Goodell: PULL THE TRIGGER said 08/09, 11:14 AM
1) Lee Evans - 82 rec, 1292 yds, 15.8 per and 8 tds.......
2) Mike Furrey - 98 rec, 1086 yds, 11.1 per and 6 tds.....
3) Andre Johnson - 103 rec, 1147 yds, 11.1 per and 5 tds.....
Now i know Johnson made the Pro Bowl but i have never seen him on anyone top 5 list...its alway chad, marvin, steve s, TJ, Reggie wayne, TO... and so on. Thats why i got him on my under rated list
Dan TM is Stupendous Man said 08/09, 11:28 AM
1) Andre Johnson - I wouldn't use him except that you are.
2) Lee Evans
3) Laveranues Coles - 91 rec, 1098 yds, 12.1 per, 6 TDs
Since we're agreeing that Johnson qualifies, he's my number one. This guy was playing with a QB on his back the whole time, with no other viable targets except for a shadow of what Eric Moulds once was. That means defenses could key in on him and he still led the league in receptions. That's amazing. He deserved his Pro Bowl selection, and should be in people's top whatever lists over Reggie Wayne and TJ Houshmandzadeh who get to take advantage of #2 cornerbacks.
Evans is only #2 because I think Johnson is a better choice.
I have Coles over Furrey because his numbers are better, and like Johnson, he's a #1 receiver, not a #2. Plus, Furrey's breakout season was very likely a product of Mike Martz' offense - put him on another team and he'll be lucky to crack 1,000 yards. I think Coles and Evans are both underrated for the same reason; they disappointed in the past, and so people expect them to fail.
Goodell: PULL THE TRIGGER said 08/09, 11:40 AM
The reason i got evans at #1 is simple. the game he had agianst the texans last season was one of the best performances by a WR in NFL history...2, count em 2, 83 yds td passes.....racked up 11 rec for 265 yds. Take away BOTH TD passes and he still got 99 yds rec.
The reason i have Furrey at 2 is cause with the slew of WRs that the Lions have went through over the past few years, he was the least hyped and put out almost the best production
I got Johnson at 3 just cause he made the pro-bowl
Dan TM is Stupendous Man said 08/09, 11:51 AM
The Lions that flamed out (Mike Williams, Carlos Rogers) failed because of laziness. And Furrey's definitely not lazy, I'll give him that. But Williams and Rogers were in the doghouse from the first moment disciplinarian Rod Marinelli took over as coach.
One great game does not a great WR make. Of course, I agree that Evans is underrated, he's on my list too. Just not #1.
Finally, Coles' numbers are better than Furrey's, and I'll reiterate that he was doing it against #1 corners, not #2's (two games against Asante Samuel, two against Nate Clements). He also had a QB with a weaker arm in Pennington, and wasn't in such a pass-happy offense.
Goodell: PULL THE TRIGGER said 08/09, 12:12 PM
Coles is a good pick and i almost took him, but my homerism prevaild. Thats why lee is #1. I didnt mean that they were in order, but its all good. Furrey will be a beast this season as well. His work ethic is among the best in Detroit. We both agree on Johnson, even though he made the PB and led the NFL in REC, his is never considerd a elite WR in the NFL.
Even though my 6 year old son has a better arm then Chad, the Jets o-line is 10x better then the line in Detroit, thats why Furrey got the nod
Dan TM is Stupendous Man said 08/09, 01:12 PM
I don't think Furrey's numbers will be quite as good this season (though it'll be close). He's very close to becoming the Ricky Proehl to Williams/Johnson's Bruce/Holt. Meanwhile, the Jets' "10x better" line will be... I don't know, 12x better? Because Mangold and Ferguson aren't rookies anymore.
That's a hell of a six-year-old. You must be proud.

I've said many times that I hate overrated/underrated throwdowns, but I figure this one won't be so bad, so I'm taking it.

I'd probably throw driver in my top 15 underrated, but anyone who's Brett Favre's #1 target pretty much gets due attention.

Furrey's stats are bloated. All the attention is on Roy Williams, and they have no one else to throw to.
