Dan TM is Stupendous Man said 08/03, 09:44 AM
Now that you understand the rules, here we go again.
Here are the rules (for voters' sake): I have made a defensive lineup out of quarterbacks. You make an offensive lineup out of any defensive position: CBs, Safeties, LBs, DTs, DEs. We imagine what would happen if they faced each other. You can run any formation you choose, but you only get 11 players. Also, pick a coordinator out of players from that position.
Here's my team - I'm running a 3-4:
DE: JaMarcus Russell, David Garrard
DT: Jared Lorenzen
OLB: Donovan McNabb, Vince Young
ILB: Ben Roethlisberger, Steve McNair
CB: Seneca Wallace, Troy Smith
SS: Charlie Batch
FS: Tony Romo
Coordinator: Peyton Manning

Interesting call with the 5-wide - that's putting a lot of faith in Dawkins to get the ball to people though. What's the point in an offense built to beat me deep if you don't have someone to throw a good deep ball?
With the formation you're throwing at me, I'd probably use a lot of zone coverage; dropping a linebacker or two into coverage, but throwing a lot of mixed looks at you. Then I'd blitz the heck out of you with different combinations of LBs.
It'd get ugly fast, if you ask me. Lorenzen, Russell, and Garrard are going to maul your linemen and McNabb, McNair, and Young in particular are going to be able to hit Dawkins at full speed. There won't be any time for your WRs to get deep.
JT izzle said 08/03, 01:16 PM
your right but i will attack your corners. Smith ran a 4.8 40 or somethin and your safeties appear to be push overs. Yoyr corners cant keep up with my WR. Most of my line men had over 100 tckls and arent that small so this would be a good match. Point- Your DB's cant keep up with my WR's
Dan TM is Stupendous Man said 08/03, 01:56 PM
Yes, but like I said, you need someone who can accurately get them the ball for them to take advantage of that speed mismatch. You also need to give your passer time - your receivers won't get ten yards by the time my front seven break through your tiny offensive line and nails Dawkins. With a little jamming at the line, they'll be lucky to get out of the five-yard no-contact zone before Dawkins is on his back. Sure, you might get lucky and burn me deep once or twice, but you'd get punished over the course of an entire game.
Then there's the fact that you're running a five-wide set. I don't have to respect the run at all. Sure, there's end-arounds, and QB sneaks, but I can mostly play the pass straight up and that'll help me compensate for the speed issues.
JT izzle said 08/03, 02:18 PM
whats to say i dont send 4 recievers deep let your big guys attack and keep ED REED for a screen or send one of my WRs in motion and do a hand off and everyone blocks. The fact is your big guys can penatrate my boys but i only need a second for my WRs to burn your DBs.
I dont always have to go deep

lol....you got whitner as a guard??
it kinda hard to vote for either of you, but i think the Lorenzo pick at DT is the deal maker. Its kinda hard to imagine these guys at those positions. Good TD topic though!!!!!!!

tony romo at safety? surely not
gotta respect the offense out of safeties....cant hold it against him with the small offensive line cuz u dont find too many 300 pound safeties

well, yeah, but he chose safeties, thus choosing to make O-line a weakness.
As for my safeties, Garcia would have been a good safety when he was younger maybe. I chose guys who wouldn't be afraid to nail a guy - choosing hard-hitting over speed. And I didn't use Vick assuming he won't be in the league this year.

Tony Romo as FS... give me a break there are a lot other qbs who can run better than him, vote goes orangeblood

hard hitting over speed sure, but Romo runs like a 6 second 40. it took him longer than that to run halfway to the goal line in the playoffs last year from like 10 yards. i think dan marino would have scored on that play, lol
u are right about him choosing safety. i would have gone with linebackers

sigh... you guys are probably right, I should have chosen Stanback over Romo to get one speedy safety. But then again, I couldn't have known he was going to choose safeties - Romo would have been just fine against linebackers.

No I still think Romo would have been killed by linebackers. He could have put Boss Bailey and Tim Shaw at WR, and they have both been clocked at just above 4.4
