Kevin Durant has better scoring ability then Jeff Green and he is a prime time player. No doubt Jeff Green could average 15 points, but Durant will average more points are more rebounds so hwo does that put Green oveer Durant? You could say that teams will focus on Durant, but that does not matter, Green will deamnd some respect but not enough to win ROY before Durant.

I'm probably going to lose this because I was just going against popular opinion. Anyways, just hear me out on this one.

Durant isn't strong. It will be tough for him to get off his shot and, also, to match up defensively against other players. He doesn't weigh much for being 6'11" and will be bullied by other players, simply put. Jeff Green is more NBA ready than Durant. He is a more well-rounded player and a better passer than Kevin Durant. KD cannot match up with players on the block in the League. Their physical nature will be too much for him. He will get posted up all day long. Green is 2 inches shorter than Durant YET weighs 13 pounds more. That makes a big difference. Durant might have trouble passing out of the double. Green, on the other hand, is great at recognizing double teams and, suprisingly, has a pretty good post-up game for a small forward and can take advantage of smaller players. They will lock on Durant in Seattle leaving even more opportunities for Green, who is a great finisher who can leap out of the gym. And, lastly, Green can take the hit and finish as Durant cannot, which stems back to Durant not being very strong compared to others at his position.

Durant can't finish??? Did you really say that? I know its college but he was double teamed even triple teamed in college. Green had more help then Durant did seeing Roy Hibbert was on Greens team. Durant will also have more blocks than Green. Durant will win not only because his stats will be better but for the type of player he is.

Let's Look at winners back to the 83-84 season:

Ralph Sampson
Michael Jordan
Patrick Ewing
Chuck Person
Mark Jackson
Mitch Richmond
David Robinson
Derrick Coleman
Larry Johnson
Shaquille O'Neal
Chris Webber
Grant Hill and Jason Kidd
Damon Stoudamire
Allen Iverson
Tim Duncan
Vince Carter
Elton Brand and Steve Francis
Mike Miller
Pau Gasol
Amare Stoudemire
LeBron James
Emeka Okafor
Chris Paul
Brandon Roy

Besides Chris Paul, Marc Jackson, Jason Kidd, and maybe Damon Stoudamire all of these guys are scorers and scorers first. They put up points thier rookie seasons. not putting everything on points but Durant wil have more ppg and be the leader of that team thats his personaitly. Jeff Green will be a good player maybe even a great player, but Durant's rookie season will be better.

First off, that list isn't a good measuring stick because all of those guys played different positions and played in different eras where the style of basketball wasn't the same. So you can't really use that list for a good comparison. Amare Stoudemire was the last power forward to win it and when he came into the League he was ripped and he was powerful underneath. The last small forward to do it was Brandon Roy, last year. This is the best comparison because they are from the same era AND the same position. Now, there are exceptions on your list of so-called pure scorers: Kidd, Paul, Jackson, and Stoudemire. Why not put Roy on that list? He actually averaged less points per game than Jackson in his rookie year.

But there have been exceptions. So I don't understand why Jeff Green can't be another exception of pure scorers. Besides, like you said, he didn't score as much due to having a great big man in Roy Hibbert. I mean, the last "exception" on that list was Chris Paul, only two years ago.

And Durant can NOT finish when he gets fouled by physical and stronger players because he is weak for his height.

Durant does plenty of damage in the paint especially becasue of his wingspan. He can play in and outside. He is more versatile then Green, and has more flare, more media hype, more leadership skills, more talent, more basketball skills, a strong IQ, and a desire that only the great ones posses. Im not declaring him great just yet, but all signs point to it. His potential in his first year is out the roof. No one thought he would put up 30 a night in college but he did. No one gave Texas a chance last year but he carried them..not that far but further then expected. The list can be used a as good measuring stick because there was a consistant trend throughout all those years...scorers win. Plus, Roy was in a weak rookie class for rookie season stats.

Are you saying Green doesn't have a wide wingspan? Because his is pretty good as well. Durant will NOT be able to play inside in the NBA. Even against smaller opponents, such as Green, because they are stronger and have more meat on their bones. They are both very versatile, no doubt about that. What's it matter if Durant has more flare? Nothing.

What's it matter if Durant has more hype? The only thing that means is that he has more pressure on him to do well which isn't alway a good thing. I think there may be too much hype for Durant. So much that it will be next to impossible for him to live up to it in his rookie season. Everyone expects Green just to be a tag-along to KD. But he can make things happen out there, and not always by scoring. His shot can be off and he can still have a decent game. If Durant's shot is off he, plainly put, sucks out there. He can't help his team. Jeff Green was the leader on his college team as well. How does Durant somehow have better leadership skills considering Green took his team deeper into the NCAA Tourney? Green completely came out of nowhere last year in college basketball. Continued below...

EVERYONE PLEASE READ THE ARGUMENTS AND UNDERSTAND AS TO WHY I CHOSE GREEN.

July 31, 2007  07:03 PM ET

tick because there was a consistant trend throughout all those years...scorers win. Plus, Roy was in a weak rookie class for rookie season stats.

July 31, 2007  07:03 PM ET

disregard that

July 31, 2007  07:25 PM ET

Continued from my final argument...

He is very clutch (not saying Durant isn't) but he can hit big shots. KEVIN DURANT is my choice to win NBA Rookie of the Year. MARK MY WORDS.

July 31, 2007  07:27 PM ET

By the way, I would just like to say that challenging people to throwdowns because of comments made is total BS. They could be thinking, "This guy is going to have an amazing year," while no one else is thinking that. Then when they are challenged to a throwdown everyone votes on the topic alone. I was down 7-1 before I even made an argument. How does that happen?

July 31, 2007  07:34 PM ET

For sheer guts, vote to G.O.A.T.
Its nice when someone goes against popular opinion, but can actually back it up.

July 31, 2007  07:45 PM ET

And, Mike, I swear I'm not cheating. I'm fricking 5-9-1 and haven't won a throwdown since early June. I'm not a cheater.

Okay, and thanks for believing me. I know a lot of people on this site are too quick to judge and would probably label me a "cheater" if they saw what you did.

Both presented good arguments, nice work!

Kevin McHale has robbed me of my will and desire to follow pro basketball, so Durant or Green could win and I won't care for at least four years. In the meantime, I'm waiting for the Timberwolves to announce that McHale is to be executed through stick-beating, and the first 1,000 people ages 18 and up get one whack at him for every season ticket they buy.
