The Bucks while losing all of their starting skill players on offense still have Chris Wells at tailback nad Robiskie and Hartline at receiver and still a great o=line. The Defense is awesome with Nagurski winner James Laurinaitis and Malcolm Jenkins. Also with Tressel as coach anything is possible. We were hoping for an ok season back in 2002 and ended up with a national championship

If they Buckeyes are going to get to 9 wins this season, they are going to need to get their defensive line and secondary to work efficiently early in the season.
I think it will come down to a couple of games for them: at Purdue, at Penn State, Wisconsin, and at Michigan. I think those are their only swing games really. Their first five games should be pretty easy for them if they have good performances from their quarterback and defense. Another big thing is getting their quarterbacks to be efficient.
On offense they lost Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr, Anthony Gonzalez, and Antonio Pittman. Those are some big names to lose. Chris Wells should be able to have a great year with the very good offensive line, but it is up to them to work together to be able to give him the open field.
Their defense was ranked fifth in the nation last year, and they lost quite a bit of that too. They should have a decent defensive line, but again, it's up to them to learn how to work together well. Their linebackers should be pretty good, too.
If they use the first couple of games to work together as a team, by the time their first big game comes - at Purdue - they should be working efficiently.

Purdue is not that good and the Bucks always play good against Wisconsin. I think PennSt will have their number this year. However because they have beat Michigan three straight years you have to watch because Tressel always gets his teams up for that game.
CodyShep233 said 07/31, 11:34 AM
You have to remember... they aren't the same team. They may have some good players coming back, and some new ones coming in, but they are far from the team they were last year.
Purdue may not be *that* good, but I still think this is one of their swing games. Going to Purdue is harder than playing them in Ohio. If they were playing them at home, I'd give them the edge. Again, they play good against Wisconsin, but they are a different team. Playing against Michigan in Ann Arbor isn't an easy task for any team.. I don't care who you are.
They have a fairly easy schedule this year, but they still have those swing games I mentioned. If they get good performances early from their quarterback, they have a chance at winning some of those bigger games. If their team doesn't work together as one, they have less chance obviously.

Cmon realistically looking at their schedule they should lose two games to Wisconsin and Michigan giving them 10 wins. The Purdue and Penn St games are like u said swing games but looking at both teams i give the Bucks the edge. That should leave them at 10-2 and maybe a chance at a Rose Bowl or the Outback Bowl. Never underestimate a Tressel coached team and watch out for their D which is one of the best in the country to be able to carry them a long way.

How many teams from the state of Ohio do they have scheduled for this season? Three? They will have to try very hard to NOT win nine games.

First, OSU will be great on defense. Each unit has a star. Line it's Gholston, backer it's Laurinitis, and DB it's Jenkins. The defense didn't lose many. They should be awesome.
Second, the offense will be fine. Our QB will take a Krenzel role and not turn the ball over. We'll change from the explosive, firepower offense used the past two years to what was used in the Nat'l Championship year. A solid running game, and a passing game that relies on short plays and no turnovers. Tressel has proven that he can use either one successfully. He is a great back (in fact, that's one of the reasons Pittman left, he would've gotten less carries this year).
Third, look at the roster compared to 2002. This team is very similar on paper. I'm not saying it will be the same results, but we don't have to have a dominating O to be successful.
Fourth, look at the schedule. This is one of the few years OSU doesn't have a tough non-conference game. They should easily start 8-0. The only games in that stretch that could test them is Purdue and Washington. Our last four games have three tough teams, but also Illinois, so we will get nine. In fact, I think we will win 10 or maybe even 11. We will at least one of the three tough games, and possibly two. Dare I say we could go undefeated (okay that's a stretch, but we will definitely win 10.

I'd be careful not to take Illinois too lightly. They're a couple of years away, but Zook has that program headed in the right direction, and he's attracted a top-notch recruiting class.
They were much improved last year, didn't show up in the W-L but they'll be better this year. If you overlook them, you just might get bit.

Yeah they probably will. Games I see them losing are against Wisconsin and Michigan. Penn State is questionable.

Razmataz, I know anything can happen, but even if OSU loses a game they shouldn't (Illinois, Purdue, Washington, etc.) they will still get a win against one of the big three, which would get them 10.

I'll say this much, you got one thing right. I think Wells is a future Heisman winner and will have a very strong year. But this is Michigans year and it will not be close. First off, we have a very good back as well and our quarterback isn't too shabby either. Our defense gained alot of experience last year and will be up for the challenge this year. You heard it here first folks. MICHIGAN VS. FLORIDA for your national championship.

Mike Hart has a better chance than Manningham.

OSU always reloads. Tressel is a great coach. I think Ohio State not only will win 9 games but could still beat out Wisconsin or Michigan for the Big 10.

Tressel makes a living out of playing great defense and special teams. Last year was his first ever at OSU where he had a high powered offense. People are underestimating the Buckeyes, but they could really surprise some people this year, uncluding Wisconsin and Michigan.
