I see Calvin Johnson being the most succesful rookie. The Lions were 2nd in Pass Attempts, Completions, and 5th in Yards in 06'. Kitna had a 62.8 Comp. %, and 4,000+ yards. CJ will more than likely be put at the #2 spot putting Furrey in the slot. Johnson is the biggest talent from the draft, and looking at Detroit's schedule, they dont play many teams that were stout against the pass in 06'. Johnson could put up at least 80 catches, 900-1,000 yards, and 5+ TD's.

The other two guys that I could think of right now that could be brought up are Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson. According to:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/fantasy/08/15/platoons0820/1.html

Lynch is expected to get about 60% of the carries with the A-Train getting 30%, and Wright being put in for the short yardage spots. Buffalo doesnt have the greatest OL in the NFL either, so the time that Lynch is in, he'll really have to fight for success. Peterson is expected to split with Taylor each getting 45%. Moore will get in for his pass catching abilities. Peterson and Lynch will have a lot less time on the field, & a lot less touches than Johnson who will be in a pass 1st offense.

Sorry for the wait my sons B-Day was yest!

Rookie of the Year- AD- All Day - Adrian Lewis Peterson,

Barring injury, Minny is going to run this man like a certain RB was run in Tampa a few years back- Minny has no Recivers not much of a QB and someone who is more than willing to be the face of the franchise- as they still are trying to get a new stadium and get past the boat scandal. Minny Has no identity and AD is willing to be that face and put that franchise on his back. The Vikings will let him run anytime and everytime he can to rollup stats and highlight reel footage.

1.ESPN loves this guy- almost every run he made was on SportCenter- and yes that matters- Calvin is going to be a monster receiver but he is not the qoute machine or the showman that AD is- Jerry wasn???t flashy either- and he???s in the hall of Fame so it???s not a knock on Calvin but it will cost him votes.
2.Running backs have won an astounding 30 out of 39 Offensive ROTY awards, or 77%- Gotta love tha stats when you are going RB vs WR.
3. Calvin???s a Millen pick, ask Roy how serious the media takes him when he makes his comments. Roy is going to be the face of that team.

ESPN loves Johnson as well. Mel Kiper was practically in love with CJ. All the hype leading up to the draft was focused on Johnson. I dont think the it will be that big a deal in the OROY voting.

Minnesota is obviously a run first team. And Chester Taylor is there starter. Minnesota is seemingly going to try and use both Taylor and Peterson equally. Peterson could get anywhere between 140-160 carries. Like you said, the Vikings dont have a great WR core. They dont have a reliable QB. So, they will be forced to rely on the run game a lot. And the opponents will know that. The DC's will ready their units to focus completely on the run game. Thus, Peterson and Taylor might not nearly be as effective. With the amount of carries and the amount of attention the run game will get by opponents in Minnesota, Peterson would be fortunate to get 700-800 Yards.

Johnson is in an offense that will light up the sky, but should have a much more productive run game than last season. Having Bell, Duckett, and Jones is why. So CJ and the WR's wont be focused on nearly as much as Peterson would be in Minnesota. CJ's #'s will be outstanding.

They both play in the NFC North and the Pass defense of CHI, Det and MIN are better than the Run Def of CHI, GB and Det.

and the Vickings don;t mind a grind it game as the QB is going to have problems.

The Lions are going to have to TRY to run the ball as they are only going to wear what little defense out. and you know Brett is going to get his yards where he can.

AD is used to seeing 8 in a box and if any WR at all can step up he is going to have an easier year. the Vikings have a cast of unknowns at WR but they are also young. Steve Smith wasn;t much as a rookie either. (/blas ph my)

Calvin has to catch the ball, meaning there is going to be safty help on every play as the Lions opponents know that they can stop Kevin with the front 7 and on 3rd down they can drop the MLB into coverage as well to stop Martz.

AD is going to crack 1200 yards easy- he may do it at 3.7 yards a carry but he is going to do it.

Calvin may make the same number of yards- even 1400 yards is not out of reach- but he is not going to get the same fanfare as a 1200 yard back.

Plus Peter King will put him on his all-time dream team and in the Hall of Fame.

RB 30 out of 39 winners

Out of the major Passing Categories for a defense: Completions Allowed, Attempts Allowed, Yards Allowed, TD's Allowed, and INT's Allowed, the only team to be inside the Top 10 in either of the first two categories is Green Bay (8th in Completions Allowed) Overall the NFC North is horrible vs Completions Allowed and Yardage Allowed. (Division Average NFL Ranking in Pass Yards Allowed: 22nd) Calvin Johnson and the WR's of the Lion's will soar against their division. As far as what the Vikings will sEe, both Chicago and GB are in the Top 15 in Rush Attempts, Rush Yards Allowed, and TD???s Allowed. The overall rush defense of the NFC North is much stronger than that of the NFC North???s overall pass defense. Johnson and the Lions wont have any problems racking up a large amount of receptions and yards. Peterson MAY be used to seeing 8 in the box, but in the NFL, every RB is used to it. The Vikings have only a run game, and the defenses will know that. Saying Peterson can get 1,200+ yards is the blasphemy. Chester Taylor got that in 303 carries in 06???, Peterson might see half of those carries. CJ is easily going to be more productive.

I am going with the stats that earned the last few players the trophy:

RB ??? (30 of 39 by the way) Williams
290 Carries 1178 Yards and 4.1 YPC 6TDs in 14 games

Last 2 receivers ( gotta go back awhile for this here)
Boldin
101 catches 1377 Yards 13.6YPC 8TDS in 16 games
Moss
1,313 yards and 17 TDs

To go back any further takes me to Carl Pickens WAY back in the day.

Williams can get 250 Carries and at a 4.5 clip gives him 1125 Yards and If Minny is going to get anything going he is going to do it. If Chester was such a good back and the Vikes were happy with him they would not have dropped a pick on him- with Brady and so many others still on the board, not like they don???t have other needs.

The Lions HAVE to spread the ball around and Calvin is going to get his share- but the last WR to take rookie of the year as a second banana was Moss and he had to drop 17tds to do it.

To Sum up

30 of 39 RB winners of the award- it is MUCH easier to take it from the RB spot than any other position ??? unless you think Lynch is taking it ??? AD is the #1 Back.

Calvin is not going to be Kitna???s #1 that Roy who is has a relationship entering year 2 with

Why isnt this on the "In Progress Page" yet?

August 19, 2007  11:30 PM ET

3b Calvin is coming in as a second banana is going to hurt him a little bit.

4. Don???t believe on AD splitting carries with ANYONE. The only way he???s not carrying the ball is if he gets hurt or Robert Smith makes a comeback.

August 20, 2007  01:47 AM ET

Peterson could not make it through an entire college season without getting hurt no way he makes it through an entire nfl season either. Peterson is a hoss but injuries could hamper his nfl career.

August 20, 2007  04:19 AM ET

THat's why I said barring injury,

If the injury bug hits everyone Johnathan Holland could win ROY

August 20, 2007  04:28 AM ET

Minnesota Vikings: Rookie running back Adrian Peterson has impressed in his first camp, and coaches say he might also be the team's best quarterback ??? Head coach Brad Childress left camp for a day to compete in a Gerald McRaney look-alike contest and took home first prize by beating Gerald McRaney ??? Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson will wear actual Viking horns on his helmet this season in hopes of making opposing defenses think twice about sacking him on every play.

August 20, 2007  11:39 PM ET

Gotta go with Mac...sharing carries scares me off.

August 21, 2007  12:49 AM ET

AD is the face of that Franchise and if he has to run 500 times to get something to make Minny fans happy he will do it and he will do it with a SMILE on his face.

August 21, 2007  01:32 AM ET

Isn't it "best" rookie, not rookie of the year? Either way neither of these guys will be the man on their team let alone the league. CJ has an all-pro on the other side. How many chances is he going to get? It's not like Peyton Manning is throwing to him. AP will only play 8-10 games cause he's sharing carries plus he's fragile.

August 21, 2007  11:57 AM ET

I gotta go with Calvin, he is going to be a good WR with the Lions, but the only reason I'm not going with Adrian Peterson is because he is sharing carries with Chester Taylor.

August 21, 2007  11:40 PM ET

I'm going to tie it up!!! YAY!!

August 22, 2007  12:11 AM ET

August 22, 2007  12:33 AM ET

Lovely...Less than 30 minutes left in this TD, and somehow 3 votes go to the other side.

August 22, 2007  12:34 AM ET

I think I'll tie it again!!!
