I'm saying the NBA is most affected by what's going on now. It's really bad if a ref would bet on a game he is officiating, and it is worse when they blow calls for the money. The takes wins from teams that deserves them and throws many games. I didn't pick the MLB because this Bonds thing has been going on for a good 3 or 4 years now, and NFL because it isn't as inside the sport as Donaghy is.

The NBA is definitely affected most by the betting scandal. There's a simple explanation why:
MLB - Bonds, although many suspect he's taken steroids, has not been charged guilty, therefore I don't think you can really say that the MLB is in major trouble. If he is charged guilty eventually, then the MLB has a little bit more to worry about, but I still think this ranks lowest out of the three. They've had to deal with players taking steroids before - Palmeiro, Guillermo Mota, Jason Grimsley, etc. - and the sport hasn't been "tarnished" yet.
NFL - They are taking the right approach. I honestly don't think there's much more they can do right now. They've told Vick not to report to training camp, and with his court date set for Nov 29th, he will most likely miss AT LEAST those 11 games. I don't see them doing much more until his fate is determined in court. They've definitely taken the right approach.
NBA - Betting on games, and perhaps shaving points is definitely a lot bigger than any other scandals. There was so much about Pete Rose and gambling in the MLB and look how much attention that got. If you are betting on ones you're officiating, you are bound to make bad calls, etc.

My argument is that the NBA is affected most. You are supporting my argument. I don't know how to argue your point now because your point is my point. There's nothing I can say, except the NBA has been affected most.
CodyShep233 said 07/29, 07:50 PM
I'm not able to really make any further arguments. As stated below, I understood your opening argument wrong.
Cheezhead said 07/30, 10:52 AM
Ok, well then I have to say something and then you either say something or forfeit. I made another argument about this because I really wanted to argue about this, I don't know if you can still vote.

Report Offensive CommentIt doesn't matter if you backed up what you said because that means you backed up what I said. Throwdowns is when you disagree with the other fan's statement. How can the fans vote on two guys saying the same thing?

Report Offensive CommentMLB is clearly affected more. One ref and a few isolated incidents which probably didn't change the course of a single game outcome, let alone an entire season. The steroids issue (forget just bonds and one record) completely dominates baseball. The players union's power is out of control and records, team performances, and HOF voting are dramatically altered. If basketball is most affect it's only because most people are stupid and prone to hysteria.

Report Offensive CommentAbsolutely, no doubt the NBA scandal is by far the worse. A betting scandal involving those who have a portion of control over the result of a game is far more damaging than anything else this scandal-ridden summer. Vick's situation -if completely true- is appalling. Barry Bonds' alleged steroid use and likely breaking of Aaron's HR record is a slap in the face to MLB. But neither of those things have the potential to collapse a sports league like Donaghy's scenario does. I'm not sure who to vote for here because you guys seem to have similar arguments. I would be interested in seeing if there is anyone who actually thinks differently on this. I see upstatebosoxbabe mentions the Tour DeFrance, but that is not a widely followed league in the same sense of the NFL, MLB, or NBA, so I don't know.

Report Offensive CommentCody your logic is horrible. Donaghy hasn't been proven guilty of anything yet either, just like Bonds.
TheDeity | 07/30/07, 11:55 AM
Report Offensive CommentWhy are we relegating baseball's problems to Bonds/the home run record? Isn't it a bigger problem that steroids are still rampant in the sport and that testing is lax at best? I'm not thinking just Bonds, but more the entire state of the sport. The NBA is already on the road to recovery (or will be once the problem is definitively isolated) but baseball is in the middle of its crisis.
