The Fedex Cup is a shamless attempt to prop up four end of season events ; and if Sabbitini wins the 1st leg to take a lead over Tiger, it is doomed.
Larry B said 08/23, 07:13 PM
The FEDEX Cup is trying to "throne" a PGA champion based on performance in 4 end of season minor tournaments ignoring the Majors; ignoring the money list; and ignoring performance during the PGA Season; and even ignoring the FEDEX points earned during the season. It is an affront to all top notch players, especially Tiger Woods, and the resetting of points to bunch the competition is unfair and shameful. The lack of real prize money makes this an even bigger sham.We have world rankings that are proven and which rank to top players already. To create a "throned season champion" is confusing to fans, and the process and formula by which it is done is flawed on multiple levels.

I disagree first of all people like Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia and others love the competition cuz its only the best players in the world that make it this far and the competition only gets tougher with players gettin eliminated by round, also the major winners have been rewarded with lots more points, AGAIN ur wrong becuz the winner recieves a nice $10 million dollar check.
Larry B said 08/23, 10:28 PM
The winner does not get a $10 million check --- this is an annuity retirement credit which he cannot get for many many years. Toger does not like the format but he could win by winning 1 tournament - and just fininishing in the top 5 in theother 2 Furyk thinks the format stinks and is unfair. Do you realise that the winner of the Cuo does not even have to win in the last tournament - in fact, the winner may not even have to play in the last tournament - there is no drama here - no competition
#1 TW fan said 08/24, 05:17 PM
ok but still hows $10 million to sit on when you retire either way thats a ton of money and they may think its flawed but its the first year, besides that, this makes wins more important than anything without a win you wont win the cup.so overall i think they have done a good job it will improve, its hard to make a playoff system in golf becuz theres only 1 winner out of thousands of players, also i think it gives the players an extra incentive during the season
Larry B said 08/24, 07:26 PM
It is the basis of your argument that is flawed. You mention mention playoff system as though the winner of the Cup is the Tour Champion for the year and that is just inaccurate. An analogy might be to have a superbowl and we crown the superbowl winner --and the following week, we have 6 teams play a round robin tournament to see who is #1. I do not mind the Cup so much --- the money incentive is good - but to equate it someone with crowning a champion that is meaningful - I think that is wrong.
#1 TW fan said 08/25, 12:29 PM
I understand your argument but this is the first year of the Cup it will improve, no playoff system is perfect especially the first season. Another thing is, all the players that people never hear of that have consistant top 20 or top 10 finishes have a chance to prove themselves. Another thing is no other player has a chance of dethroning Tiger anytime soon so this will give players like Jim Furyk and K.J. Choi a chance to win some kind of title, im not sayin this will make them #1 by any means but at least they have a chance

"the resetting of points to bunch the competition is unfair and shameful." It's done in every sport. NASCAR being the most obvious example, as that is the model the Fed Ex Cup is based on, but every sport effectively resets the standings in the playoffs. Should a 14-2 team be given a three-TD lead in a playoff game against a 11-5 team?

does anyone really believe that if somebody other than Tiger wins this Cuo that they are the best??? The Nextel Cup awards the best in NASCAR --- The PGA already have a formula for doing so --- it's called the workld rankings --- the money list --- the Majors --- This Cup is superfluous

People like some kind of ending to the season and they are just giving that to the public.

Lol if sabitini takes over first place in the Competition Tiger will win the next three. there is no way he would allow sabittini the Justification of that after the remarks he has made all season. so really it may make for some great golf. plus they are gonna be playing there anyways might as well try to make it more interesting.

Buchy they may want an ending the sesson but this is not it Do you realize that Tiger could win thie Cup and not even play in the final two events --what kind of ending is that? No, this system and this format is flawed badly

If Rory wins this Cup and starts barking - I predict 50% of the top players will boycott the cup next year. Sabbitini is a loud mouth and he is despised by most on tour for his rediculous remarks ----the guy has no class and fewer brains --- and when it comes down to crunch time =--he chokes

yeah it is the world rankings that count they r not trying to make this a championship that defines the best, the team that wins the final four isnt always the best, the team that wins the super bowl isnt always the best the team that wins the finals arnt always the best the team that wins the world cup isnt always the best

Think about the following scenario for a moment. What if Tiger wins all 4 majors - Masters - US Open - British Open - and PGA - all in the same year. Suppose further that he is the leading money winner by a factor of 3-1. Now along comes the FEDEX Cup and aTiger sits out becasue (1) he is tired; and (2) he preparing to lead the Ryder Cup Team. Suppose someone like Rory Sabbitini wins the Cup ---is he now the "champion" for the year? They are putting way too much hype of "crowning a champion" I think it taks away from the other traditional ways of ranking the player of the year.

I believe you will find that more and more premier players will begin to skip some of these cup tournaments --- and then you will not have the top players competing -it will become a second tier event. And if the following is not there with attendance and TV ratings, look for the prize money to dry up. I give this 2 years and then over and out ---- Golf is not meant to have a playoff system like this ----Once golf fans realize that this sham is just marketing by the Tour, it will diminish in stature and attendance. Good idea for some lesser known people to win some money - that is all that it is. For me, I will stay with the 4 majors and the Players Championship for my playoffs - and then watch # of wins in a season and the money list each year.
Stay tuned though - I predict Rory Sabbitini is going to shoot off his mouth and really create a controversy among the players...
