Boise has the stats.....BECAUSE THEY DONT PLAY ANYONE OF SUBSTANCE!
Yes, they pull the rabit out of the hat a few YEARS ago with the win over Oklahoma...but thet ONE win shouldnt give them a blank check for life

BOISE BAMA
V-Tech San Jose St
Wyoming Penn State
Oregon State Duke
New Mex State Arkansas
Toledo Florida
San Jose State Sou Carolina
La tech ole Miss
Hawaii Tenn
Idaho LSU
Fresno Miss St
Nevada Georgia St
Utah State Auburn

look how many Bama opponents are ranked or have been ranked
now.........look how many Boise opponent could possibly be upset by a good division II school!

Everyone thought the win from VTech would be the sign....but V Tech is in an off year
And despite Bama's win over Tenn & Florida, both SEC powers having bad years.....BAMA STILL PLAYS OTHER TOP 10 RANKED TEAMS!

Bama 32
Boise 20

I think that would be a fair prediction.

However, you're apparently basing your view of them on stats... have you ever even watched them play? And let's make it clear what we're arguing here. Boise State would beat Alabama in one game on a neutral field - you already seem to be leaning towards the 'Boise State would never survive an SEC schedule' argument, which is irrelevant.

And since you love stats so much, I'll oblige you - let's look at the one game they play in common. San Jose State.

Score:

Bama 48, SJS 3
BSU 48, SJS 0

Clearly, you can't glean much from either offense here. Either team could put up 50 with the second stringers. Defensively, though:

Total yards allowed:

Bama 175, BSU 80

Bama still let them put up close to 200, while BSU held them under 100. Here's the key stat:

Rushing yards allowed:

Bama 89, BSU -12

Bama's defense is good, but BSU's is better - especially their run defense. South Carolina already showed us what happens when Ingram and Richardson are up against a shutdown run defense, and Kellen Moore is a lot better than Stephen Garcia.

My prediction - BSU holds Bama's run game in check and Moore does just enough to win.

BSU 24, Bama 2

wow......

there must be a LOT of kool-aid drinkers in here if so many think Boise could beat bama
must be Obama supporters....willing to vote for someone with no actual accomplishments....

i wont even get into the San jose State game. We actually played into our THIRD STRING
Saban isnt the kind of guy to needlessly pile on points or yards

[and unlike Boise.....our strength of schedule is so tough we dont have to have style points]

In the SEC a 20-17 win over a real team is more respectful than blowing out a cupcake team.

We all agree Boise plays VASTLY inferior teams compared to Bama

so how is it that 12.3 pts per game and bama only allows 12.5?

Bama is playing FAR FAR FAR FAR better teams than Boise....and yet Boise's cupcake schedule gives up as many points.

enjoy the win.

like boise's ranking it isnt based on much.

Remember when Boise played Georgia in 2005?
They lost 48-13. Its a whole new world when you play an SEC team for teh first time

Bama 32
Boise 20

To clear up any confusion, the score in my first argument should have read: BSU 24, Bama 20.

So your rebuttal arguments are:

1.) Compare people that think BSU is good to Obama supporters.... this is relevant or logical how?

2.) Strength of schedule

Most people actually have both Bama AND BSU's SoS in the bottom half of D1 football. You act like Alabama has been playing huge teams - San Jose and Duke are awful as usual. Ole Miss is not very good. Penn State and Florida, while normally very good, are terrible this year. The only good opponents Alabama has played are Arkansas and South Carolina, and they're 1-1 there. So yes, BSU has a lot of cupcakes, but it's not like Alabama is much different. Once they've played LSU and Auburn, THEN this argument has merit, but not yet.

3.) Judge the 2010 Boise team based on the 2005 Boise team.... again, irrelevant. This is 2010 - all of those players are gone.

oh my god

are you REALLY comparing their schedules????

BOISE ..............................BAMA
V-Tech ...........................San Jose St
Wyoming.... ...................Penn State
Oregon State.... .............Duke
New Mex State.............. Arkansas
Toledo ...........................Florida
San Jose State ...............Sou Carolina
La tech ............................ole Miss
Hawaii .............................Tenn
Idaho .................................LSU
Fresno .............................Miss St
Nevada .........................Georgia St
Utah State .....................Auburn

if Bama's opponents played Boise's oppoents ALMOST 100% OF BAMA'S WOULD BE FAVORED TO WIN!

yeah, florida is in a down year...but they would beat wyoming
penn state is in a down year.....but they'd beat new mexico state!
Tennessee would beat idaho
Miss Stat would beat utah state

bama plays BY FAR the tougher schedule

and yet Boise allows as many points per game! despite playing FAR inferior teams

You're injecting emotion and history into your argument. I am telling you that their schedules so far this year are very similar in strength. Look at teamrankings.com, just to pick one of the more popular available computer (IE unbiased) rankings. Based on teams so far, the average opponent strength is:

BSU 23.2, Bama 24.0

Almost identical, and both would fall in between #64 Fresno State and #65 Toledo. So no surprise that they're allowing similar points per game. BSU is #1 in rushing yards and total yards allowed. Bama is #21 and #12, respectively

I also don't think you're giving Va Tech or Oregon State nearly enough credit. Sure, VT messed up those 2 games but hey, USC lost to Kentucky. OSU lost to TCU and BSU, both very good, and only barely lost to Washington after they lost their best player.

Would BSU make it through an SEC undefeated? Perhaps not. That's not the argument though. I'm not saying BSU is way better than Bama, I'm saying that if they were to meet on a neutral field, I'd give the edge slightly to BSU. I'm not sure why this is so appalling.

I think that would be a fair prediction

It is not possible for you to make a fair prediction regarding Bama or the SEC...just sayn'

where fair=unbiased

October 24, 2010  09:10 PM ET

after all Boise IS the better team.

October 24, 2010  09:22 PM ET

Impossible to say.

Bama would probably beat Boise State handily at football. Now if they threw in a spelling bee....

Challenge a guy that doesn't do throwdowns on something that would be pure speculation either way..... insecure much? I'll think about it, but I'll likely be declining this farce.

October 24, 2010  11:04 PM ET

It's impossible to make such a claim either way..I propose the BCS boys let them play for it all and we'll finally have it answered.

It's amazing to me how many people like to think that BSU is so wonderful. Clearly they play an EXTREMELY weak schedule. Do any of the BSU backers REALLY believe the BSU would be unbeaten playing in the SEC? Sure....the played VaTech and were beaten for 3/4 of that game but managed a win. THey haven't beaten anyone else. Now, playing in the SEC means TAKING A PHYSICAL BEATING week in a week out even with the so called easy wins. BSU and the potato pickers will not handle that sort of beating on a weekly basis and come out unscathed. Not going to happen. Wake up and smell the french fries coming out of Idaho.... there is NO WAY BSU competes in the SEC like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina.......just not happening.

Agree with the message, don't agree with your list of competiting SEC teams.

Easy win attempt by right. Boise would destroy Alabama.

These throwdowns aren't won by logic, they're won by popularity. People love the SEC, and laugh at BSU. And I make far too many snide comments to win any votes.

I ran my mouth because I knew it would be easy to get a rise out of somebody like you. That was not very sporting of me, however, so if I have to lose a throwdown to shore up your insecurity issues, so shall my punishment be.

I didn't choose this throwdown, it was sent directly to me. (I'm a newcomer, didn't even know you could do such things). I shall do my best though.

I know it was a joke. I hope Boise win the national championship.

Left challenged right.

And left is a heck of a lot more experienced than right.

Horrible assumption.
