SURE CLEVELAND IS ALWAYS THE POPULAR PICK AS THE WORST SPORTS CITY BUT....
SAN DIEGO COMBINED CHAMPIONSHIPS OF ANY KIND = 0
CHARGERS SUK
PADRES SUK
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SAN DIEGO CLIPPERS ? THEY SUKED AND ARE DOING A WHOLE LOTTA SUKIN IN LA NOW
NO NHL FRANCHISE
NO NOTHIN

San Diego doesn't have an NHL franchise, you say? Well, that's a far cry from the Cleveland...um...well...oh wait, they don't have one. Columbus does. In fact, you actually have to drive further to get from Cleveland to the nearest NHL city (Columbus, 142.75 miles) than you do from San Diego (Los Angeles, 121.15 miles).

Chargers? Well...5-3 is not generally the record of a team that sucks. 1-7...well, yeah.

However, Drew Carey was right...Cleveland does indeed rock. So, I'm not going to say that's the worst sports town either. They still have loyal fans and LeBron James

Wamsutter, Wyoming is. They don't even have a pro sports team.

IM NOT ASKIN FOR DIRECTIONS. JUST GIVE A DAMN COUNTER ARGUMENT AND PICK A SIDE THATS HOW A TD IS DONE.

AND THE CHARGERS HAVE HAD CHANCES TO GET A DAMN RING BUT COULDNT FINISH THE JOB.

THE PADRES LAST 15 MINUTES OF FAME WERE IN THE WORLD SERIES WHERE THEY GOT SWEPT BY THE YANKS. THATS TOTAL INEPTITUDE

U TURN.

Um...in case you hadn't noticed, I already have picked a side, which is that San Diego is not the worst sports city. My argument for Wamsutter, WY being the worst sports town apparently fell on deaf ears, so I'll play along and try to show why San Diego is a great sports town, or at least a step above Cleveland.

Both cities have an MLB and an NFL Team, so let's look at this year's records for each.
NFL: Chargers 5-3, Browns 1-7
MLB: Padres 75-87, Indians 65-97

How about fight songs? In searching, I was only able to fight odd references here and there to a sort, maybe 4 line fight song for the Browns. This is nothing compared to the "San Diego Super Chargers" song that every Chargers fan knows by heart.

Let's look at fan attendance. Last year, the Cleveland Indians had an average of 22,357 fans at each game. By comparison, the San Diego Padres had an average of 23,735 fans each game.

Finally, how about some known names? San Diego has given us such names as Tony Gwynn, Dan Fouts, and the original Kellen Winslow. With the notable exceptions of Jim Brown and LeBron James, what names do people generally know well from Cleveland?

WHICH AT LEAST 30% WERE DODGERS FANS

Next Failed Point:How about fight songs? In searching, I was only able to fight odd references here and there to a sort, maybe 4 line fight song for the Browns. This is nothing compared to the "San Diego Super Chargers" song that every Chargers fan knows by heart.

REALLY ? U HAD GO THAT LOW AS TO SEARCH FOR FIGHT SONGS COME ON!!

NOW TIME TO GET MY WIN

CLEVELAND BROWNS LAST CHAMPIONSHIP: PRE-SUPERBOWL NFL CHAMPIONSHIP 1964
CHARGERS: the effin AFL 1963 PSHHH

INDIANS LAST CHAMPIONSHIP: WS 1948
PADRES: UMMMMMMMMM...WAITIN....WAITIN AND WAITIN

Sure, the Indians won a championship in 1948 and even made it back to the World Series in 1954, but they also followed that up with a 41-year playoff drought!! Let me rewrite that for emphasis. Forty-one year playoff drought! The Padres on the other hand have at at their worst only had a 15-year playoff drought, from their inception in 1969 to 1984.

CLEVELAND BROWNS LAST CHAMPIONSHIP: PRE-SUPERBOWL NFL CHAMPIONSHIP 1964
CHARGERS: the effin AFL 1963 PSHHH

One year? Really? Fine, I'll play the numbers game with you. One may be the loneliest number, but I'll give you seven, as in it has been 7 years since the Browns have even made the playoffs. How about 15, which is how long it has been since the Browns won a playoff game (though you can shorten it to 12 if you like, given the 3 years the Browns were out of the league)?

Meanwhile, the Chargers have been to the playoffs and won their division 3 years in a row, and 4 of the last 5. They have won three of their playoff games over the last two years, and were in the AFC Championship Game in 2007.

Short version: San Diego is by no means the nation's worst sports city, and is at least comparable to Cleveland.

NOT TO MENTION THEY HAVE THE WORST FANS...THEY HAVE NEVER SOLD OUT A CHARGER PLAYOFF GAME AND THE DODGER FANS DROWN OUT THE PADRES FANS AT PETCO PARK.

Charger fans are also some of the worst informed fans in the world. I mean obviously there are some fans out there who know what's going on in football and even the rules of the game, but everytime I go to a Charger-Bronco game in Qualcomm I always hear the dumbest comments from Charger fans. It reminds me of Paris Hilton watching a football game...

Not having a sports team is better than having a sports team that sucks and Cleveland has 3 major teams that have a huge history of ineptitude.

Cavs blo

ask LeBron in July

November 9, 2009  12:45 PM ET

Team wise or fan wise?

The Indians and Browns are both horrendous.... although unlike our resident idiot from comment 8, the Cavs are a very good team. Remember that whole 66 win season thing?

Fan wise, Cleveland has great fans. They have endured more losing/ heartbreak than any other city in sports, no contest.

November 9, 2009  01:10 PM ET

Gah...forgot I'd already referenced the browns record. My bad.

November 9, 2009  01:33 PM ET

Hey, San Diego's got the nice climate, but not great in pro sports.
Maybe the Chargers can do it soon.

Be proud though....close is better than nothing.

Ever heard of the other Detroit teams apart from the pussycats?

November 9, 2009  01:35 PM ET

The state of Ohio sports is overrated as a whole.

November 9, 2009  01:36 PM ET

Classic. Our entire economy is built on Lebron James!

But hey, at least we aren't Detroit.

November 9, 2009  01:37 PM ET

chargers have had chances for championships but blew it.

browns have had chances to be above .500 and blew it.
