Ok here is the TD
You are taking over a new NFL Franchise and you can take any 3 players you wan't from any NFL team to build your team. Who would your first 3 players be.
CB Darrelle Revis- Easy choice you build your defense around the corners. Reason's why are because if you have a shutdown CB that means the other teams #1 WR is on lockdown which means you can stack 8 in the box to stop the run. A stud corner not only helps your pass D but your run D as well. Revis is the best in the game.
QB Aaron Rodgers- Star player and is still very young. Could be a franchise guy for another 10 years for my team. He has MVP talent and having a stud QB is a recipe for sucsess.
LT- Joe Thomas- Without an O-line your team is nothing. You need a solid o-line to have a good offense and the best way to build up a great O-line is to have a great left tackle. LT is the most important offensive line position in the game which is why you wan't a great young and durable LT. Thomas hasnt missed a game ever. He's made the pro-bowl all 3 of his seasons and is only 25. He will anchor my O-line for years to come.
Thats how i would start to build my franchise.

Shoots sounds cool.
CB- Nnamdi Asomugha, this guy doesn't shut down one person, he shuts down one side of the field. Despite the popularity of Revis because he was on a playoff team, Asomugha has held it down for the Raiders and has been a great help on run support and shut down anyone lining up vs him. And don't give me this Aso vs top reciever nonsense, Aso stays on his side of the field and shuts it down, he doesn't move with the #1 WR (until this year supposedly) On a side note Aso has said that when he loses a step in his later years 6-7 years he wants to go back to his college position of safety, so you get a dual threat guy.
QB- Same. Rodgers is a beast.
DT- Darnell Dockett, The guy is good. He stuffs the run, and rushes the QB. The focal point of the defense I believe is more important than the LT. Dockett had 7 sacks last year as well as an INT, think it was a fluke? he's picked off 4 passes in his career, and deflected 12. He's powerful and fast perfect for catching any speedy RBs trying to run.
as Rodgers showed last year a crappy line doesn't make the QB crappy.
Defense wins championships. ask the saints, giants and steelers. last 3 SB winners

Revis vs. Aso
Both are absolute great players. No doubt, i like Revis better for a few reasons. Revis covers the number 1 reciever at all times. Aso as you said only plays one side of the field. Revis is blanketing your number 1 guy all day while Aso will only be covering him when he lines up on Aso's side.
The second is age. Revis is only 25, Aso is 29. Both are still young but i should be able to get more years and better production out of Revis for a longer period of time. Not to mention even though everybody knows how good Revis is he still had 6 picks to Aso's 1.
DT vs. LT
Can't compare players so compare position importance. I wan't to protect my franchise QB's blindside and Joe Thomas will do just that. O-line is very important to your offense's sucsess, It's the anchor.
With my pick in Revis he will shut down the pass game and since he won't need saftey help on his receiver this allows my team to stack 8 in the box to further protect the run which is why i don't need a stud DT. I need a stud LT to help protect my QB from getting destroyed and Joe Thomas is a great start to building a fantastic O-Line.

Not much i can say with a forfeited turn...
I'd rather start to build up a great O-Line with LT Joe Thomas than build up a great D-Line with Darnell Docket. Simply i want my franchise QB to play for great and remain healthy. In order for Rodgers to do that he is going to need some help on O-Line specificially LT and Joe Thomas is the right guy for the job. He is excellent and durable. Not to mention is young. He and Rodgers will last.
Revis is my guy on the corner. He is the best in the game. All teams knew how great Revis and Aso both are and QBs rarely threw to either's side. (Literally for Aso) yet Revis came away with 6 picks and Aso came away with 1 last season. Revis has had better production the past two years and is younger.
Can't really argue anyhting else.

I have never heard of anyone drafting a SS/CB in the first round, I could be wrong.
If Rodgers was picked by the Niners, could he have done better than Alex Smith with no WRs and a weak offensive line to work with?

I didn't mean for the players chosen of this to be in order, this TD is not meant to be a draft your simply handpicking 3 players from any team so in essence your plucking away any player you wan't to start to build your team.
And c'mon your going to make that argument? Maybe its not a matter of weapons maybe Rodgers has elite NFL talent and Smith doesn't

Easy choice you build your defense around the corners.
Never. I don't care how good your corners are, if the opposing QB has time, he'll beat them. You build a defense from the line up. A run stuffing front 3 or 4 with a couple of stud pass rushing defensive ends or linebackers will negate any need for a 'shutdown' corner and will make the corners and safeties job much easier.
Last years pro bowls featured both of the Cowboys corners starting the game. They can thank Demarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer for that.

A shutdown corner makes the front 7 jobs much easier.
With a shutdown corner in Revis i can then stack 8 in the box because i don't need saftey help when you have 8 in the box it makes running very difficult. Also with a shutdown corner i can leave my corner 1 on 1 in man coverage and blitz the QB like crazy. Having a shutdown CB leaves me with a lot of defensive options.
Its all how you look at it.

Asomugha Over Revis is what made my vote easy. reevis is good but NOT THE BEST IN THE GAME.

Revis can only cover 1 guy. Who is going to help on the other side and cover the TE? The RB? If a QB has time, he'll find an open receiver. Your one CB can't cover everyone. A collapsing pass rush, however, forces the QB to make a quicker decision often leading to mistakes no matter who the CB's are.
You aren't putting 8 in the box if you are using linebackers to help in coverage on the TE and RB. Look at the Packers-Vikings games last year, Woodson shut down Rice for all intents and purposes but Favre still ate them alive because he had time.

There are VERY few instances in todays game where a defense would put 8 guys up front anyhow. The NFL is a passing league in this day and age. Damn near every team has a good pass catching TE these days and a bunch of teams run 3 receiver sets on any down and distance. 3rd and short or goal line situations are about the only time you'll see a stacked box anymore.

Why would you want to build you d around a selfish ****h013 like Revis. And I would have taken Schaub over Rodgers unless you are going for an overated qb. PPL NEED TO GET OFFHIS JOCK!!!
Bucc it and Bucc you…

Agree with C-C-C again. Must be a full moon coming.
A shutdown CB is nice but a couple of studs on DL make the secondary's job a lot easier.

Waiting on further arguments but leaning right since he has a stud DT.

Not my team. My defense. Having a corner that can put a reciever on an island gives you so many options.
This now allows me to bring 5 to 6 guys no problem. This also allows my SS to be on the TE all day and the FS to either double team the other WR or i can use the FS to then cover a deep to mid zone to whatever side Revis isn't on.
