Both schools have solid teams, but the strength of schedule and inferior roster will prevent the Bulldogs from accumulating more overall victories.

To your strength of schedule, I say: Georgia has 4 immediate threats that they could lose (UT, UF, Aub.>); whereas GT has four (Clem, UM, VT, &UGA). So they're pretty much even to me. That's not to say they could lose any other games, but these are the games that stand out immediately.
Including BCS bowls, eh? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. GT still has to make it past VT into the ACC championship. GT is 2/5 in bowls the last five years (beating Tulsa and Syracuse, whoopeee) and UGA is 4/5.

Miami and Clemson are duds, Va. Tech looked to be had by East Carolina's daunting D, and we got Army, Samford (not a typo, but if it was, it would still be a joke). All the potential regular season tough games (Clemson, Va.Tech, UGA) are at home.

Georgia does have to go to Alabama, Tennessee, and Ga. Tech. And it doesn't matter where they play Florida; they lose every year. If they make it to Atlanta (SEC Champ.), they lose to LSU.

Maybe Miami, but Clemson is not a dud. Didn't they wipe the floor with Jacket-swiffer last year? They return arguably the best two RB's in the NCAA. I can match your Army and Samford with UGA playing Troy and Western Carolina. Go ahead and mark off VaTech as a W, but I bet that game does worry you. The ACC schedule is easier, but the competition is comparable.

Inferior roster? C'mon. Wasn't UGA supposed to have an inferior roster last season? I oon't think you can say that with UGA's recruiting.

They got pasted by Clemson, true, but UGA LOST to Kentucky, Vandy, and Tenn. dropped 51pts in Athens!!! If projecting that the defeats from last season repeat this season (excluding week 1), then UGA will have 4 losses opposed to GT's 2 (Clemson/UGA) and again, both games will be AT HOME where GT went 6-1!! UGA was only 5-2 (6-3 w/ Florida) at home when they got embarrassed by Vandy and Tenn.

GT will win the ACC game and finish 12-2 or 11-3, wheras UGA will finish 10-4 or 9-5.

Clemson simply shouldn't be labeled a "dud" b/c of what happened last year, and they still have those talented RB's this year.

Bennett is a step up from Ball, but that's not saying much, especially when he's played against WVU's and ND's defenses. QB is the most important position, and GT's has not gone thru the crucible yet. GT has a good D, but UGA does too. They held a 400yd team to 266yds. UGA wins more b/c they are a better coached and more complete team.

Good throwdown.

If by UM you mean Miami, or Maryland you are clueless, GT owned THe U before they were the bunch of washed up criminals that they are now. And Clemson had a good game against an FSU team that is NOT what they used to be. The SEC is by FAR harder to win in than the ACC.

Tech wins more games, and gets back to the ACC title game.

September 7, 2007  10:49 AM ET

Oh I know SEC is tougher to win, but GT will have a hard time against those teams.
Miami will be better without Wright choking (the running game and D are back), Clemson mopped the floor with GT last year, and VT is a potential NC contender.
You think that GT will make it past their inter-division rival VT to the ACC title game? Cause I don't think they will.

GT SUCKS !!!!

GO DAWGS !!!

September 7, 2007  02:43 PM ET

Right on Ravens!

September 7, 2007  02:57 PM ET

sheet sheet. I didn't mean to say that he could mark off VT as a true W b/c it's not, but I was trying to say that it is foolish if he does mark off VT as a W right now.

September 7, 2007  04:33 PM ET

Reminder: We have a new and less retarded QB in Bennett; so don't count on Reggie Ball gift-wrapping another W for UGA. We also have THE BEST RB in the ACC in Choice; not some dancing queens who get exhausted by the third quarter ( a la CJ Spiller and James Davis of Clemson)

UGA still has the same kinda-better-than-average QB in Stafford who only beat GT by a score of 15-12 at home.

September 7, 2007  04:40 PM ET

The GT defense is more experienced and is more precise; especially at the front.

I don't know if you saw this, but more than 6 players on both FSU and Clemson had to leave the game (temporarily or for the rest of the game) because of injuries during "The Bowden Bowl." They're already piling up for the rest of the ACC and it's only week 1.

Man, did Florida, LSU, Bama, and GT look good!!

September 7, 2007  07:13 PM ET

I am going to withhold judgement on GT until I see:

VT vs LSU
GT vs BC

After those two games, I'll feel like I have a lot better handle on what GT is going to do this season.

With UGA (And yes, I hate them but I watch them, it's a Red Sox / Yankees thing) - They have a tough 2 weeks coming up but luckily grab them at home (SC, LSU). Then two weeks at Bama, vs. Ole Miss. Ole Miss almost beat them last year (I was at that game)

Just glancing at the schedules, I think GA / GT have the same number of quality opponents. I think GA has an edge on head coaching, but GT wins on Defense hands down, and usually it's defense that will win games. GT gets an edge just because we don't have Reggie OMG You take the Ball playing anymore.

I agree that the ACC is just not a football power conference yet, just like the SEC is not a basketball power conference. I hope with some time the teams start playing up to a higher level.

Defense wins championships, sourgrapes. Offense wins games. All of what you say is very valid though.

September 8, 2007  04:12 PM ET

Like I said: The GT defense is more precise and better seasoned than the Georgia D. The UGA D is smaller.

Check the scores: The only good-looing team in the ACC is GT, baby.

BTW, Bennett will have better stats than Stafford

September 8, 2007  08:05 PM ET

Forget the coaching advantage for UGA, their coach is retarded. 4th and 3 in the third and you go for it?

September 9, 2007  09:51 AM ET

So much for South Carolina not being an "immediate threat".

September 9, 2007  09:58 AM ET

Richt is only reason Georgia football is relevant again........They lost a tough SEC game, so what??? Spurrier is a better coach than Richt but it doesnt change what Richt has accomplished as the UG head coach

September 9, 2007  10:00 AM ET

How bout em gets the vote

September 9, 2007  10:01 AM ET

Why didnt you do a TD on Georgia-GT rivalry game???? On who will win.......

September 9, 2007  11:25 AM ET

Thanks, djroxalot.
1)Georgia still would've lost if they kicked the field goal on 4th&3. Does 15-16 sound like a winning score?
2)droopy3, UGA winning against USC is a prediction that most people made. I did say, "That's not to say they could lose any other games, but these are the games that stand out immediately." So don't get your panties in a wad b/c USC wasn't the first team I didn't mention.
3) I should've completed this the day before b/c USC was a more losable game than Samford. It's easy to say that Bennett will have better stats when he's only played WVU, ND, and Samford's Defenses. Once he has great stats against UM, Clemson, and even UGA; I'll acknowledge that he's done something.

September 9, 2007  11:26 AM ET

djsuxalots is the same expert who thinks Favre is still a good qb. Bout 'em, as of this point, you'd vote for my side.

September 9, 2007  11:29 AM ET

That was my whole argument. GT will win more games and Bennett will have more stats; pay attention to the wording.

September 9, 2007  11:30 AM ET

He's unproven to me. That's my argument.
