I would have to go with Yaz .... Carl Yastrezemski...The Last man to win the triple crown 1967 - 44 HR 121 RBI .326 BA

Babe Ruth.
Over his 5 seasons with large amounts of innings pitched he had a 2.28 ERA while averaging 17 wins a season and 233 innings.
He also went 3-0 with 31 innings pitched and an absurd 0.87 ERA in World Series play.
He also had 49 homer runs during this same time.
He also was the best baseball player EVER!
Foosball said 08/23, 09:50 AM
Babe Ruth, as you said, only played for 5 years for Boston primarily as a pitcher. And although he won 89 over 6 seasons (1914-1919) he is remembered as being a Yankee! He is in the Hall of Fame as a Yankee!
Yaz played his entire career for the Red Sox - 23 Seasons with 3419 Hits and 452 HR's all as a Red Sox. And is in the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox!
Jazinho said 08/23, 09:58 AM
Babe Ruth played 6 seasons for the Red Sox. He thus qualifies as a Red Sox player. That being the case it has to be him since he was the best player of all time.
He was also part of 3 World Series winning Red Sox teams. That's 3 more than Yaz. Championships count.
Foosball said 08/23, 10:09 AM
True but Babe Ruth will always be remembered as 1 a Yankee and 2 a hitter. Not as a Red Sox and a pitcher.
How many players can you say played more than 20 seasons and have played there entire career with one team? Yaz 23 seasons all with the Red Sox...
Yaz is an 18-time all-star, the won 7 gold gloves, a member of the 3000 hit club, and was the first ALplayer in that club to also accumulate over 400 home runs.
Yaz is the Red Sox all-time leader in career RBIs, runs, hits, singles, doubles, total bases, games played, and is 2nd on the list for home runs behind another Red Sox great, Ted Williams.
Jazinho said 08/23, 10:15 AM
I'm sorry, but you didn't mention "have played there entire career with one team" in the original argument. Yaz was great, there is no arguing that. But Babe was better!
It was not a coincidence that Boston won 3 Championships while he was there and when he left they stopped winning Championships.
The Babe won the Boston Red Sox rings.

Jazinho | 08/23/07, 09:59 AM
Report Offensive CommentCy Young only played 8 of his career 21 seasons for the Red Sox before playing in Cleveland for his final 2 years. He won 192 games for the Red Sox of his career 511 wins.
Foosball | 08/23/07, 10:02 AM
Report Offensive CommentRuth, Young are both better than Yaz. If you only wanted to argue greatest red sox player other than williams who played their entire career for the Sux (sorry, I mean Sox) than you should have specified that.

Report Offensive CommentI was up 7-0 and then he went on an 11-2 run so the momentum has shifted it appears...
The entire career thing wasn't mentioned so I figure Babe is fair game to be in this argument.
Jazinho | 08/23/07, 10:10 AM
Report Offensive CommentI don't think Babe Ruth's 6 years with the Sox outweigh the accomplishments of Yaz.
Basketball Jesus: CHAMPION! | 08/23/07, 10:11 AM
Report Offensive CommentIt wasn't the greatest Boston player to play his whole career with the Red Sox... it was the "greatest Red Sox player"... it's either Ruth or Young.
powersj13 BS | 08/23/07, 10:12 AM
Report Offensive CommentRuth and Young's Red Sox stats count for their careers so they should count in this argument.
rstowe - The NMI Emperor | 08/23/07, 10:15 AM
Report Offensive CommentRuth will always be remembered as a Yankee. And Cy Young played more seasons with other teams than the Red Sox...He is not really remembered as a Red Sox as he played most of his career in Cleveland.
Foosball | 08/23/07, 10:15 AM
Report Offensive Commentit dont matter if he played 1 year with he bo sox he still played wit them

Report Offensive CommentBasically the argument here is between Yaz and Ruth. Who was the better 'RED SOX'? Ruth is barely remembered as a Red Sox. His name the Sultan of Swat and the Home Run King all comes from his Yankee days. He is a Yankee and will always be remembered as Yankee. Between the 2 of them and the question of who is the 'Greatest Red Sox' it's Yaz.
Bubbles | 08/23/07, 10:45 AM
Report Offensive CommentWho is the greatest Red Sox.... I would say Babe... no one has influenced the Red Sox History more than Babe. 3 Championships.... and the arguement no one associates Babe with the BoSox isnt true. The Curse of the Bambino definately associates the two in history.
southpaw510 | 08/23/07, 01:10 PM
Report Offensive CommentAgain Babe will always be thought of as a Yankee.
Yaz is the Red Sox all-time leader in career RBIs, runs, hits, singles, doubles, total bases, games played, and is 2nd on the list for home runs.
