First of all sorry I've been super busy today. Secondly I think the best non-BCS conference is the Mountain West.
Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME said 08/09, 11:23 PM
I say the WAC. Last year the Mountain West's win total of its top 5 schools: 42, WAC's: 45. Boise St., Hawaii, San Jose State & Nevada bring back alot of talent from their bowl teams of '06. Fresno St. will go back to '05 form (8-5) w/ the talent they'll have back this year. From the Mountain West, BYU will step back from 11-2 to their losing ways the past 4 years (20-27) w/all the talent they've lost, especially QB (John Beck).TCU=still very good but Utah, BYU, Wyoming & New Mex. are ?'s at best.

The reason the yop 5 teams in the WAC had 45 combined wins is because the bottom schools in the WAC are by far worse than the bottom schools in the Mountain West. Of course all of the top teams in the WAC are going to beat a push over like Idaho, but there isn't a push over like that in the Mountain West, its a by far more competitive league from top to bottom. I think that the worst team in the Mountain West this year, Air Force could easily beat the worse team in the WAC, Idaho.
Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME said 08/10, 03:25 PM
The schools in the Mountain West bottom rung aren't better than those in the WAC's. Last year the WAC's 4 bottom feeders record was 12-37, Mountain West's was 13-35, not a big difference. Also, you're argument above is assuming A.F. will be the worst team in the Mount. West this year (i say it will be UNLV) and that they would beat the worst in the WAC (Idaho). The worst will prob. be Utah State (WAC) & UNLV (MWC), which would be a competitive game, not a pushover by the Mount West as u suggest.

The non conference schedules of many Mountain West school are very good, and they play many top caliber teams such as: Texas, Louisville, Wisconsin, Virginina, UCLA. Schools in the WAC have such weak non conference schedules, it wont any thing for them in the eyes of voters. But if a school like TCU is able to take down Texas or if UNLV beats Wisconsin that could do alot for this conference.
Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME said 08/10, 04:34 PM
The non-conf. schedules of the WAC is nothing to sneeze at either man, check out who's playing who this year (outside of Boise State playing OK last year and making the WAC look great in their bowl game) Idaho plays USC, Utah State plays Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech plays Cal and LSU, New Mexico State plays Auburn, Fresno State plays Texas A&M and Oregon, Nevada plays Nebraska, & S.J. st plays Arizona State, let alone Hawaii & Boise State playing each other. The MWC non-conf. sched. isn't superior.

Report Offensive CommentIn addition to the fact that Boise State aqquited themselves with a stunning BCS bowl win against a tough Big XII team, I have read that many BCS teams are reluctant to schedule a game on the road to play Hawaii, despite the fact that they get to go to a tropical paradise.

Report Offensive CommentThe WAC does still play 1-AA schools, though, which is pretty pathetic. Arguement to Ravens.

Report Offensive CommentThe WAC certainly looks good at this particular moment with Boise State and Hawaii, but the Mountain West is more consistently good, with more tradition and more staying power. BYU was a couple of plays away from being undefeated last year and having the same type of season that Boise had last year, and Utah was in a BCS bowl just a couple years before that. Then there's TCU, who has also had a great few years. After Boise State and Hawaii, who the heck is left in the WAC?
aglebagel | 08/10/07, 06:42 PM
Report Offensive CommentActually, wouldn't it be cool if the conferences would recombine, with Boise State, BYU, Utah, TCU, Hawaii, etc.? I've always been kind of bitter that my BYU is a bigger university than half of the BCS conference schools, yet is stuck in a crappy, non-exposed conference just because of geography. However, if there were a merger of the WAC and MWC, you'd have a pretty formidable conference, nearly on-par with the BCS guys in a good year.
