I am sick of hearing all the soccer fans cry foul about this decision to have Qatar host the World Cup over the United States. All I hear are angry fans claim how "the vote was bought" and everything is so unfair.
So I'm asking, will someone who legitimately feels that this was a poor decision please provide your reasoning. Because I for one am excited to have the World Cup in Qatar.
Don't get me wrong I would have been stoked to have the World Cup in the US. I would have attended regardless of what city it would have been in. But I don't think Qatar is a bad choice and I think it provides a lot of unique opportunity to the sport and the world.

Qatar made a joke of the selection process. In America, we only care about one type of football:
This is all we care about futball:
Qatar can have the so called World Football Cup, but in America's Super Bowl, the entire World watch's our brand of Football.
Here is Qatar's proposal for a Stadium for FIFA.
As you can see, the design is very GAY and appropriate for FIFA.
POP (09) of Qatar: 1,409,423 : AVG hotel per rm/night: $260 (low end)
POP of USA: 305,529,237 : AVG hotel per rm/night: $80 (low end)
What, they are going to fill the stands with sheep & camels? These are not the fans your looking for FIFA.
What FIFA and the world lost out on are intangilbes.
FIFA **** up big time. So go ahead and blow your horn if you feel the need to, but here in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave Vuvuzela you.
Much more to be posted.

Thanks for the visuals. You're absolutely right on the soccer vs American Football. The Super Bowl is an iconic event that captures the attention of fans and a ton of people that aren't even sports fans. By the time February rolls around most people will have forgotten entirely that we even made a bid at hosting the World Cup. So why not give it to a country that actually cares? This will be Qatar's big event, let them have their glory and fun and something to work for. We have plenty of other giant sport leagues and events to keep our attention.
Only thing you mentioned is cost and population. US was an easy choice for that. We set attendance records in 94 because we have the stadiums & means to fill them. Large population & many big stadiums looks great on paper, but the reality is they are spread out over a massive landscape. A ton more travel would be involved than if it were in a smaller country. We have the population in our country but Qatar is boasting it has 4 Billion people within 4 hours flight. That opens much of Africa, Europe & Asia. Their time zone is closer to Europe & Asia, which provides more prime time coverage. See comment 34 for more reasons for the choice.

Soccer and Qatar can go F-u-c -k a Vuvuzela or Veovis In A Snowbank = adult soccer in America.

From my first post "So I'm asking, will someone who legitimately feels that this was a poor decision please provide your reasoning."
Given the title of the argument this post will be attracting soccer fans and people who generally have an opinion on the matter. Disrespecting the decision and sport I'm not sure will help your case.
There are some interesting discussion in the comments at least though, so thank you to everyone who are offering your opinions on the subject.

FIFA lost a chance to convince future Athletes like Lebron James, to give soccer a try as a professional sport.
Yeah right.
USA doesn't need FIFA, but FIFA lost another chance of persuading our youth, who grow up to be worshiped by foreigners. People around the world watch our brand of sports, from MLB, NHL, NFL & NBA, they love our products.
Soccer in America is just a little tiny itch for our kids that goes abroad once you reach adulthood if you want to continue doing it as a profession. Not even Bend it like Beckham could turn our country around to fully embrace the sport.
This is good for America, we will have less of these on the road.
FIFA = Faggitty International Fruityball Association, go sell your sport somewhere else, give is MMA anytime.
Thank God it's Friday.

Someone else can take it, I was going to rip on a country whos leader has given his support to Iran???s right to nuclear technology, and considers Iran???s nuclear project to be for peaceful nuclear energy purposes and where in March 2005, a suicide bombing killed a British teacher at the Doha Players Theatre but I dont know enough about Fifa's systems to argue this

not to mention they suck at soccer
It's not that USA lost the bid that bothers me, it's that Qatar won.

As the picture caption states on SI's site: a country smaller than Connecticut and less population than Houston. It's a tiny country. It's rich, but where are they going to fit all these stadiums that will be needed?

haha, let's see it in the arguments. I think so many people are just caught up in the moment right now and offended by the thought that the US doesn't actually get everything it wants all of the time. When it comes down to the reasons to make the decision I don't see what the fuss is about.

See post #3, but is just scratching the surface. Good luck to you, but you are going to be 0-2-0 at the end of this.

why dont you list reasons that qatar SHOULD have gotten it.
im an american, and i love futbol/soccer. i watch every chance i get. havig said that, i will also say that i dont mind the fact that the US didnt get it. we hosted in 1994. that means since then, only 4 other countries have hosted a world cup. and by the time the 2022 world cup come around, only 6 other countries will have hosted a world cup. so, although i would LOVE for the US to host the 2022 worldcup, it really just doesnt seem fair for us to host another so quickly considering the amount of countries there are represented in FIFA.
however, this qatar thing is really ridiculous. japan, south korea, and australia all would have been much, much better choices.

It's in a very geopolitically unstable region, and they're predicting it will be fine eight years from now? The head Qatar bid official stated that if Israel qualifies, Qatar will allow them to play. The fact that he even had to make that statement shows how backwards the whole region is. I'm not upset about the fact that America wasn't chosen, that doesn't bother me one bit. I'm upset that Qatar WAS chosen.

It's the same reason we pretend to care about the olympics. Everybody (in the US, anyway) wants to see the US beat the rest of the world, especially when it's in a sport that is easily the rest of the world's favorite, while we hardly give it a thought. If we lose, who cares. If we win, it's hilarious.

I'd love to take this, but I'll assume Pi will do a good job.
So many reasons why Qatar was an awful choice.
