Lets get things straight...
A world cup in england = greater than one in Russia
A world cup in U.S.A., (or australia) = greater than one in Qatar!
I mean Qatar???? Qatar?????
Where to begin..
ummmmmm isnt there a war going on in that part of the world????
How the heck are they suppose to have a month long event going on when there is a freakin war going on, a stone throw away?!?!?!?!
Also the country is sooo small, (less than 2 million population), the games will be played on top of each other.. Its just lame, the noice thing about having a decent size country hosting the event, is you get to see various cultures through out the country.. In Qatar, you get to see one culture!
Russia is a lame country compared to England..
Then you look at their bid!
Their head of state couldnt even be bothered to show up! lazy bugger!
Lets face it, the world cup goes to the highest bidder!!
And russia and Qatar threw enough money and **** at them!

Qatar is a middle Eastern country that borders Saudi Arabia and occupies a peninsula in the Persian Gulf. There is no war going on in Saudi Arabia right now. Likewise, there are no declared wars going on in Iran, which sits across the Persian Gulf from Qatar. By the time of the World Cup, in 2022, we can at least hope that no more US soldiers will be in Iraq.
Qatar hosting the World Cup will be a landmark for the region, and a profound statement about cross-cultural understanding. The countries small size will make it a compact location, so fans will have a variety of options of which games they want to go see, and will not be limited like they would in larger countries like the US and Australia - games being played 1000's of miles away from each other.
Russia is the exact opposite of that spanning 9 time zones. Russia is an incredible country full of 100's of different ethnicity's. Talk about various cultures!
Yes, let's look at their bid
The only culture they have in England is warm beer and hooligans.
HighwayCrossingFrog said 12/07, 11:33 AM
Qatar is too dangerous, simple as that!
Although there are no wars going on in saudi arabia, there are thousands of terrorists their..
Have you forgotten that most of the terrorists from 9/11 were from saudi arabia!! Including Bin Laden! Trust me, there are plenty of people that hate us in that part of the world!
Iran hates americans too!
It only takes one terrorist attack, (over a month long period), and the whole event is ruined!
Trust me, plenty of people NEVER want to go to the middle east, EVER!
The world cup buzz is going to b-low!
Then you have to look at the Qatar soccer team, ranked 115th!?!?!? Wow!! Talk about soccer tradition!!!
There is nothing wrong with a large country hosting the world cup! Fans get to travel and see more of the country and if they are too lazy, they can chill out at one city!
England has tons of soccer tradition, it would have been an awesome choice.. Now we have to look at russia.. Nothing against russia, but most people would rather go to England!
Qatar and Russia "showed them the money" and probably a couple of prostitutes too!!
The whole world is LAME!!!!

Ready for the blunt truth? If there is going to be violence/terror at a world event, I would much rather it happen in Qatar, rather than on US soil. Think it can't happen here? Have we already forgotten 9/11/01? There is just a good a chance of it happening here as something happening there.
FIFA is trying to spread the world's game to the rest of the world
2002 Korea/Japan
2010 Africa
2014 Brazil
2018 Russia
2022 Qatar
Playing the WC in England would just be a repeat of 06 Germany
Ever drink English beer? Take your favorite beer, a nice cold Mountain High IPA for me, and drink it down. Now vomit that beer back into your glass. Now drink your vomit. That's what English beer tastes like.
Russian Vodka > English Vomit Swill
It's hilarious really, how indignant Americans get that we got "snubbed" yet soccer isn't even the #4 sport in this country.
Instead of grousing about hosting the WC, USA should focus on WINNING the WC in 2022. That is the one and only thing that will move soccer forward here.
USA! USA! USA!
Let the world play their game wherever they want to. Although it would be nice, we don't need it here.
HighwayCrossingFrog said 12/07, 12:49 PM
ah dude, USA holds thousands of sporting events EVERY YEAR! And no terrorist attacks have occurred! So to say its better to have a terrorist attack over there, than over here, is just a silly statement!
Qatar hosting a month long event, in a region that hates americans and western europeans, is just crazy!
I understand that FIFA is trying to spread to random regions, but it needs to honour traditional countries too!
There hasnt been a world cup in england in our lifetimes.. Sooo to have the world cup in england would just be fantastic! Imagine world cup games at old trafford and stamforbridge! With the big finale at Wembley stadium!
Yes England has horrible beer.. But they have excellent fast food! And their crisps our amazing!
USA has a right to feel snubbed, when a country of 1.7 million with ZERO soccer tradition, neighbouring countries with thousands of terrorists, gets to host the world cup!
And how does russia get the world cup, when their prime minister doesnt even bother showing up?? If the head of state doesnt care, most russians wont either!

Silly is you thinking you are more safe in any one country than another during a high profile world event. There was a terror bombing at Atlanta Olympics in '96.
Security will be high in Qatar, and they have the $ to hire all they need.
Qatar is a dynamic, modernizing, rapidly developing country that is among the wealthiest in the world. It has a low crime rate and incidences of violence are rare.
These are not random regions. FIFA is spreading soccer across the globe.
Understanding different cultures is a big part of what the WC has become. Qatar will open itself up to new ideas, brought in by the Foreign fans. Foreign fans will walk away with new understandings of what Qatar is and who they are as a people. This is a Good Thing.
Having the WC games at those decrepit old stades in England is just egotistical Eurocentric thinking on your part. Russia will build new state of the art stadiums that will blow those away.
FIFA went traditional with Germany in '06 - Brazil is pretty traditional too in '14
The US had zero soccer tradition in 94. Give the Qatarians their chance.
Russian women are HOT and Smokin'.
British women have crooked teeth and are ugly.

The WC in Qatar will be in 2022. So arguing that a war is going on in that part of the world during the WC doesn't make a lot of sense. Unless you're Nostradamus.

Wow what a failure of an argument. Iraq could hardly be called a war. It's an insurgency, and it has absolutely no chance of spilling into Qatar due to its very nature. Please go educate yourself on geography and current events.
And Russia is a lame country compared to England? Wow. Stellar logic. I'm sold.
I agree with your overall point, but come on man.

The Middle East is the modern day version of the Balkan Powder keg. If anything, you could argue there might be more violence in that part of the world come 2022.

As an avid NCAAB fan, I would have to say I enjoy the World Cup as much, if not more than, March Madness. It's one of the most exciting times of the year for most of the world, and a lot of Americans even pretend to care about soccer once every four years.

I do agree that both countries bought themselves the World Cup. But that's just FIFA, one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet. What else do you expect from them?

and that will be the attitude carried on in this country thanks to FIFA's ignorance in passing on the US bid.

Its complete bs. FIFA is possibly the biggest joke sports organization in the world, right up there with the NCAA's refusal to have a playoff.
But hey, FIFA is a bunch of Eurotrash elitists who decided to hate on the US and our closest ally. No surprise considering the crappy calls against the US and England in the World Cup.

I don't disagree with him that I'd prefer the 2022 be here in the US. But saying Qatar is poor choice I don't think is correct. Its not the choice I would have preferred, but its not a poor choice.
Russia on the other hand, is a much better choice than England.

Never understood this term. What makes them trash, the fact that they are from another country? The fact that they can speak more languages than just English? Do foreigners scare you?

It's an extremely poor choice
smallest country to ever host
110 degrees and higher or as Fifa described it "a potential health risk."
they have one of the most pathetic soccer teams ever - that now gets an automatic bid
War is a concern as they seem to be trying to play all sides
known country for human trafficking
men can legally beat their wife
-Environmentally the choice is as bad as political. They are already pumping 2 times more carbon dioxide into the air then any country. Add to that the "air conditioners" they are going to have in the stadiums and see those numbers sky rocket even higher. Then add the 12 stadiums they have to build which will then be torn down right after.
-Indentured servants make up a large chunk of the population
- Oh, and i hope no gay people go to Qatar for the world cup, seeing as being gay is a 5 year prison sentence

They are also promising the new stadiums to be carbon neutral, and the air-conditioning system is already operational in their existing stadium.
Yes, they are under Islamic Law, but they are also one of the most stable governments in the region, and it's one of the most secure countries in the region.
I can't defend Islamic Law, but Qatar is comparatively one of the more liberal Arab countries.

Me neither. Just threw it out there to describe those Europeans (like Sepp Blatter) who think they're better than everyone else because they're all cultured and such. Culture is everywhere, elitists. And no, foreigners don't scare me. I know some of them. They're good people. Blatter? Not so much.

I live in Northern California, at the very top of the valley. Summer temps here often hit 115 because we're too far north to get the ocean breeze from the Bay area.
115 - 120 - after 105 its all the same. HOT.
But its a dry heat.
Nothing an air conditioner can't fix.
