Let's kick this off old school.

Top 10 NFL QB's Pre-1980!

1) Otto Graham
2) Sammy Baugh
3) Johnny Unitas
4) Fran Tarkentan
5) Roger Staubach
6) Sid Luckman
7) Terry Bradshaw
8) Bart Star
9) Sonny Jurgenson
10) Norm Van Brocklin

Good List Hound.

Here is mine:
1. Graham
2. Unitas
3. Baugh
4. Tarkenton
5. Staubauch
6. Luckman
7. Starr
8. Bradshaw
9. Brocklin
10. Fouts

So, 1 deletion, and two tweaks. Cases could be made for two others, but for this TD, lets keep it to three.

Unitas over Baugh: Clearly, Baugh was the better Football Player to his peers. I mean, punting, playing DB, and QB a professional team and leading the league at times. And I will concede Rate + to you as Baugh has the statistical edge there.

However, Unitas clearly beats him on Passing Yards, season rating, Passing TD's, Interception percentage, TD/INT ratio.

But Unitas has also won 3 championships, 4x MVP, 10x pro bowler, and a 6 time 1st team All Pro selection.

Will hold off further arguments for second and third as you did not argue in your first.

Good Luck.

Forfeited Turn

?Well, kind of disappointing after you direct challenged me to bow out after comment # 20 noting you didn't think I would show......

Starr vs Bradshaw: Starr has more titles, stats that are comparable, and he made that offense go. But lets look closer at the stats:
Rate / Rate + / TD-INT ratio
Starr: 80.5 / 112 / 152-138
Bradshaw: 70.9 / 104 / 212-210

Clearly, Starr has the edge.

Titles
Bradshaw: 4
Starr: 5. The last two ending with Superbowl Titles.
League MVP's?
Bradshaw: 1
Starr: 1
So, on the titles argument, Starr has the edge.

Clearly, Starr has the edge in stats and titles.

And as shown in my first argument, Unitas was clearly superior to Baugh as a QB.

I will wait for the third to discuss my last pick.

I hoped you would argue this.

Do not let Baron or Packers fans hear you utter that nonsense.

I would actually do... retired before 1978. That's the year they made all the passing game rule changes to make it easier on the QB.

He managed a run oriented offense.

QUOTE(#7):

Whether or not that makes him overrated, debatable.

November 20, 2010  04:33 PM ET

Unitas...period. he changed the position.
and where is Len Dawson?
Jurgensen doesn't get enough credit, nor does Graham (I know he is here as #1...not many others know that though)
Norm Van Brocklin anyone?

November 20, 2010  04:58 PM ET

Sonny Jurgensen was not just one of the best pre 1980, but one of the best ever. And why is Billy Kilmer not on that list? How many qb's could get arrested for DUI at night, get out of jail and beat Dallas the next day?

This will be the second person to say something in a TD comment station and then not back up their words. Bear didn't!
