Much to my surprise when I woke up this morning I found the new AP poll had Michigan at 20. Aparently, beating a non ranked ND team puts you ahead of 3 teams that are also 2-0.
So lets breakdown why Michigan was ranked. Before the season started and all the predictions and everything is flying around our friends at ESPN decided to talk up UCONN. Everyone picked UConn to win the Big East for the first time ever and beat WVU and PITT. UConn to me sounded like a strange pick considering how good Pitt was suppose to be in the backfield and that they are suppose to have a top reciever or how WVU was returning a crazy amount of starters and the only X factor being a highly recruited QB in his second season (remember preseason).
So, an overated UConn squared off against UM and lost giving UM a "good" win against a "ranked" team. Next, UM faces a unranked rival of ND. A team that has done..."nothing" in the last 5 years. UM takes care of business and because of these two "amazing" wins UM gets ranked above Houston Arizona, and WVU and a couple of 1 loss teams. Not that it matters but cbssports.com has Michigan ranked 14th.

Not sure where you are getting your information, but I believe you are misguided....
1) The AP poll as of September 12, 2010 has the University of Michigan ranked at #26 with (71 points), Utah is ranked #20 with (365 points).
2) The USA Today poll has Michigan ranked #35 with (17 points); Utah is ranked #20 with (371 points).
So, you are wrong when you started your TD with the statement that Michigan is ranked in the top 20 in the AP poll.

Maybe I am somehow really confused but doesnt that say the AP Top 25 and have Michigan at 20th?
20 Michigan 2-0 437
21 West Virginia 2-0 197
22 Penn State 1-1 171
23 Houston 2-0 169
24 Arizona 2-0 138
25 Oregon State 0-1 75
What you talked about looks like last weeks.
2010 NCAA Football Rankings - Week 2 (Sept. 5)
Others receiving votes: Michigan 71
20 Utah 1-0 365
