Here are the rules. You cant choose any of the players i do. You have to make a team that isnt just the best statistically but would work well together. It is not my team versus your team, just which team is the best (Example, the Mavs were the better team but the Warriors just matched up well with them)
Here are the resrictions. Neither of us get Jordan. Neither of us get both Magic and Bird. Finally go by how each player did in his repective era. Example, Shaq would destroy Wilt but because Wilt was more individually dominant he is the better individual player.
PG Magic Johnson (so you get Bird if you want him)
SG Jerry West. Mr Clutch could score, pass and most importantly defend.
SF Dr. J. The perfect wingman for Magic.
PF Tim Duncan. The best all around PF ever. He defends, scores, rebounds and knows how to win.
C Bill Russell. With all the scoring on my team i dont need another scorer so ill take the greatest defensive center and winner ever. Hes the perfect choice to start the fast break for magic.
If you have any questions ask in the comments section. I know its kinda complicated.

PG Pistol Pete-he is a great playmaker, passer and could score if he wanted to.
SG John Havlicek-he is arguably the greatest defender in the history of the game
SF Larry Bird-he can shoot, defend, and had some of the best instincts in NBA History
PF Karl Malone-he had the physique and strength of a bodybuilder and had the defense to back up his offense
C Wilt Chamberlain-arguably the best player not named Michael Jordan, his defense was in the same tier as Russell's but his offense is at a whole other level

Pistol Pete never was a winner. He was a great scorer and his passes amaze me but thats not what wins games. He was not a good defender and not a good team player. In his 2 full years in which they kept turnovers he averaged 4.5. That is horrible. Yes he was a fancy passer but never averaged over 7 assists a game. I can not see him leading any team to a championship. Magic was the greatst PG ever while Maravich isnt even top 5.
John Havlicek was NOT the greatest defender ever and he was a SF.
My team is full of winners and clutch players. Duncan and Russell were the two best defenders ever at their position. Wilts defense was not as good as Russells. My team could outrun everyone with Magic and Dr J, play half court offense with West and Duncan, and all were either tenacious defenders or long athletic guys who could read the passing lanes. Most importantly my team is full of winners.

your team 13
my team 23
Basically team play and defense is what wins championships and my team is better at both. Dont believe me ask Bill Russell, the greatest defender and winner in NBA history.

Who cares if players haven't won a championship. Just because a guy hasn't won a championship doesn't mean that he is not one of the best. Havlicek played both SG and SF. And my team will work like this:
Pistol Pete would be the playmaker and optional scorer. Sort of like Steve Nash. Havlicek would defend the teams main scoring option and be a mid-range scoring option. Larry Bird would be the teams main shooting threat and main outside scoring threat. Karl and Wilt would stop the opposition from getting layups on defense. On offense, Malone would be the high post scoring threat and be the main picksetter. Wilt would be the dominant low-post player.

I am just saying my players have proven they can win. yours havent at the same magnitude as mine have. Pete and Malone might be some of the best individuals but team play is vital here.
Heres how my team would work. On defense West would guard the PG with Magic and Dr J playing the wings. Duncan and Russell would play a standard frontcourt, just better defensively than yours (Malone was not a shot blocker 0.8 a game). Offensively like i said they would run when needed, with Russell's rebounding and shot blokcing starting the fast break, and Dr J fniishing it. mag ic and Dr J running a fast break is one of the scariest things an opponent wants to face. The halfcourt offense would run more through West, the primary scorer, and Duncan who can play both in the high and low post. Add Dr. J slashing and you have an extremely dominant offense.
As i said before the problem with your team is defense. Not that its bad just that its not as good as mine. Magic was a better defender than Maravich, Havlicek was better than West but not by much. Bird was better than Dr J but Dr J still averaged close to 2 blocks and 2 steals a game. Duncan and Russell were both definitely better than

Sometimes you don't have to be the best shot blocker in order to be a great defender. Karl Malone contained guys real well. My team could run, too. Pistol Pete could run the point and Karl and Havlicek could run the wings. For my defensive scheme, I would run a 2-3 zone with Havlicek and Pistol Pete out front, Bird would be on the block, however he would tend to play closer to the three pt. line. Malone would be assinged to the teams main low post threat, and would help Wilt stop guys from penetrating. Also, you mean to tell me that Duncan and Russell were better defenders than Malone and Wilt. I will give you the Malone one, however the Wilt one I will not. I've heard many stories saying he was so strong he could have SHATTERED a guys hand, but he refused to, because he was a really nice guy. I have respect for that.

Neither gets my vote, because somehow Oscar Robertson got left off of both teams.

Doesn't JOhn Stockton get any consideration? eaglemaniac, you have Stockton and Malone on your team, you have the greatest pick-and-roll combo in history. Which also translates as arguably the best guard-forward combo as well.

Vote to screamindemon. Listen, I'm one of the biggest Pistol Pete fans you'll ever meet but, unfortunately, in his pro career all but 2 or 3 years were terrible because he beat himself up mentally. I think the backcourt duo of Magic and West will work perfect together. I think Wilt dominated because he was head and shoulders above the rest (literally). No one (except a select few) were even close to him in height. erwin is right. If you had Stockton as your point guard I might have voted for you.
Anyways, very good creative throwdown as always, demon.

Havlicek the greatest defender ever? Nah. Certainly great, but not the greatest.
Chamberlain's incredibly dominant, but if I could choose one player to hold him down, it'd be Russell.
Pistol Pete had a couple outstanding seasons, but he struck me as more of a scorer and less of a distributor.
I would have gone with a triangle offense, and put Jordan, Bird, and Pippen on my team, with Russell at center. I probably would have gone with Magic or Stockton at the point.

what does strength have to do with good defense? Sorry i just dont get the connection between being able to crush a guys hand and defense. Anyways even though there were no defensive stats at that time Russell is considered by just about everyone who knows basketball to be a better defensive center than wIlt. im just going by what the experts say on the matter not my own personal opinion.
