i think ichiro will get 3000 hits by the end of his career

ichiro is going to get 3000 hits. Ichiro has gotton atleast 200 hits every year of his career and he is very close to getting 200 this year. He has already passed the halfway mark of 1500. Also he is one of the fastest players in the mlb, and since he is so fast he can turn a soft grounder to 3rd into a single. Another thing is that since he is not a power hitter and because he is a threat when hes on base he will not be walked intentionally by pitchers giving him enough at bats to get hits. Also over the years Ichiro has not shown any hint of aging because of his consistancy at the plate by hitting over 300 every year including this year, and getting 200 hits every year wiith no sign of slowing down

Ichiro...the guy who brought Japanese baseball into the forefront in the U.S. The fastest player ever to 1,500 hits.

If this was his actual sixth season, and not his 15th at a professional level, I might agree with you.

Ichiro turns 34 in October, and has been getting paid to swing since he was 18. Now, the guy can flat-out rake, but you're asking a helluva lot, even for him, to be cranking out 200+ hit seasons (assisted by infield hits) when the dude's 39. C'mon now...nothing against Ichiro, he's clearly an elite player of his generation, but the fact is, he came across the ocean too late to think he's going to have a realistic chance at 3000 hits.

Debilitating injuries do not know a specific age, but the fact is, he cannot miss any amount of time for injury for the next seven seasons.

He can always just paraphrase Vince Lombardi, "it's not that I didn't get 3,000 hits, it's just that I was a little short when the clock ran out."

It will be more true than we'll ever know.

even if he starts to slow down at age 40 and so on doesnt mean that ichiro would retire right away. wat if he retires at 45 that means he has about 10 years to get another 1500 hits when he already had accomplished that many in only seven. Also his numbers show no sign of his age slowing him down and he is on pace to hit 3000 by the age of 40. Also now with todays training methods and other stuff people are able to stay in shape and still be pretty athletic.

He's going to START to slow down when he???s 40? I'm a big Ichiro fan, but that's...uh...a bit optimistic. I think it would be very cool to see a 45-year-old leadoff man cranking out 250 hits a season, but the only example we could see of that today would be Julio Franco.

Yeah, he's not doing that.

The two guys who reached 1,500 hits faster than Ichiro are Al Simmons and George Sisler. Simmons had a total of 58 hits after he turned 37, and Sisler missed a lot of time with injuries in his late thirties.

Neither player got to 3,000 hits, but both players were in MLB before they turned 27. These things don't bode well for Ichiro.

Ichiro is different than those two. Ichiro is a great contact hitter who will get many hits over the years. Im not saying **** get 200 hits at 45 but im saying since he got 1500 in 7 years he probbly can do it for 10 years because he is not showing any sign of slowing down

Ichiro is 34 years old! I don't care what kind of shape he's in, he is so far ahead of the curve right now in terms of injuries, the other shoe is simply waiting to drop. Naturally, his body is going to break down little by little, and he's going to lose that amazing first step he has. When that???s gone, he???ll drop from 250 hits a year to maybe 200. Then that will fall off to 180.

His entire swing is predicated on his speed. He's a slap-hitter who is able to place the ball at the exact spot where he can beat the throw by a quarter of a step. When that step is gone, he doesn't beat out half of those, and he loses maybe even as many as 50 hits a year. And none of this even gets into how easier it is for him, a professional athlete since Clinton took office the first time, to yank a hamstring one cold Seattle afternoon in April. That???s a 20 game performance decreasing injury.

I think he's a fantastic player, and he can't be judged on his cumulative statistics, but he will not reach the standard milestones of the typical great player in MLB for no other reason than he simply did not play long enough.

Unless he finds a way to leave the batters box even earlier, he will have a tough time getting infield singles when hes 39.

LOL Nice one, Tommy...and even at the unbelievable pace he's on right now, he'd need to keep doing it until he's over 40 to get to 3,000.

Report Offensive Comment

He'll end up close but I can't see him getting over the top.

Report Offensive Comment

If he played his whole career in the US, then he could possibly beat Rose....But no, he won't get 3000 hits.

So, you guys are trying to argue over this guy's own personal thoughts?

Report Offensive Comment

You got to be kidding me. ANOTHER person from Havertown, PA?

Report Offensive Comment

....what are you talking about, Peavy?

Report Offensive Comment

ya really i decided to make an argument about this

Report Offensive Comment

He is in great shape. Keep that in mind. But 3,000 hits is a longshot.

Report Offensive Comment

Nothing wrong with it, Crudman...interesting name, though.

If any one can keep playing like an all-star over 40 it will be ichiro, he has the stuff to hit 3,000 and more. He keeps himself in great shape and is very disiplined. He is possibley the best all around player ever.
