He IS NOT the "most overrated player" in the NFL.
I'll be waiting on your argument...this should be good.
bunglebeater said 10/28, 12:03 PM
My argument:
I have been a ravens season ticket holder since the ravens inception back in 1996. When you watch the games on tv you see Ed reed make an INT and you get all excited. When you watch in the stadium you see Ed fail to provide saftey help for majority of the game leaving the corners out to dry. (See fabian washington vs the bills).
Sure he hits a homerun now and then but his batting average is very low, because he always swings for the fences. The NFL is not about one or two big plays. It is about consistency. If i was coaching the ravens right now, Ed reed would potentially be returning punts and kickoffs if he proved that he could hold onto the ball and wouldn't lateral.
Reed also is a terrible tackler. Those who watch his highlight reels say hes the best, those who watch him all year will often tell you differently. Except unfortunately most ravens fans don't have the intelligence level to see this.

So you're basing your entire argument on a game where you were clearly heated about the defense giving up big yardage in the air?
How was Reed supposed to help when Lee Evans catches a pass right away and sprints right into the end zone because Fabian Washington can't tackle?
Unless Reed runs a 3.75 second 40 yd dash he's not making that play...
When Zibby was starting for Reed he had several INT's bounce right off his hands (like in the Cincy game).
If Reeds there those are INT's and one of them would have been a pick-6, no doubt.
The bottom line is this: you're supposed to be arguing why Reed is the "most overrated player in the NFL"...not why he's overrated.
I'll name someone else who's more overrated than he is: Bob Sanders, safety, Colts.
I've loved watching "Bullet Bob" since he was at Iowa...but he's overrated because he can't stay healthy at all...ever.
So right there, there's a more overrated player than Reed.
I can name some others but i think i've made my point.
Besides, i would rather have a safety who can turn a pick into 6 points all the time than a guy who always plays it safe and can't ever create turnovers at all...ever.
bunglebeater said 10/28, 02:20 PM
Wow I may be done after this argument, because you clearly don't understand what we are talking about here.
definition of overrated: to rate or appraise too highly; overestimate
How many people say Bob Sanders is the best safety? A few but not a ton. EVERYONE knows he can't stay healthy. People are realistic about that. They do not overestimate his ability to stay healthy. Many think Reed is the best. That is why he is the most overrated. Not a difficult concept.
It's not based on one game. It's based on the entire volume of his work. Your comments about Zib mean you do not understand that a safety is responsible for sliding over to help cover. Zib may have dropped the ball on a few INT's but the point is, he was there. Ed probably would have been 20 yards aways, like always.
It was great how you picked one play, when I again am talking about the entire volume of the work. I cited the bills game because it was his first game back and the defense collapsed against the Bills and Fitzpatrick looked like Peyton Manning. Ed Reed is inconsistent, gambles too much, and makes too many mistakes. You like seeing pick six's I get it I do too. Consistency wins championships.
Double J. said 10/28, 02:43 PM
Ed Reed has flat out WON games for the Ravens.
Without his 2 int's last weekend the Ravens surely would have lost.
I love Zibby...but he's not Ed Reed.
Yes, Reed gambles...but all good safeties do. Reed can also return punts if need be and is much better than Zibby in that respect, too.
I don't understand why you insinuate that Reed pitches the ball all the time after he gets INT's. He's only done that a few times ever...and sometimes when he's done that it's allowed the Ravens to gain extra yards.
Reed's tackling is not that suspect...you also have to remember that he's playing with a nerve impingement in his shoulder that can't be operated on or else he must retire.
IF he's ever lax about tackling then that's likely the reason.
He's an undebatable game changer and a future HOFer.
Is he overrated? Maybe sometimes by some people...
BUT, even if he was overrated he would not in a million years be the most overrated in the NFL.
Your argument hasn't backed up why he's the most overrated in the NFL like you claimed.
if you want to do another TD about reed being overrated we can do that.
Jay Cutler is more overrated than Reed...there's 1 more for ya.

Ed Reed is the second most overrated QB. Joe Flacco is the first.

Also how much do you think the Ravens would win minus Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, their # 2 corner their top 2 SS, their olb opposite of Suggs and only had three healthy d-linemen?

well let's see, you pretty much described their 2008 season (w/ the exception of Ray Lewis) and for your information they made it to the AFC title game that season. nearly 20 players on IR that year.
this year they've missed: starting ILB Gooden, # 1 CB Foxworth, Ed Reed for the first 6 games, starting stud RT Jared Gaither is on IR, Stallworth is still out since the preseason, Rice is banged up still, Heap can't get 100% healthy, and Webb and Washington are both coming off ACL tears from last season at CB.
