You have 26 people on your team. 13 and 13. I went for team chemistry a little bit, and players who would be OK with being on the bench. In my bullpen, I put two long relievers/spot starters. I made a team that could win now, but could also win in the future.
Starting Nine:
C: Russell Martin
1B: Mark Teixeira
2B: Chase Utley
3B: Alex Rodriguez
SS: Jose Reyes
LF: Matt Holliday
CF: Aaron Rowand
RF: Magglio Ordonez
DH: Gary Sheffield
Bench:
Joe Mauer
Scott Spiezio
Nick Markakis
Eric Byrnes
Rotation
Jake Peavy
Cole Hamels
Erik Bedard
Dan Haren
Jeremy Guthrie
Bullpen
LRP: Kason Gabbard
LRP: Brian Burres
MRP/SU: Pat Neshek
MRP/SU: Scot Shields
SU: Al Reyes
SU: Hideki Okajima
CL: JJ Putz

The reason I wouldn't choose Martin over Martinez is because he still is a young player, and I'm not sure if I would rely on him to be the catcher of my future. He is young, and putting up great numbers, but Martinez is still fairly young and he's put up solid numbers year-after-year. His first full year of catching was in 2004 when he was an All-Star with 23 home-runs and 108 RBI's and won the Silver Slugger award. This year he was an All-Star, too. He has been an MVP candidate two times. In his full seasons, his OBP is always better than .350.
Teixeira is also good, but if you look at Pujols' short carrer- All-Star, Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, and top-5 finish in MVP voting in his first year, since then.. two Silver Slugger awards, four top-three MVP voting finishes not to mention one MVP award, and five All-Star appearances
Wow, I was stupid. I didn't want Jeter over Reyes... too late to change now, oh well.
My bench is far more deep, but I think you said you were going for some chemistry.
I personally wouldn't rely on Bedard or Guthrie yet.. these are their first good years.
DJTG_2010 said 07/31, 09:08 AM
Martin is young, yes, but I have Mauer on the bench who can come in if he struggles. Martinez would be good, but who knows how much longer he could catch? He has been playing a lot of games at first lately, so you have to wonder how much is left in the tanks.
By adding the DH, Sheffield, I can sacrifice some power at first base, and insert some fielding with the two-time Gold Glove winner Teixiera. Yes, Pujols has a Gold Glove, but I just have more of a comfort level with Teixiera.
Reyes provides a good spark at the top of the lineup.
How is your bench deeper than mine? You have a catcher, like me, but you have a first baseman on the bench, giving you three on your roster, which in National League game would give you two power hitting first basemen on the bench. Hanley Ramirez would be good on your bench, and I'm assuming Holliday is coming off of the bench, but who's going to play second base when Utley needs a day off? Third base? Even an extra outfield spot? I have Spiezio to handle that. He has played games at first, third, second, short, first, outfield, pitcher, and I'm pretty sure catcher, in his career. I have better run-producers on my bench. Hanley could fill it at third or second if need-be.
Reyes is a good spark at the top of the lineup, but if I have to defend Jeter, he has the experience and definitely a great clutch hitter. Jeter didn't get the name Mr. November for nothing. He has a couple of rings to back that up.
I still wouldn't feel confident enough with Bedard or Guthrie. Bedard may have been talked about for a few years now, but this is his first good year. Guthrie is young, and it's also his first good year. If you want to look down the road, they may be good choices, but I wouldn't chose them quite yet.

"Hanley could fill it at third or second if need-be. "
See, that's a pretty big if. If need-be. That means, to me at least, only if there's an emergency, he would step in. Who will give your guys days off in the dog days of August? Spiezio can give anyone a day off, whenever, giving more flexibility with the lineup.
I give you Jeter, but has Mr. November been in November in the last 5 or 6 years? But still, I'll give you Jeter. Reyes can help steer this young team in the right direction.
As for having confidence in Bedard and Guthrie, last year was the first year Bedard started over 30 games, and he showed with a 15-11 record. This year he is 11-4, so consistency is in the works. Guthrie is more of a risk, but in the bullpen, I have Kason Gabbard and Brian Burres, both of whom can come in and go for 4 or 5 innings if a starter falters.

Just getting some clarification, am I allowed to have any of the same guys as you? And are we going for chemistry, a complete team, or an All-Star team?

It looks like an All-Star team. Or statistical leaders, I'll just go with that.

You can have some of the same guys. Whoever you want if you were to make a franchise. Do you want chemistry, or do you want an All-Star team? Up to you.

Yours looks pretty much like an All-Star team, so I'll go with that. I've got some stuff I got to do, so I'll be back in a little while.

Why is Ryan Franklin on that team... he's posting what I'd consider "lucky" numbers this year (compare his K's to his IP and you'll see he's vastly overperforming his actual talent) and for his career, he's NEVER been this good.
And if you're just doing it on this year instead of a lot of years, then Puljols really has no right to be there, he's played rather average this year (I know because he completely submarined my H2H fantasy baseball team)

Franklin's having a good year, and quite frankly, I wasn't sure who to have vacate that spot. Pujols is a good franchise player.. not necessarily just this year.

Numbers in fantasy mean nothing in the real game.

Guthrie may be somewhat fluky, but there's been a lot of hype around Bedard for a couple of years.

Continued from argument #2...
"He is also one of the best clutch performers in postseason history. Also, I can insert Markakis and Byrnes in, in the late innings for a defensive replacement over Ordonez or Holliday.
Bedard is among the strikeout leaders, he just needs a good lineup behind him. With run support, Guthrie could be 11-2, not 7-3."
The End.

Cody, your roster is illegal as the limit is a 25 man roster. It is hard to vote for you because you have too many unfair options.
