The NHL has seemed to take a firm stance on the state of fighting in the NHL. It's bad! I can only think of one thing to say to the nhl. Who cares!!!!! Fighting is apart of hockey just like tackling is a part of football. I have played hockey for years and have been the proud member of a couple of scrapps which were all in the heat of battle and every time it was for a purpose and not out of hate or anger. Most players that fight do it for momentum and thats a fact. 3-0 in the second it's a fighters time to shine because in hockey like many other sports it's momentum and the ability to out play the other opponent that wins games and fighting is and has been a full proof way to change the momentum of games and rally the troops to victory because as the broad street bullies would say THEY CANT CALL EVERYTHING.

I don't even know what your argument is. Your topic sentence is crap. Your first argument is all over the map. Let me explain the problems with fighting in the NHL:
A. Some guys wear helmets, others take them off before the fight. This is problematic for 2 reasons:
... 1. the guys who dont take off their helmets cause other chuckers to break their hands/fingers on the helmets
....2. the guys who take their helmets off are fair fighters, but often land on their brains and suffer head injurires.
B. the instigator rule is a joke. I watch a hockey game or the highlights every nite. I dont know who gets what penalty any more. players are allowed to run guys, drop guys after a clean hit, sucker punch guys, etc... and i dont know what matters, when. Clean up the rules.
C. Most importantly (counter to ur claim), the NHL has NOT taken a firm stance to fighting. They have been arguing the rules of this for years, and its still going on. What game do u watch?
D. They can't call everything? I don't know what this has to do with fighting. If you fight, u earn 5 minutes. Simple call.

well I am sorry I dont draw it up clearly but really what I am trying to argue is that fighting is somthing that is apart of hockey and shouldn't be the crime that they make it out to be. I do agree that the NHL has yet to make serios changes against it, but it seems every year we hear about them complaining about it. I almost forgot that hockey is a contact sport. The only good argument against it is the injury aspect to it. Maybe I haven't payed close enough attention to the injury reports in hockey but I havent heard very many players go on the shelf for injuries they got in fighting. Hockey players are known to be athletes that play with bruises, scares, and missing teeth. It's all part of playing the sport of hockey. I dont know what you know about the Flyers or thier past but that is where I got the they cant call everything is a phase coined by the flyers. They used the aggresive chippy style of hockey that worked. Teams where intimiidated and it worked. They are the living proof that fighting is affective. The NHL pushing the speed game and getting rid of all the clutching and grabbing to me was them getting away from fighting.

Who is "them" ?? You have said "they make fighting a crime" and "they complain about fighting."
Who are you talking about? The media? The NHLPA? Mothers Against Drunk Driving?
The only people I hear talking about the violence in hockey, are people who don't watch it. You get the people who see the 1 guy hitting his head on the ice after a fight on the news/sports highlights and they get up in arms over it for a few days. Then it goes away for a few months until it happens again.
They don't watch the sport to know that most fights fall under 2 categories:
1. Retribution for something done to their skilled players. The players should police themselves. since there is a lack of respect nowadays. If you take a run at a guy or give a cheap shot, you SHOULD get a beating.
2. Motivation to get some momentum going for your team. Players respond to the effort of a fight, with effort on the ice.
The NHL has not outlawed hockey. There are no rules that prevent fighting (they just want to stop the staged stuff at the faceoff circle).

Hmmmm.....they I am sorry to be perfetcly clear to you GM's, Gary bettman, and all those who took part in the rule changes after the strike are also subject to this matter. The GM meetings every year are in some way about the need to get fighting out of hockey or somthing directly related like open ice hits. It seems like they just want to turn hockey into advanced ice skating with sticks. A lot of the rule changes made to "free up offensive play" to me where direct changes made against players that benifited from playing the fighters style of hockey. The Bob Proberts of hockey have no room in the NHL any more because The NHL has ruled them out of the picture. To be more specific for you about those rule changes I am talkin about them increasing the amount of Holding calls and Hooking calls, taking out the 2 line pass rule, and other small rule changes that really just take the tough guys out of the picture. Yes the NHL hasn't came out and said fighting is not ok but they have done enough to say that thier underlined intention for the sport today is to get away from it.
Maybe you can be clear with me are you agreeing with me now that fighting is good???
Serial Dex said 11/11, 12:20 AM
I wouldn't say fighting is good, but it is a necessary part of the game that many enjoy. It isn't that I am agreeing with you "now" it is that I didn't even know what you were talking about in the first argument. I could make out the words "hockey" and "fighting" and pretty much went with it.
However, I would take issue with your "The Bob Probert's in the game have no place now."
Not really true. I don't see Parros or Laraque scoring 20 goals a year in the NHL or playing on a 2nd line any time soon. Goons are still valuable in the game.
However, I wish they weren't. It brings down the game. I like my "fighters" to be guys like Iginla or Lucic. People with hockey skill and the guts to stick up for their teammates and themselves.
Watching guys who dance around the ice and cry about everything isn't very exciting. That is figure skating to me. Guys that lumber around looking to whack guys over the head with their sticks isn't hockey. It is MMA on ice.

So what are you arguing fighting is good? How about getting rid of the instigator rule.

I'd be surprised if not one of your fights wasn't out of anger.

The fighting issue is way over-blown. 1 person died out of thousands and thousands of fights. Its the bleeding hearts that worry too much. The bleeding hearts dont like it? Dont watch it then!
