as a rookie who only played 15 games, and started just 12, he ended up with 104 tackles and 1 int. He was a key part of Buffalo's top 5 pass d. he will only continue to improve barring injuries. He will be a top 10 saftey at the end of this season

WHAT????

Nice......

Uhmmm. . .no counter argument?

my bad.....ben messed this whole thing up (j/k)! and then when i posted that i didnt see your argument in the comment field.

INTs are miss leading for a SAFETY. I checked the stats for safetys in the AFC and no one has more then 5. When it comes to tackles, he had almost 2x the amount that ed reed had. He has more tackles then T. Polamolu, Brian Dawkins, Roy Williams and R. Harrison. He has almost as many tackles as BOTH starting safeties on the Bears. Those are all the ELITE safeties and whitner is putting up Damn good #'s for a rookie, and he will be top 10 at the end of next season

Polamlu (SS): 57, 1 Sack, 3 INTs, 1 FF, 10 PDs
Reed (FS): 51, 5 INTs, 1 TD, 1 FF, 1 FR, 9 PDs
Wilson (SS): 74, 5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 1 TD, 4 FF, 2 FR, 1 TD, 11 PDs
Williams (SS): 52, 5 INT, 2 FR, 14 PDs
Dawkins (FS): 71, 1 Sack, 4 INTs, 5 FF, 13 PDs
Harrison (SS): 54, 2 Sacks, 2 INTs, 2 FF, 2 FR, 5 PDs
Taylor (FS): 86, 1 INT, 3 FF, 7 PDs
Rhodes (FS): 75, 5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 13 PDs

Whitner (SS): 67, 1 INT, 5 PDs

Hell, why don't you look at C.C. Brown, also young? He had 1 less tackle, had an INT, and 5 PDs, but ALSO had a sack, a FF, AND a FR.

What about Josh Bullocks? 56 tackles, 2 INTs, 7 PDs, and 1 FF.

Nick Collins? 65 Tackles, 3 INTs, 1 TD, 13 PDs, 2 FF

Sean Considine had 59 tackles, but 1.5 sacks, 1 INT, 5 PDs, 1 FF and 2 FRs

Will Demps: 74 tackles, 1 SK, 2 INTs, 7 PDs, 1 FF, 2 FR

Hell, look at Sean Jones: 70 tackles, 0.5 Sacks, 5 INTs, 16(!) PDs, 1 FR

Landry: 48 Tackles, 3 Sacks, 5 INTs, 1 TD, 11 PDs

Bob Sanders was on pace for 76 tackles, 4 INTs, 8 PDs, and 4 FF

Hell if it's tackles your looking at, look at Schweigert. 86 tackles, 4 PDs, 1 FR.

I'd take EVERYONE on this list before Whitner. Tackles are AMAZINGLY overrated. Look at diff. stats

Whoops >_<

That was an accident

August 1, 2007  03:44 PM ET

Dude...that sucks...

August 1, 2007  03:45 PM ET

Just post your argument down here...

August 1, 2007  03:49 PM ET

Anyways. . .

1) Get your facts straight. He started 14 games.

2) Buffalo's pass defense was #7, not Top 5. Once again, get your facts straight.

3) He had 67 solo tackles. Total tackles are a joke way to judge a player. Assisted tackles are a joke. You can jump on the guy and not have anything to do with bringing him down and you'd have an assist.

4) 1 interception? Wow, that's really "being a key part". Come on, even Ko Simpson had more picks than he did. Even Jason Webster, the 4th string CB had more picks.

August 1, 2007  03:50 PM ET

In short, there's no way he becomes Top 10.

You can't rise that fast, especially when you just say "Safety", AKA both FS and SS.

August 1, 2007  04:25 PM ET

oh ****...i didnt see that down here.

August 1, 2007  04:32 PM ET

"Saftey."

What is wrong with everyone?

August 2, 2007  03:01 PM ET

I didn't mess it up!!!

August 2, 2007  05:35 PM ET

Tackles aren't everything.

If they were Junior Seau would probably be the best LB to ever play the game, and Rice would be a bottom-tier DE.

August 2, 2007  05:36 PM ET

Oh, and NEVER, EVER go by Total Tackles.

They are the most misleading stat ever invented.
