Soccer has the smallest ratings of any sport and is so irrelevant most Americans couldn't name you one soccer player or team.

Sure you don't mean 98.5 %?

World Cup is on the near horizon, and many people in the land of Uncle Sam might just have their heads turned......NO?

nobody watches soccer except once every 4 years during the world cup, thats only because its the only time America isn't #1 in something.

America is #1 in every other sport because we're so awesome, other countries suck compared to our BIG manly NFL, MLB and NBA athletes

Are you telling us that Americans will ignore all sports in which they are not clear-cut favorites? A touch insulting I'd have thought. Or are you saying that USA sports fans only watch the World Cup because they figure they have little chance of success?
I'm a tad confused.

By the way bconn, soccer is not ballet.players do get nasty injuries while playing.

There are other "MANLY" games too, such as rugby and hockey, and baseball is not the roughest sport on earth.......is it?

And boxing......

Give soccer a break man, if it is played well it is compelling!

Soccer is not compelling, its really boring and 99% of the men out there agree, there is no soccer that can sell big stadiums or become watched on TV because its so boring.

And soccer is really pansy and for sissies, they fall over and cry like europeans.

Jeez bconn, you've convinced me.......soccer is trash! Never really liked it anyways and surely will not pay any attention to it ever again.

Just one question? Why is soccer so popular? EVER FIGURED IT OUT?

Because all the filthy foreigners love it, but it ain't for ma and apple pie....is it?

Are you familiar with a certain Mr McCarthy?

If you like a different sport you are UN-AMERICAN..........RIGHT?

Think of something else for God's sake fella! It's getting trite.

good luck finding someone to take this one seriously.

Id rather watch the Seagulls play all day then watch a boring soccer match.

Heck Id even watch NASCAR before Id watch soccer...and thats closer to ripping my eyes out then anything.

There are worse sports tho I guess...

Competitive basket-weaving.

I don't understand the Soccer hate... (well I do in Bconns case, I saw the video on you tube... Sorry Bconn that must have been rough for you)

It is not at all boring. I am not a huge fan but I do get into the world cup a little bit and other international soccer events.

Bconn always says it is boring because it is low scoring... that makes no sense.

If each goal was worth 7 points like a TD(with extra point) is in football then it would be common for soccer games to end 21 - 14 which is a fairly common football score.

I guess I'm a 1%er. I don't watch it religiously or anything, but I watch it when it is on and when the world cup in on.

You think 3-2 in soccer is COMMON?

Dream on.

1-0 is common. 1-1 is common.

The average team in the last World Cup scored 1.1 goals per game.

Bitter much? There isn't a sport where the entire outcome of a game can come from nothing. Baseball? Yawn, great for being in a bar. You've got a minute in between pitches. Football? not much better. Basketball? A hip-hop concert with 400 lead changes....just watch the last five minutes. Hockey? Nice pace, but a series of broken plays results in a goal. Rarely is there any plan besides "pressure". Soccer is beautiful to watch, and a goal can come from anywhere. A beautiful play, a set piece, long ball, several short passes...and all can be stopped by some acrobatic keeper.

I vote against this fool who is bashing hockey and football.

I'm sorry to say that I can name a few MLS teams....but I would rather not watch

November 9, 2009  03:39 PM ET

100% of Americans over the age of 50 should have regular colonoscopies.

November 9, 2009  03:53 PM ET

Being a fan of one sport and not another, does not constitute less of a man, american, etc... It just shows a preference for something other than what you want. I agree with Clouts. Baseball is TOO DANG SSSLLLLOOOOWWWWW for it to have any real excitement. Football is a drawn out Sumo/Pushing match with FAT guys that sweat too much. Basketball is ok, until you get to the last few minutes of a close game, then it takes an hour to play 2 minutes with all the fouls and time-outs. But I watch them all, including MLS, because I am a REAL SPORTS FAN!

I watch for the end where the dumbazz fans knock down the fences and rush the field fighting.
Now that should be a sport.

99.9% of American men would not want take it from behind from Brian Urlacher. Left is more than likely in the .1%

I like how you bash football when your avatar is one of the biggest moments in football history.
While everysport has it's problem. Atleast things in the other sports happen at high speed. I like soccer but the most disappointing thing to happen in sports is when a great player will juke and deke the defense out of there shorts, and then kick the ball past a grey haired goalie and it bounces like 3 times on the way.

bacon isn't it about time for your next ban from FN?

November 9, 2009  04:34 PM ET

If by "soccer" you mean, "watching Mia Hamm ride an exercise bike", then count me in for watching soccer.

November 9, 2009  04:49 PM ET

There is a false perception of interest in this country b/c every family with small children are now convinced this lame game is enjoyed by all. Fact is ANYONE can play at that level--and they all do. It is basically "magnet ball" in that the ball attracts all the kids like a magnet. Most fail miserably but since so many play the Major league thinks that will transpire into real adult interest. Like watching paint dry it is.....ugh

Oh and I had the colonoscopy, the drink was horrid, the drugs were fine and who ever had to look up my backside...well that's a job they can keep.

I have never sat through an adult Soccer Match.
