I think they should becuase he knows the Oriole way and he understands the ball players. I know he wont turn the team completely around but he might contribute. He can work with the C and the OF. He can help improve players like Jay Gibbons and Nick Markakis... and possibly Kevin Millar

You pretty much stated exactly why they should not hire Surhoff as a coach. You said he wont turn the team around. An organization isnt going to pay someone to help two or three positions. They are going to hire someone who they are sure will make a great impact on the team. Yes, BJ understands Baltimore, yes, he might be able to help improve a few position players. But should the Orioles hire a guy to help improve two, maybe three guys? No.

But a Manager wont directly impact a team ever.... U can have a single A team in the MLB managed by Joe Torre, Sparky Anderson, or whoever. Most likely no playoffs for you
CJBOSOX said 08/25, 11:48 PM
I have absolutley know idea what that last statement is trying to say. However I can respond to the Single-A Joe Torre thing. Obviously you could put the best coaches on a Single-A team and they wouldnt do crap. Its basically all of the not-superior-signed out of college players. Thats pretty obvious. In response to your comment about how bad Crowley is, I say this: Yes, Crowley is a problem...but are you suggesting that they replace Crowley with Surhoff. I'm sure that would work out well! Also, you cant say its Crowley's fault they havent made the playoffs in so many years, or that they havent been over .500. Look at the fact that your organization has signed in the past few years some big name guys that have not produced. Also for the organizations failure to trade guys that COULD have made good deals before people realized that they just arent producing.

If we added Surhoff as a coach wouldnt that be the same thing as hiring him to coach in some form.... So if u agree y r u arguing it
CJBOSOX said 08/25, 11:56 PM
I dont agree. I said that Crowley isnt at fault for the O's problems, and that is why you shouldnt replace him with Surhoff. You shouldnt hire Surhoff at all because there is no place for him right now, and if they do fire Crowley then they should find someone with experiance as a hitting coach if they want to get any better. Sorry if my statements about Crowley threw you off, but please make note that I never said that Surhoff should be part of the Baltimore Orioles Coaching Staff.

Report Offensive CommentSurhoff is a Richard Head. However, he'll still be a better hitting coach then Terry Crowley.

Report Offensive CommentCrowley's a horrible hitting coach. I remember when they had a very talented offense in 2004 and constantly got shut out by Tampa Bay. If you don't think, a coaching change makes any difference, why did the White Sox fire Jerry Manuel? They actually won 3 fewer games the following year with Ozzie at the helm.
