The Chicago Bulls are a much better team then last year.

Luol Deng is back.

2008-2009 Stats:
82 Games Played
36.6 Minutes per Game
3.5 RPG
3.4 APG
20.7 PPG

Who stats are those? Who lead the Bulls in scoring last season? Who was basically 3rd in assists? 2nd in minutes per game? That would be Ben Gordon. Where is Ben Gordon now? On the Detroit Pistons.

The Bulls didn't make really any move to replace that presence. They only really brought in Jannero Pargo and he will be coming off the bench.

Pargo will not be making up for the 20 points per game that Gordon left behind.

And now, the Bulls have even worse knews that Tyrus Thomas will miss 6-8 weeks. Tyrus was good for 10 points per game last year and 6 rebounds and was predicted by experts to have a break out season this year and become a star.

On top of all this, you can't jump to the conclusion that this team is better after 6 games. No one on the team is scoring 20 points per and the highest is only 16.7 from Rose. Only 4 players are average double digits when 9 did last season.

The Bulls are only averaging 88.5 points (28th in the NBA) as a team and they averaged 102.2 last year.

According to basketball reference.com, they are 26th in the NBA in offense.

In regard to, "The Bulls are only averaging 88.5 points (28th in the NBA) as a team and they averaged 102.2 last year:"
It's the beginning of the year, and the Bulls didn't have that easy of a beginning:
Spurs
Celtics
Heat
Bucks (I know the Bucks aren't that hard)
Cavs
Bobcats (I know the Bobcats aren't that hard, either)

Either way, Joakim Noah scored 6.7 ppg last year and he's up to 11.3 now (almost double).
And he just became the third player since 2001 to have at least 20 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and shoot 80 percent from the field in a victory. The other two players were Shaquille O'Neal (March, 2004) and Kevin Garnett (March, 2001).
He also is leading the team in rebounds and blocks now. Last year he had 6.6 rpg and he has 11 now. Last year he had 1.1 bpg and he has 2.3 now.

Not the best argument, but I don't have much time now. :D oh well

So we know of atleast two votes for you that are dupe accounts (see comments 12-15), but I will still argue.

You made a point for me. You said its only 6 games in and you can't base it off of that. I believe I said that in my argument. Why make this TD now then? Thats your own fault.

"And he just became the third player since 2001 to have at least 20 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and shoot 80 percent from the field in a victory."

And I just became the first person since 1994 to argue a throwdown, while eating nachos and cheese, while watching Monday Night Football, on the 9th of November! CROWN ME.

Your entire argument is based around Joakim Noah. I have news for you, he won't be winning the Bulls shiiiit anytime soon.

You have still shown me no replacedment for Ben Gordon's 20 points per game. It is obvious the Bulls are lacking it since they are scoring 88 points per game. That is 14 points lower than last year! Any relation to the departure of Gordon? I think so.

First of all, I'm knew to this, so what's a dupe account?

Second, Gordon was selfish with the basketball and didn't pass it nearly as much as he should.

Ben Gordon can shoot threes... So what? that is really all he can do. I found this on a website:

That's great. Can he do anything else? He's not a great ball handler, and he is NOT as fast as a guard should be. On a good day, Gordon is amazing, I know. But when he's off his game, he is USELESS.
If the Bulls are really going to succeed, they need to be a TEAM team not a GORDON team. If everybody gets a little better (which will occur) then the loss of Gordon will be replaced.

Salmons will replace Gordon, and he is not as great at hitting 3s, but he tries WAY harder than Gordon did, and it shows. And Deng shoots well and will pick up some slack that John Salmons leaves behind.

Also remember that DelNegro has a year under his belt with the Bulls now, so his coaching probably will improve.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Derrick Rose has been working with MJ's old shooting coach to improve his jumper. Maybe a light at the end of the tunnel?

Anyway, your turn.

Shut up, cheater. Don't play the innocent act.

Ben Gordon doesn't dish? Well he was 3rd on the team last year. Well, 2nd you could say as Hinrich only played 51 games and had .5 more per game. If you put that stat on the team this year, he is still 3rd behind Rose and Hinrich.

Right now in Detroit, Gordon is scoring 24 points per game, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and is playing 38.6 minutes. If he was scoring 24 points per game on this Bulls team, I will tell you one thing, they wouldn't be only scoring 88 as a team and he would be leading the team by 8 over Derrick Rose.

So how can you replace that? The Bulls could have tried... TRIED. He may not have made a Ben Gordon-like difference, but AI was available. He could have done SOMETHING. Instead, the Bulls did NOTHING to get better. They let their highest scorer leave... the only player that had scoring over 20 points per game.

And Ben Gordon is gone.

November 9, 2009  05:26 PM ET

wow, what an argument. I can't wait to vote right

November 9, 2009  05:30 PM ET

I know its a pretty retarded throwdown...I was bored and felt like making one...
obviously the Bulls are better than last year
I also figured its an easy win...
lol
;D

November 9, 2009  05:31 PM ET

However, I'd like to see someone other than me win this TD...its pretty much impossible

November 9, 2009  05:31 PM ET

ooh well

:)

November 9, 2009  05:31 PM ET

i'll start a real throwdown now
one that's actually debatable

QUOTE(#6):

Why do you assume you are right?

November 9, 2009  05:46 PM ET

Of course I assume that I'm right because I started a throwdown that I think I will win...
You assume you are right because you posted a counter argument to mine
So I can ask you the same question...

November 9, 2009  06:07 PM ET

btw, gu3: the ray rice effect:
I know what you mean, we can't decide this early in the season...However, I meant "based on what we have seen so far."
I should have been more clear

November 9, 2009  06:19 PM ET

Two guys in Chicago radio (Bores and Bernstein) said it best ... "Chicago is just a stupid basketball town"...

meaning every year the city is full of Bulls homers saying how GREAT the bulls are ... or are gonna be "based on what they have seen so far".

And this is a team that has made it out of the first round of the playoffs what? ... ONCE? ... since MJ retired for good?

And it's not like I don't know from personal experience. I live in the SW burbs of Chicago and it's hysterical how in-love people in the city are with their mediocre sports teams like the Bulls and the Bears, the Cubs who get swept when they make it into the playoffs at all, etc.

But you'd think all Chicago teams win championships every freakin' year the way these homers incessantly gush about them.

So yeah ... you know which way I'm voting!

November 9, 2009  06:24 PM ET

Ben Gordon is replaceable. His ball time will be given to someone else, if not passed around between Rose, Hinrich or Deng. His points will be made up and his foolish decision making will NOT be missed.

TD: Vote ------>

November 9, 2009  06:26 PM ET

I agree with Steveo16220...
Ben Gordon is totally replaceable with Deng and Fish Man the scorers they are.
I just have to wonder if the way the Bulls are doing now is just an early sprint, or a good run for the money...IDK...

TD: Vote <-----------

November 9, 2009  06:36 PM ET

I think I'm gonna have to vote left on this one...the whole "Ben Gordon's gone" argument doesn't really work for me. He's just one player, and I think once John Salmons definitively breaks his slump (ESPN thinks he official broke it, but I disagree...he needs a few good scoring nights in a row for a definite slump break)...once Salmons is back, we've got another scorer who did pretty close to Ben in points per game last season. And Deng is getting almost 17 points per game (and we know he can do way better once he warms up into the season)...

Sooo... I'm voting left...

No Contest...
I can't believe the voting is so close.
It's a silly debate, of course the Bulls are better than last year. That doesn't mean they'll get past the first round of the playoffs, but who cares?
BG was a good scorer and nothing more. OK, maybe he was good at assists, too, but not that good. What he brought to the table for the Bulls was POINTS PER GAME, which was something Chicago really needed then.
But he hurt the team, too, due to his bad on-court decisions.

True, Ty Thomas is out right now, but I know I'd rather Deng then Thomas any day.
And like ol' lefty said, Joakim Noah seems to be starting a break out season. He probably won't become a star, but he DEFINITELY will be a very valuable asset to the team.

Derrick Rose is on his second season. With a year of NBA under his belt, who knows what he's capable of this year? He met a playoff record last year! Maybe he'll break some more this season.

Anyway, I bet you guys can guess which way I'm voting. (Hint: it rhymes with fleft)

GU3, what do you think about our newly acquired members of Fannation, that have posted comments above me?

November 9, 2009  09:50 PM ET

Its a decent premise though. Gordon was 1 dimensional and not a team player. I could easily vote left if his arguments are sound. Will be waiting
