There have been a lot of poor trades in the history of Philadelphia Sports, and I thought about quite a few, but ended up choosing a more modern one that really cost the Phillies. Before the '82 Season the Phillies were in need of a fielding shortstop, and the Cubs were shopping Ivan DeJesus who looked to fit the bill. In order to get DeJesus the Phils traded declining SS Larry Bowa, and a young 3B you may have heard of by the name of Ryne Sandberg.
DeJesus would go on to play just 2 seasons with the Phils batting .245 and hitting 7 homeruns in his time in Philly. Sandberg would go on to play 14 years of amazing Third Base at Wrigley for the Cubbies and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.
The worst trade in Philadelphia Sports History was Ivan DeJesus from the Cubs for Larry Bowa and Ryne Sandberg.

Sorry about the wait. Today was my first day of school. I'll respond nightly.
The worst trade in Philly sports history was when the Sixers traded Moses Malone AND the 1st overall pick in the 86 draft to the Cavs for Roy Hinson, Jeff Rutland, and Clifford Robinson. No player the Sixers got lasted more than 3 years in a Sixer uni. The first overall pick from this draft was Brad Daugherty, who became a solid FIVE time all-star for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Moses had his best years in Philadelphia and the Sixers got maximum value for him when they traded him, as he was at the peak of his career. Moses never averaged more Minutes, Points, or Rebounds per game in a single season after he left Philadelphia. Ryne Sandberg on the other hand never had a chance in Philadelphia and blossomed into a 8-time Gold Glove Hall of Famer with another club.
Brad Daugherety was a regular at the all-star game, but had the Sixers held onto Malone, they would have had little use for another big man, and likely would have drafted Len Bias who went second overall to the Celtics and died of a cocaine overdose shortly thereafter.

The Sixers traded Malone when he was near the end of the prime of his career, which means he was still in his prime. They traded him to the Bullets in a three way deal, something I forgot to mention in my last arguement. The Bullets still got some out of Moses though. In the 86-87 campaign, Moses got 24 points and 11 rebounds and got a spot on the All-NBA second team that year. What they got in return was a bench player in Cliff Robinson and an injured Jeff Rutland. If the Sixers would have kept this pick, they would have gotten Chuck Person, the ROY from that class.

I'll certainly give you that the Moses trade wasn't a good one for Philadelphia, but to claim it as the worst in the history of Philadelphia is craziness. The sixers got 3 of best years of Moses Malone's career out of him before they unloaded him, Ryne Sandberg was never even given a chance to prove himself in Philadelphia before they unloaded him.
The Phillies trade of Sandberg cost them immensely, if they had had Sandberg playing at second base in '93 instead of Mickey Morandini they may have beaten the Blue Jays in that World Series. Also the years of mediocrity surrounding the '93 season could have been made easier to face for Phils fans had they had a perennial All-Star in the infield, and they likely would have won a boat load more games.
The Sixers still made the playoffs 4 of the next 5 seasons after trading away Moses Malone, the Phils only made the Playoffs 1 of the next 11 seasons after trading away Ryne Sandberg before even giving him a shot in Philly, those numbers speak for themselves.

I should have said this in my first arguement, but that trade was so bad it wasn't even funny, so I had to start with the second worst one.
When the Sixers traded Malone, they got nada in return, but the Bullets got 2-3 good years out of him. Heck, they were stupid for trying to get Rutland. He should have been retired by the time the Sixers got him.

Arcele, Sandberg ended up playing 2B for the Cubs, not 3B.
