Its true, the Tour de France is better than Nascar..

1st off Nascar is boring.. All they do is go round and round the same lap, over and over again, YAWN!!!
I know it has popular ratings in the States, but thats about it..
Formula One has a bigger following on the global scale..

The Tour is exciting because anyone who watches it is in sheer awe of their endurance..
The way the riders do mountain stage after mountain stage, it almost defies human logic how they can do this..
The Alps and the Pryenees have their own distinct personalities and excitement..

Then theres the specialists.. The super skinny mountain specialists, like Shleck and Armstrong, who race up the steep slopes faster than you can run..
Theres the timetrial specialists, like Contador and Levi Leiphemier..

If that doesnt grab your attention, the crashes in the Tour are far more bloody and gorier than Nascar.. Viewers can often see Broken arms and legs..
Every now and then someone dies after falling off a freakin mountain..

The Tour is better than Nascar!!!

The Tour de France lost all appeal after Armstrong stopped dominating. You say that NASCAR is boring and to a lot of people you are right. But they are going 200 M.P.H compared to like 40 M.P.H.
You say the Tour de France has specialists... So does NASCAR their is Superspeedway specialists, restrictor plate specialists, short track specialists, and road course specialists.
The Alps and Pyrenees have different personalities in the same way that every track has a different personality, you can't drive a short track like Daytona and you can't set your car up for Talledega if Sears Point is up next.
How are the crashes gorier in cycling when a car broadsides another car going 180 m.p.h, slams into a wall, spins while other cars are flashing by it, and it flips three times... Then leaks gas onto the ground right next to an open fire. Go tell all the drivers that have been tackled while being on fire that their sport is less gory than Lance's because he skinned his knee. And don't pull the death card. NASCAR has made it less deadly while the Tour apparently can't figure out guard rails and nets.

The Tour de France did not lose all its appeal after Lance.. IF ANYTHING IT MADE IT MORE EXCITING!!
Now you have a Tour that is more unpredictable.. Who will win Andy Schleck or Contador???
Who will get the last podium spot, Levi or Sanchez??
Will Lance give us one last moment of magic and win a mountain stage?
Will there be more crazy cyclists that will start head butting their way to victory?

Theres plenty of headlines left on the tour..

My main problem with Nascar is its the same thing over and over again..
All they do is go round and round and round the EXACT same lap..
YAWN!!

At least when I am watching NASCAR I know that they aren't juicing. I tried after Lance quit the first time I really did. And when Landis crossed the line, I was just as happy as every time Lance did. And that magical moment came across the ESPN ticker saying "Floyd Landis has tested positive for an illegal substance."
You wanna talk unpredictability? Cars in NASCAR are almost the exact same with the exception of the sticker on the front. So talent comes out on top. And when two dominant figures are on a team, they drive against each other and it is totally acceptable. Contador and Armstrong shared team last year and Americans thought Contador was being a dilhole because he wouldn't help Armstrong win, while everyone else thought Armstrong was being a dilhole for expecting a world class cyclists to take a backseat.
"My main problem with Nascar is its the same thing over and over again"
So is the tour. It's a bunch of guys in awkwardly tight clothes in a tight pack going up a hill, or down a hill. Yes they don't repeat the same stretch of land 200 times, but it isn't like they are hitting jumps or anything. It's a road that looks the same as the road they just passed.

Nascar drivers dont need to juice cause they aren't (compared to other sports), exerting huge amounts of energy.. Its the same reason why golfers dont juice, cause there is no obvious advantage..
Yes, there is a temptation to use performance enhancing drugs when you are cycling the alps/pryennees 4 times in 5 days, (which is waht they are about to do).. soooo???
In any physically exerting sport, tennis, NFL, NBA, Hockey, MLB, etc etc.. There is going to be a temptation to use performance enhancing drugs.. Thats life..
The noice thing about cycling is that they are cracking down hard on people who cheat..
Its what makes Lance Armstrongs feat of 7 tour wins that much more impressive.. The fact that he did it clean..

watching nascar is like watching a gerbal run around in its spinning wheel, over and over again..
YAWN!!!

The Tour is not the same thing over again!! Theres the sprint finishes.. The stunning surges up the mountain by Andy schlek! The head butting by a crazy aussie! Will Levi produce an amazing time trial and finish 3rd? Will armstrong produce one last magical moment and win a mountain stage, (which I think he will, he has 4 chances)

Tour>Nascar!!!!

You keep saying that NASCAR is boring for doing to same thing over and over again. But cycling is no more exciting. At least in NASCAR it isn't 95% of the race spent in a pack with your team. There are sprint finishes in NASCAR too. A guy skipped a pit stop and is running on fumes and crosses the line with no gas left. He was racing a guy that went with 2 tires over 4 and is not at the same speed. The "stunning" surges made by every driver with half a nut in his sack. You use the headbutting thing like it adds and edge to the sport. Guys will put a driver in the wall in the last lap to win a race and no one bats and eye. What would the cycling community do if Contador kicked Lance Armstrong 2 miles from the finish? Would they celebrate his win like they do in NASCAR after Kyle Busch puts another guy out? It doesn't matter what they do to a roider, they will still try to roid. But in NASCAR, I know that every championship J.J. won is his. Plus, NASCAR uniforms look awesome compared to cyclists. NASCAR unis=flame retardant cycling unis=Just flaming.

I agree.

Less head-butting in NASCAR, but more crashes.

Not sure about more crashes in NASCAR.

I don't watch it, but the highlights always show crashes.

I've too never watched it, but in the Tour de France, there is usually around 3 crashes a race. I didn't think NASCAR had 3+

I didn't realize three people have died in the Tour, and most recently in '95.

ha ha.. That guy was nuts!!!

It wasn't that much of a head butt. It was just a bit of contact to tell him to stay in his line, and get out of his.

I don't think he deserved to be kicked out.

You are dumb as hell...

You'll probably win the argument and lose the TD, HighwayCrossingFrog.

July 16, 2010  05:08 PM ET

I personally think NASCAR is 100000093746234626597234x better, but I think it is dumb to argue one sport is better than another.

The Tour De France is wayyyyyyyyyy better!

July 16, 2010  06:34 PM ET

Good luck HCF.

I think he got kicked out for the infringement that he did a few seconds later not for the headbutt. The way he looked then faded over into Farrier's lane to help Cavendish's chances got him kick out.

NASCAR drivers are way more athletic than cyclists.

I wouldn't say that, but they are definitely not what people think.

Their are so many crashes in NASCAR. So many that teams bank on crashes for pit strategy.

I don't consider Nascar a sport.....no offense

I don't even really like NASCAR. So no offense taken. But everyone has a different opinion on sports, so I just go with "If ESPN covers it, it can be in a sports discussion."
