Tournament Throwdown Group Semifinals: What NFL team is going to have the worst record this season and earn the 2008 Number 1 First Round Draft Pick

The Cleveland Browns.

6 virtually automatic losses in their own division(Ravens, Bengals, Steelers)
Road loss in Oakland in week 3 because Brady Quinn still wont be in by then. Road loss at New England. Road loss in St. Louis. Home loss to Seahawks. BROWNS RECORD AT HALFWAY POINT: 1-7(home win-Miami)

Road loss at Arizona. Road loss at New York Jets. Home loss to Buffalo. Home loss to San Francisco. FINAL REG SEASN RECORD: 2-14(second half home win over Texans included.

No NFL team will go 2-14 or worse but the Cleveland Browns in 2008.

The Browns have a much improved team, they won't finish last.

You know who will?

THE ATLANTA FALCONS!

They did nothing to improve that defense (Ranked 22nd) of theirs. Sure, they drafted Jamal Anderson, but they also lost Patrick Kerney, who would've contributed a lot more than some rookie.

And as bad as he was as a QB, Michael Vick was that offense. Harrington is a horrible decision maker, and combined with the lack of a 'decent' target, he'll be even worse.

Atlanta's O-line is also not really a good pass blocking O-line. That offense is built around a strong running game (they've led the league for like 4 straight years). Their O-linemen are only average pass blockers because they can rely on Vick to escape the rush.

But even then, if Vick can get sacked 45 times in 16 games (ALMOST 4 times a game), Harrington has no hope.

Michael Vick was the offense? I would say Alge Crumpler was as much of the offense as MV as without Alge, MV would of had zero receivers with the ability to catch the ball and thus MV would have been even more of a zero passing threat than he was(nt). Look Joey Harrington is a much better passer than Vick. He will move this team with his arm as Vick did with his legs. The Atlanta Falcons are the easy to pick to be the worst NFL team after the Vick fiasco, but they are no longer one-dimensional on offense and no way is a Joey Harrington led offense worse than a Charlie Frye led offense. The Falcons have everything to prove this year that they are more than just Michael Vick and a bunch of sidekicks. The Browns svck. They cant move the football, they dont score in the red zone and they play not enough defense to hold teams down to less than 20, which is the only chance the Browns would have to win. Check the Browns schedule-find wins outside of Miami and Texas at home. You wont find any. Browns 2-14 is virtually inevitable.

WHAT!?

Harrington is a better passer yet he's thrown more INTs than TDs? And 25 more INTs than Vick in one less year? The fact that Harrington's never reached 20 TDs, never thrown less than 12 INTs?

And how can you deny the fact that Vick was that offense? 2538 rushing yards the last 3 years. Atlanta has been the best rushing team in the NFL for like 4 straight years. You think Warrick Dunn can rush for 1100 yards again without at least a decent threat at QB?

No one's afraid of Harrington. He's not going to beat anyone with his arm. In 3 of his 5 years he's thrown more INTs than TDs, and in one he was tied at 12/12. Vick's only thrown more INTs than TDs once, and that was his rookie year, and even then, he only threw 1 more INT.

Harrington has had better threats at WR his entire career, yet he still failed.

Michael Vick was most definitely that offense. 3513 yards of offense last year. That's 66% of Atlanta's total offense.

And a Charlie Frye-led offense can most definitely be better than a Harrington led offense when that Charlie Frye-led offense has viable threats at WR and TE.

Gee, I wonder if the fact that Harrington put up all those crooked numbers HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT HE PLAYED ON THE LIONS! If everything was about stats in this or any league, then there would be no reason to watch the games, just crunch the numbers, find out who is better by position, and then get a final score and take the family to Vegas to bet your million dollars...........it is not a stat driven world we live in, its an opinionated and argumentitive world, and that is where you fall short Bio. Charlie Frye has shown us how he absolutely can not take advantage of viable threats at WR and TE(unless you slept through all the lowlights from Browns games last year, which coincidentally , would be very understandable).

So wait, the fact that he played on the Lions is why he sucked?

Is that why Kitna was able to come in and put up better numbers than Harrington with even less of a running game than Harrington had and being sacked the second most times, and more times than Harrington ever has might I add.

Or the fact that despite the fact he had a 1000 yard rusher, a Pro-Bowl WR, another former pro-bowl WR, a good pass catching TE, and the best slot WR in the league, he STILL put up absolutely horrible numbers?

And for anyone saying Miami's line sucked, he was only sacked 15 times in 11 games. Quit respectable.

And Frye will be on the bench halfway through the season. Quinn has shown he can run an NFL offense.

As I said, no one's afraid of Harrington's arm. They'll stack the box and stop Dunn+Norwood, and the Falcon's will go nowhere.

At least the Browns have viable receiving threats in Edwards, Jurevicius, and Winslow (who led all TEs in catches last year).

I love your arguments hell of a good Throwdowner !

Browns aren't the worst team in the league but they will have the worst record.

Report Offensive Comment

I'll wait for an argument to vote though.

Report Offensive Comment

Cass.......why 6 automatic losses????

They may not be good, but they have improved.

Report Offensive Comment

Whoa whoa whoa! Browns CAN'T have the first pick in the draft b/c they traded their first round draft pick to the Cowboys! So even if the Browns have the worst record, it still can't be the Browns who earn the first overall draft pick. Automatically my vote goes to Bio1590

Report Offensive Comment

They havent improved until they start Quinn, which they have publically stated they will not do, which means the earliest he would get in would be week 5 or so. By that time the Browns will be demoralized thanks to Charlie "I didnt get it done last year so why are they starting me this year?" Frye. Jamaal Lewis is old and tired and has zero motivation to tap into his deepest gut to play his best for a team that is going nowhere. Bottom line Lewis is there because A) He wants to keep getting an NFL paycheck and B) The Ravens kicked his sorry arse to the curb after last years zombie-like performance. Their best player is TE Winslow, but without a proven QB to get him the ball accurately, he becomes offensively useless.
The Browns defense does not speak for itself so neither will I.

Report Offensive Comment

wow.....nice stat.....but they can still EARN the pick...even though they can't USE the pick right?

Report Offensive Comment

Lana, as usual you are correct, and newbie with the fannation flag profile picture, who cares but you about technicalities?

Report Offensive Comment

Well that's a matter of semantics. And the fact that Cassidy's House didn't mention it makes me think that he didn't realize the Browns had traded their pick and meant "earn" in the sense that I'm interpreting it. If I'm wrong, Cassidy, let me know. Either way, my vote stays the same b/c I think the Raiders will do far far worse than the Browns, with perhaps other teams finishing behind them, as well.

Report Offensive Comment

Actually they will earn it, they just won't have it...

Report Offensive Comment

the technicality matters b/c it shows whether or not you know what you're talking about.

Report Offensive Comment

That Browns DEFENSE you won't speak of, has a better OVERALL defense then your HALLOWED Steelers. Ranking 12th overall.

They are 7th in passing yards allowed. 8 spots better then your Steelers.

last year, they had a better pass defense then your steelers, they also allowed less passing TD's then the Steelers. The Browns also forced more fumbles then the Steelers.

Report Offensive Comment

No need to bring the Steelers into this, Lana.

Report Offensive Comment

It would be fitting if Bio argued the Raiders in this one.

Report Offensive Comment

I think Buffalo may have the worst year myself!

THey play, Denver, Pits, New England, Jets, Dallas, Baltimore, Jets, Cin, Mia, NE,

all to start off the season.....I see a 2-8 start in their first 10 games.

Report Offensive Comment

Sorry Tommy, I'm good at using them as an example:P

Report Offensive Comment

btw cass, I have yet to vote......need at least a start from that guy.

Report Offensive Comment

The Raiders cant do worse than the Browns because they will beat the Chiefs in the Black Hole this year in week 7, combined with a Raiders win in their home opener against the Lions and week 3 win over the Browns at home, the Raiders already will have 3 wins in the FIRST HALF of the season, more than the Clowns will get all year. I am not going to argue the Raiders second half schedule, that may be up to my opponent, but suffice to say the Raiders are NOT going 2-14 or worse again this year, as they have vastly upgraded at RB with Jordan and S with Donavan Darius, and any QB will be better than Andrew Walter was last year. The Raiders have no where to go but up from 2-14 2006 season.

Bio said it best...Atlanta will be the worst team this year...
