you 1st..

This is an easy one.

Pat Tillman getting killed by friendly fire while defending our country.

Dale Earnhardt is easily number 2 as well.

those are good picks..

i'll say...

Len and Jay Bias..

both died premature..

Len brought more of a knowledge on how powerful cocaine was and Jay with guns.

So the death of a coke head and his brother(who doesn't have a page on Wikipedia) who was shot and not in any professional league is more tragic than a man who was a great football player that joined the army and died while defending his country and a sport's most beloved figure who died blocking for his son and his newly aquired driver for his team?

You took two, so I am going with two.

I don't consider being a drug user and overdosing a tragedy.

He might have been another great pro sports player that abuses drugs, or he could have been a bust.

Tillman was great player and a great man.

Dale was the biggest name in his sport, his son still lives off of his name.

Dale had been through so many violent crashes and walked away, but died in what seemed like a routine crash.

After Dale's death another tragedy took place as his sport took all of the excitement out of it and made NASCAR very hard to watch.

Len wasn't a coke head bro..

How you gonna rip a man like that.. He experimented at the university of Maryland and had siezures which led to his death.

YOu obviously don't know much about Bias.. Len changed the way people looked at cocaine... He was bigger than life and Michael fkn Jordan was the 1st person to send his mom fkn flowers..

Pat Tillman served a GREAT justice but HE SIGNED Up for the ARMY.. When you talk to recruits they put that out there.. "CHANCE OF DEATH" .. WARFARE..

Tillman is HEROIC but Len's experience was more of a TRAGEDY..

Since Outlaw likes to BASH people.. especially ones that are deceased.. HE should not get ANY fkn votes..

Bias was chosen by the Boston Celtics after they won the title ... 2nd overall !

Bias's potential was HUGE.. I mean HUGE..

Outlaw, way to put two answers...

is it Dale or Tillman?

I think your 1st pick of Tillman is not really credible for this td... Dale on the other hand.. YES

Bias... R.I.P

Dude could play some fkn basketball..

It's unfortunate and TRAGIC that he partied and socialized w/ friends in the wrong way..

I'm winning by 20 votes, so this is gonna be short.

You took a Coke head and his brother...

I took a man that died for his country and a man that was the most beloved man in his sport.

I have a much better choice than either of Outlaws, but I will wait to post until Peach posts.

By better I mean more likely to win, there are no "better" tragedies.

Solid picks by Outlaw. was expecting this to go in a completely different direction though as I didn't think anyone would take word "tragedy" so literally.

Both sides missed it?

When the plane carrying the Marshall football program was struck by lightning and crashed, killing everyone on the plane.

there's that

First on that came to mind.

I don't consider Tillman's death a sports tragedy

it is a tragedy, but he was in a war zone after all (by his choice)...to me that puts it just below accidents that took out whole teams etc.

That was my first thought.

I also thought of the Olympic massacre in 1972

that one too

that might be ahead of the Marshall accident...it's close

Either way, I would say that both are better than either sides picks in this TD.

Totally agreed.

If the basis of the argument includes things outside of the actual sporting event at hand, then there is a huge group of athletes that have passed on through acts of war, terrorism, traffic accidents, shootings, etc.... that have equal weight and just as tragic to their loved ones as the others.

November 9, 2009  04:09 PM ET

Tillman's death was more of a sacrifice than a tragedy (by deciding to stay in the army, he knew his death could be the result of that choice)

Marshall, 72 Olympics, Clements, OK State basketball etc, those are actual tragedies

then why'd you argue for the Biases instead?

Dude, I think Dale is a bigger tragedy then Tillman... I think the Bias bros are a BIGGER tragedy.. Len had sooo much potential.. didn't even score a point in the nba

agree with this...saying this is easy, and selecting Tillman seems a bit off base to me...this is relegated to sports tragedies, and the Tillman death was not really sports related...
