Jason Taylor in 156 games currently has
600 Tackles | 391 Solo | 209 Assisted | 106 Sacks | 6 INTs | 64 PDs | 36 FFs | 23 FRs | 7 TDs
At Peppers' current pace, in 156 games he will have
513 Tackles | 416 Solo | 97 Assisted | 109 Sacks | 6 INTs | 53 PDs | 34 FFs | 8 FRs | 4 TDs
Now, Peppers' 156th game is the 16th game of the 5th season from now.
In 5 seasons, Peppers will be 32.
Here is what he needs to average per game to get to Taylor's stats:
4.38 Tackles | 2.35 Solo | 2.03 Assisted | 0.66 Sacks | 0.038 INTs | 0.48 PDs | 0.24 FFs | 0.24 FRs | 0.063 TDs
Given his current average per game:
3.29 Tackles | 2.67 Solo | 0.62 Assisted | 0.70 Sacks | 0.039 INTs | 0.34 PDs | 0.22 FFs | 0.053 FRs | 0.026 TDs
You'll notice that A LOT of his averages are higher than they already are.
Given that he'll be 32 in 5 seasons, I highly doubt he can keep up his current pace, let alone raise the bar.

OK, let's look at Pepper's 5 total seasons versus Taylor's first 5 seasons:
Peppers- 76 GAMES, 255 tackles, 53.5 sacks, 17 FF, 31 PD, 3 INT, 3 Pro Bowls
J Taylor- 76 GAMES, 278 tackles, 39.5 sacks, 11 FF, 30 PD, 3 INT, 1 Pro Bowl
Peppers was also DROY in 2002, his rookie year.
I'm not saying that Peppers is better than Taylor overall, but as you can see from the stats, Peppers was better than Taylor in both of their first 5 seasons. That is a very good sign that Peppers could mature into a player that is better than Taylor.

See, you didn't even argue what I was pointing out. Good job Fannation, you guys really showed your biasism once again.
This is Peppers' current 76-game stats PER GAME:
3.29 Tackles | 2.67 Solo | 0.62 Assisted | 0.70 Sacks | 0.039 INTs | 0.34 PDs | 0.22 FFs | 0.053 FRs | 0.026 TDs
In order to reach Taylor's 156-game stats, he'll need to average:
4.38 Tackles | 2.35 Solo | 2.03 Assisted | 0.66 Sacks | 0.038 INTs | 0.48 PDs | 0.24 FFs | 0.24 FRs | 0.063 TDs
Over 80 games.
That's 1.1 Tackles, 1.41 Assisted (Which is impossible, you can't have more Assisted tackles than total tackles), 0.14 PDss, 0.02 FFs, 0.187 FRs, and 0.037 TDs MORE THAN HE'S CURRENTLY AVERAGING.
The point is this:
He HAS to go at this NEW rate in order to reach Taylor.
He CAN'T be injured. He CAN'T miss a game.
And a couple points you guys should know:
1) Taylor wasn't coached well his first few years. Once they got a better coach, they unlocked his true potential. Just like Simeon Rice.
2) Y HALO THAR 3rd Round draft pick.
3) Peppers has more speed. Even I'd admit that. He's quite possibly the most talented DE in the NFL today.
Lifer: A Special Boy said 08/06, 12:37 PM
OK, first off, you're wrong, Peppers averages 3.36 tackles per game, and 2.74 solo per game, so your other stats must be off as well (255 tackles/76 games).
And you do realize that Jason Taylor was actually averaging worse stats than Peppers after his 5th season? As I've shown, Taylor was doing worse at the same point in their careers, yet he managed to do as well as he is doing now. If Peppers, at the same point, is doing better, why can't he turn out to be better than Taylor is? It's perfectly plausible.

Did you read my argument?
Taylor had crappy coaching his first few years, and actually, he was a third round draft pick. Mostly those take at least 3 years until they start.
That would explain it, no? If that were the case.
Taylor played DE in college, but when the 'Phins brought him in they changed him to a LB because they played a 3-4. They switched to a 4-3 in 2000, and look what happened to Taylor. BOOM 14.5 sacks.
Oh, and no, my stats are right. Peppers has 250 tackles, 203 being solo, over 76 games. Check the NFL site, you'll see that YOU'RE wrong.
And actually, worse? Taylor had 273 tackles after 5 seasons; 23 MORE than Peppers.
Lifer: A Special Boy said 08/06, 03:11 PM
-His first few years, he had Jimmy Johnson as a coach (2 Super Bowls), and the three years Johnson was the coach when Taylor was on the team, the 'Phins went 9-7, 10-6, and 9-7 again. Not really that bad a coach.
-If that is the case, then it is impossible to compare the players, as Taylor was a much more mature player when he became a DE, whereas Peppers became one when he was just out of college. It's basically comparing a rookie to a player with 5 years experience.
-Check Yahoo, ESPN, and SI. All three of those have Peppers with 255 total tackles. Guess what? You're the wrong one, not me.
-And you say that you would take 23 tackles over 14 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and a pass deflection? I certainly wouldn't.

Report Offensive CommentI think Julius Peppers is already in the same class as Jason Taylor. Peppers is also better against the run and is taller and 30 lbs heavier.

Report Offensive Commentpeppers could easily be better than taylor
the major thing that helps taylor is his speed
he is as fast or faster than the average reciever

Report Offensive CommentWait...if Peppers will be 32 in five years...and that's bad...have you considered the fact Taylor was 31 when he won the Defensive Player of the Year award last season, and he'll be 32 at the start of this season?
Pass rushers get more savvy with age. While Taylor is a fantastic player, nothing you said suggests Peppers cannot finish his career at Taylor's level.

Report Offensive CommentIf anything Peppers should be overrated.
With his talent he should be putting up 20 sack seasons EVERY SEASON.
Let's not forget that:
A) Peppers was suspended for 4 games in 2002 (Funny, that was his rookie year) for Steroid abuse. Guess he's crying wolf over Merriman eh?
B) Taylor has been talented enough to be used as a LB in a 3-4.
AND
C) Taylor has tied the record for most TDs by a DE with 7.
