now, I would even agree with an extra argument when the score is tied. but if it end on a tie again, give the dues to both people, because they earned their ties :)

Heck, I have ties that I am pretty damn proud to have.
Like against great people, or funny ones, or even a tie where we had hundreds of comments and NOT ONE VOTE! Even our own vote for ourselves! It was such a good TD, that I pretty much hold it dearer than many W's I had.

Anyway, good luck to you :)

Look, ties happen to soccer, to you want this site to become like soccer?

Ties are plain unAmerican, which makes this site unAmerican. This site is about throwing down the winner onto the #1 pedistal, and throwing down the loser into feeling of shame and inadequecy, with ties in the system its becomes socialist where points are equally shared between two posters which doesnt allow for any satisfaction for either because neither can feel superior to the other. WHat's the point of life if you cant get more than the next guy, if you are the same and get a tie?

Soccer?
Well, first of all, I love soccer, so i wouldn't mind :)

But you say it's UNAMERICAN not to have a winner?
Let me see...
I have a son, he plays soccer. You know they MAKE A POINT there are no winners just because there can't be a loser?

Americans are the kings of pampering people just so they don't feel like losers!
How can you say this?

If anything, in order to be perfectly american, every TD should end in a tie just so they don't hurt anyone's feelings!!!

No, my friend. Winning and losing are part of life. But so is a tie.

But if you are that concerned about not having ties, I would vote for you to go through all the completed TD's and voting where there's a tie.
You would be happy, and most people wouldn't even know that there would be no more ties because the Vigilante against Ties would be checking all TD's that are about to end and making sure there wouldn't be a tie!!!

But of course, there might be a super-vilain somewhere just waiting for the last minute of a close TD, just counting the seconds to hit that vote button and make it a tie!!!
It is the super vilain Tie-man!!!

You have to save us from it!!!!

First: Your son plays soccer? Did you know that soccer is unAmerican and boring because it ends in 0-0 ties always? Look I'm not going to say anything about allowing your son to play soccer, I just think its bad parenting and that once he gets strong enough you should put him in a real sport like baseball and football, otherwise he might turn into a feminine european.

Second: Ties are unAmerican. Life is about being a winner. THis is what we should be teaching our kids its how our country became the dominant hegemon of the planet, because of the endless pursuit of winnerdom. I think that in the event of a tie on a TD there should be a sudden death that would determine the winner.

You must be a not-a-fan-of-soccer-but-I-never-watched-a-game-and-just-repeat-what-I-heard kind of guy.

The average of soccer games have about 3 goals per game. It's not hard to check.

Second, Baseball has no contact with other players. How exactly it is more manly? Must be that tight pants they use....

If anything, my son will train MMA & JKD like his daddy :)

Now, about the ties, it is so very american to cater to the underdog, that I feel I should vote for you just so you don't lose by 8x0 as it is now.

See, americans are quite the opposite of what you claim they are. They are the ones who takes the pain from all over the world and tries to help them.
This is the nature of americans. They cater to everyone who are down on their luck and try to make them feel like a person.

Americans abhor the thought of losers so much, that they would rather see every TD end in a tie just so there are no losers.

This site might be about sports, and sports are about Victory and losses. but TD is an exchange of an idea, not a fight to the death.
Ties are part of it.

If you have an argument that can swing as many voters as the person on the other side, it must be a tie.

Staring contest to determine the winner

November 9, 2009  11:19 AM ET

I would vote that worthless throw downs like this one should be ended and both get a lost point!

How about a new throw down to determine the winner of the older one!

Brilliant! But instead of a Tie, call it a Draw- Then everyone will be confused.
