To me, this is a tough choice. Both produced HOFers and some great players, but to me, I think the 1984 NBA Draft was better.
The NBA Draft not only produced some HOFers, made the greatest at their positions. MJ is arguably the best player ever, Stockton one of the greatest PGs, Barkley one of the greatest PFs, and Hakeem one of the best centers.
And the draft also had a great coach in Rick Carlisle.
It's hard to argue against the players produced. And something that helps the NFL Draft is that they had 330+ picks. That's 100 more picks than the NBA Draft and a lot more talent possible. They SHOULD produce some great players.
My draft led to 53 all-star game appearances, 46 All-NBA selections, and 23 All-Defensive team selections.
And on the non statistical side of things, this draft further saved the NBA. Coming off of Bird-Magic, these guys stepped up when they left and were the stars during possibly the NBA's most popular time period ever.
The NBA Draft changed the landscape of basketball for a long time and is the better draft of the two

yes, the nfl had more picks...BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE POSITIONS AND BIGGER ROSTERS
plus, the nba has the advantage in individual awards bc your players play BOTH ways. offense & defense.
So lets look at 83 NFL draft
2 of the top 10 QBs of alltime.
Eric Dickerson- top 10 RB of alltime
Bruce Mattews (arguably the best OG of alltime, who also made probowl as C)
Jim kelly (top level qb)
Darrel Green (top 3 DB of alltime)
Roger Craig (1st rb to get 1000yds rush&rec same year.....key player in 49er dynasty)
Reggie Roby (one of greatest punters of alltime)
Richard Dent (dl on 85 bears defense)
Mark Bortz (blocked for some guy named Walter Payton)
Mark Clayton (wr -dolphins)
Jesse Sapolu (the center for much of the 49er dynasty)
Karl mecklenberg (awesome LB for Broncos)
remember, in the NBA you play 2 ways. So a guy can get recognition (hall of fame/all star) for offense OR defense)
in the NFL you play 1 way.
its hard to argue against Jordan....but the 84 draft is top heavy
OVERALL the 83 NFL draft had better talent across the board.
MANY role players on historic teams
85 bears, the 49er dynasty

If you want to include role players, then let me add some players while I'm at it
Sam Perkins - great 17 year career. good role player
Alvin Robertson - won DPOY award and averaged 14, 5, and 5 in his career
Kevin Willis - won 1 title, voted to AS game, and played for 21 years
That's at least 7 quality players with great careers out of this draft. And while it may seem top heavy, that's simply because they had far too many rounds. 12 rounds in an NBA draft is unnecessary, so it's hard to make a comparison of top heavy and what not.
What I do know that great players in my list where all top 25 players of all-time. Think about that. 4 of the 25 greatest players ever in the same draft.
This draft turned around many different franchises and shaped the NBA for the late 80s and most of the 90s.

you can say the same for the nfl draft and how it changed MORE franchises
Elway WAS the face of the Broncos
Kelly WAS the Bills
Marino WAS the Dolphins
Green WAS the gold standard for DBs
Matthews WAS (and still is) the gold standard for OL
Roby WAS the gold standard for punters
Eric Dickerson is a top 10 RB, top 5 in some minds
as for role players:
Roger Craig had WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more success than your 3 nba role players
as did Richard Dent, Karl Mecklenberg, Mark Bortz and Mark Clayton
again....not dissing Jordan, he is THE best alltime
But Hakeem is NOT the best center
Many people wouldnt even put him top 5
.................easily ahead of him
Hakeem in his prime is comparable to Shaq in his prime and David Robinson in his prime
anyway, good TD

I honestly think that, in terms of how it changed a league, my draft just did more.
The league was nearing the end of the Bird-Magic years by the time these guys really started to hit their primes. When Magic unexpectedly went down, MJ was right there to take over the spotlight
Honestly, the fact of the later 80s and early 90s of the NFL was the Cowboys for one and the 49ers. Only one of your guys had anything to do with that, and he was nothing more than a complementary player.
My guys were the face of the league in the entire 90s. All 4 of my superstars went to the NBA Finals and 2 of them won at least one.
One is considered the greatest passer ever
One is considered the greatest defensive center ever
One is considered one of the greatest rebounds ever
One is considered the greatest player ever
So while I admit mine is slightly top-heavy, the top of mine is just far and away better than yours.

jordan/hakeem/stockton do indeed cancel out marino/elway/matthews
but Eric Dickerson was a better RB than Barkley was a bball player
Dickerson is ALWAYS listed top 10 at his position...Barkley...maybe top 10 for eating at KFC and mispronouncing every word in the english language
and stockton has the stats....but EVERYONE and thier cousin would take magic over him anyday. even stockton's mom would pick magic over stockton
Bruce matthews IS the gold standard of interior linemen
DarrylGreen: arguable top 5 CB of alltime....Reggie Roby....top 3 punters alltime, most say #1
but you cant say that willis was a top 50 bball player of alltime....
And truthfully....I would say Roger Craig and Richard Dent were more than just role players.
Montana isnt montana w/o Craig being a 100yd a year runner and the best catching RB of his ERA
And richard dent didnt get the fame like THE FRIDGE or Walter payton or that crazy qb with the headband...but he held down the interior of one of the greatest defenses in NFL history
awesome td man
