When I say most overlooked, I mean the best Offense that isn???t really mentioned, and I???m gonna go with the 1998 Minnesota Vikings. The Team went 15-1 that year largely in part of their amazing offense, but amazingly they always seem to be overlooked when talking about the best Offenses ever or of the last 20 years.

As a Unit the Vikings scored 556 points- The most ever in a single season, and averaged 34.7 Points per game.

I???ll show you their starters from that year and their stats.

QB-Randal Cunningham- 259 /425 60.1% 3704 yards 34 TD 10 INT 106.0 Rat in 16 games

QB-Brad Johnson- 65/101 64.4% 747 yards 7 TD 5 INT in 89.0 Rat 5 games

RB- Robert Smith-249 ATT 1,184 yards 4.8 YPC 6 TDs in 14 games

RB-Leroy Horde 115 ATT 479 yards 4.2 YPC 9 TDs in 16 games

WR-Cris Carter-78 Catches 1,011 yards 13.0 avg 12 TDs in 16 games

WR-Randy Moss-69 Catches 1313 yards 19.0 avg 17 TDs-in 16 games

WR-Jake Reed=34 Catches 474 yards 13.9 avg 4 TDS-in 11 games

TE- Andrew Glover 35 Catches 522 yards 14.9 avg 5 TDs in 16 games

I would go with something more recent: the 2004 Indianapolis Colts.

That 556 points was not scored only by their offense. In fact, their offense (not including FGs or PATs) scored 348 points.

The 2004 Colts O scored 366 points.

The Colts offense was destructive. Manning set the record for most passing TDs in a season with 49. He set the record for highest QB Rating with 121.1.

The Colts became the only team in history to not only have 3 Wide Receivers go over 1000 yards, but also 10 TDs. Clark and Pollard also chipped in with 5 and 6 TDs respectively.

The Colts also had 156 more yards.

The Colts Offense isn???t really overlooked and isn???t any where near as overlooked as the Vikings was. The Colts offense when overlooked was overlooked because, it was only as good as it was because they had no defense(it was ranked 31st Overall that year) which forced them to throw the ball often in the 4th quarter resulting in engorged stats for Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley.

The Vikings however ranked 6th overall that year, The Vikings Offense could score much better than the Colts, and your statement about yards was because of a porous D. So Overall the Vikings Offense was better and did not have the ball nearly as often as the colts did because their D could actually stall the opposing offense.

I???ll go into schedules in my next argument.

It forced them to throw the ball more?

How about the game against Detroit? Manning threw 6 TDs in a little over a half, and the final score was 41-9.

The Vikings O could score much better? Like, is that why the Colts O actually scored more offensive points than the Vikings did?

And what? The Vikings D wasn't exactly the best either. Sure they were 6th in the league in scoring defense, but they were 15th in yards allowed.

And keep in mind Manning only played 2 snaps in the last game of the season, and they lost that game 33-14 against Denver.

Theoretically, if he would've played that game he would have had 4855 passing yards and 52 or 53 Passing TDs.

And considering they played Denver again the next week in the wildcard and Manning threw 4 TDs it's not that much of a stretch.

It did because they were practically always behind, and they had to score.

I would expect 6 TDs in half by Peyton Manning against Detroit of all teams; they had one of the worst passing Defenses in the league that year.

A lot of starters sit out part of the last game if they???ve already clinched the playoffs, in fact the Vikings sat most of their players in their last game.

This is off topic but I want to say it anyway, the Vikings should have won the superbowl because of their amazing offense.

The Colts were a good offense and have some consideration for top 15 all time, but the Vikings set the record for points scored in a season, and are constantly left out of discussions for the top 10 all time.

I TOLD YOU.

The offense DID NOT score ALL those points. They only scored 348 points!

41 Passing TDs, and 17 Rushing TDs, for 58 total. That's 6 points each, for a grand total of 348.

Indianapolis had 51 Passing TDs and 10 Rushing TDs, for 61 total. At 6 points each, that's a grand total of 366 points.

Indy's offense outscored the Vikings offense, what don't you get?

And just an amazing offense doesn't win you a Super Bowl. If that was the case the Colts would be like 7 time repeating champs.

i am going to decline this throwdown. if this was tomorrow i think iwould do this. but real quick. what is your definition of overlooked? I am pretty sure they werent overlooked since they finished 15-1.

August 11, 2007  01:54 AM ET

Both these offenses were recognized. Especially the colts!!! Peyton broke the record!

August 11, 2007  02:10 AM ET

jesus christ. these teams went a combined 27-5. They didnt go un noticed. This TD should be about good offenses who went unnoticed because their defenses failed them. Ala every Bengals season since 02

August 11, 2007  02:15 AM ET

Most people who talk about offenses refer to the 49ers of old, the Greatest Show on Turf, yenno.

August 11, 2007  02:26 AM ET

Umm i said overlooked, The Colts Offense of 2004 was not ever looked over really, unlike the Vikings of 98.

August 11, 2007  02:39 AM ET

Not really?

I haven't heard it mentioned since 2005. It was like "Oh, Manning threw 49 TDs and had a godly year. Whatever"

Quite honestly people don't seem to really care.

August 11, 2007  03:26 AM ET

Anybody that payed attention to football knew both these offenses dominated. Hell, I was in fourth grade in 1998 and still knew the Vikings offense was rocking. I probably just won't vote...

August 11, 2007  09:18 AM ET

How about the Detriot Lions Last year? How about the Buffalo Bills in the 90's that got overshadowed by Dallas and the 49ers? How about Cincinnati for the past few years?

August 11, 2007  12:46 PM ET

That Colts offense was far from overlooked...vote to 1st argument.

August 11, 2007  01:27 PM ET

The Detroit Lions offense last year wasn't actually that good.

Sure, Kitna hit 4000 yards, but he barely hit 20 TDs, threw more INTs than TDs and their running game was a joke.

August 11, 2007  01:42 PM ET

Oh, and FYI Detroit was the #22 offense last year in yards, and #21 in points scored.

August 11, 2007  02:27 PM ET

Tell me, are you blind?

Did you not read what I posted in my first argument?

August 11, 2007  02:38 PM ET

No, Just Stupid, but the Vikings Offense was way more overlooked than the Colts was, so we're both kinda...Wrong?

August 11, 2007  02:39 PM ET

Haha, smooth.

Eh, who knows.

I seriously haven't heard a peep about the 2004 Colts since. . .their first game of 2005 >_>

August 11, 2007  02:40 PM ET

Really? I still hear alot about them in Corvallis.

August 11, 2007  02:56 PM ET

Neither of these were overlooked.
