Project the 2011 NFL Drafts Top 10 Picks

Based on the standings if the season ended today. This would give draft order as follows...

1. Carolina Panthers
2. Detroit Lions
3. Cincinnati Bengals
4. Buffalo Bills
5. Denver Broncos
6. Arizona Cardinals
7. San Francisco 49ers
8. Dallas Cowboys
9. Washington Redskins
10. Minnesota Vikings

(Please Note, I am not making an argument that this will be the final standing for the top 10 picks, I am going off "if the season ended today")

First argument, should include the picks.

Second argument, should include the supporting data around your choice. (why the team would want that player)

1. Carolina Panthers: Andrew Luck QB Stanford
2. Detroit Lions: Patrick Peterson CB LSU
3. Cincinnati Bengals: Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson
5. Denver Broncos: Marcell Dareus DL Alabama
6. Arizona Cardinals: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
7. San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
8. Dallas Cowboys: Nick Fairley DL Auburn
9. Washington Redskins: AJ Green WR Georgia
10. Minnesota Vikings: Cam Newton QB Auburn

Note* I believe Dallas would have drafted Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska, if he was not selected.

Throwdown

Sorry for the delay, but here it goes

First, let me give you what took me so long to write this argument

http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/768985

This blog is the 2011 NFL Mock Draft top 10. The other 22 will be coming.

Also, I have a different draft order than what you have. I simply went by what the bottom 10 were on ESPN right now. This is where I found the bottom ten

http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings/_/group/1

So, my top ten is...

1. Carolina - Andrew Luck
2. Bengals - Da'Quan Bowers
3. Bills - Marcel Dareus
4. Lions - Patrick Peterson
5. Cardinals - Jake Locker
6. Broncos - Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
7. 49ers - Prince Amukamara
8. Cowboys - Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
9. Titans - Ryan Mallett
10. Browns - A.J. Green

To avoid confusion, I simply bolded picks I had that were different. I also added two people to the draft.

Should be fun. Best of luck

1. Carolina Panthers: Andrew Luck QB Stanford

With drafting QB Jimmy Clausen last year, it seems that the Carolina Panthers would be best fit to to trade down. Assuming they don't, I am giving them Andrew Luck.

2. Detroit Lions: Patrick Peterson CB LSU

The Lions have built a strong core up front with Suh. I think they get the best CB in the draft, who has the potential to be a great cover corner, and the size to shut down taller WR's.

3. Cincinnati Bengals: Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson

Monster pass rusher. Will help the Bengals who have a solid secondary and LB-core with and real presence up front. Leads the nation in sacks.

4. Buffalo Bills: Robert Quinn DE North Carolina

A solid player who can play both DE and OLB in 3-4 or 4-3. With QB Luck off the board this is their pick. (Possible: Marcell Dareus DL Alabama, who's similar with the ability to play multiple schemes)

5. Denver Broncos: Marcell Dareus DL Alabama

Great pass rusher, and great size to help stop the run. Denver has looked poor in stopping most Offenses this season. Drafting a versatile stud, and getting Elvis (injury) should help put their D back into a top 10 form.

6-10 Coming Next

I guess I'll just explain my picks that are different.

3. Buffalo Bills select Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama

If the Bills are sitting at 3rd, it's too high for Jake Locker or Ryan Mallet. Honestly, I don't think that they'd draft a QB anyway because Fitzpatrick has looked impressive. They are dead least against the run and gave up 100 yards and 3 TDs to AP this week. They need a man in the middle more than a pass rusher.

5. Arizona Cardinals select Jake Locker, QB, Washington

I still think that Jake Locker is rated above Ryan Mallet. Pro scouts think that he is more ready for the NFL. How else would you explain his awful season, yet him still being ranked highly on scouting websites. Plus, the Cards want someone who's ready now.

6. Denver Broncos select Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

No way we go 10 picks without an offensive linemen. The Broncos have given up a ton of sacks this year. They have a great, young RB in Moreno that they need to get going as well. I think the new regime in Denver is going to look to anchor the offensive and defensive lines.

I'll get to the other three picks next

Mel Kiper has Jake Locker rated below not only Ryan Mallett, but Cam Newton as well.

6. Arizona Cardinals: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

That's why I have him going to the Cardinals. Mallett may not be as athletic as Jake Locker, but his talent makes him someone you don't want to pass on. He came into the 2010 season having completed 73.1% of his passes. Locker may be a great project, but not here.

7. San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska

It's possible that with two QB's off of the board, the 49ers will go QB here, but I have them selecting who some feel is the most gifted cover corner to come out in years. They need youth in the secondary.

8. Dallas Cowboys: Nick Fairley DL Auburn

Nick Fairley's stock continues to rise and he may go higher in the draft. For Dallas he would provide a DE in a 3-4 scheme and create problems. (Dallas needs help everywhere)

9. Washington Redskins: AJ Green WR Georgia

They need a major upgrade at the position, which would allow Santana Moss to receive better match-ups.

10. Minnesota Vikings: Cam Newton QB Auburn

Someone will reach on his talents. Someone.

Mel Kiper can suck a big one. And I don't know where you looked, buy Locker is a better pro QB than Newton

8. Dallas Cowboys select Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

This guys talents are too good for him not to be a top-10 pick. He missed this year or he'd definitely be heard from more. The Cowboys have no pass rusher on the defensive line. They are forced to use Ware in blitzes. THey need someone who can get to the QB without blitzing

9. Tennessee Titans select Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas

Rusty Smith isn't the answer. Kerry Collins is old. Vince Young is crazy. They'll trade Vince Young this offseason and restart. Mallet is much more of a pocket QB.

10. Cleveland Browns select AJ Green, WR, Georgia

The Browns have no explosive player on the outside. Josh Cribbs is it. If they got a playmaking WR, Peyton Hillis would be that much better.

As for Cam Newton, he's no way a top-10 pick and even if he does get picked, the Vikings won't be the one taking him. They already have a mobile quarterback who's a shaky passer that they've wasted 5 years on. They won't do it all over again

It'll be awhile before I get to this.

December 7, 2010  03:44 PM ET

I'll be off, and around most of the day. Either way, it'll just e-mail my phone when you make your argument. Looking forward to it!

You skipped the Bills

December 7, 2010  03:51 PM ET

'Skins need a lot of help but they are going to need a QB after this year.

December 7, 2010  03:51 PM ET

Once Newton wins the title, he will become a top five pick and Arizona will select him to make Fitzy happy

December 7, 2010  03:52 PM ET

Cam Newton will not go in the top 10. This guy is out of his mind.

Just noticed that, thanks! I'll make sure I throw their pick into my argument.

If he wins a title, I think a lot will be put on the table. Vikings have a history of drafting the "best player available" but I think with Luck, and Mallett off the board. They would have to reach on someone and I believe the would reach on Newton before they reach on Locker.

Its the same thing that happened with Vince Young

Young was a borderline first round pick until the championship made his stock skyrocket

Never thought of that. But we see how Young turned out

I'm going to try to do my newest NFL Mock Draft so I can shamelessly promote it here

Newton is a better reading defenses and throwing the ball than Vince Young was. Cam arguably has the stronger arm also.

December 7, 2010  05:38 PM ET

I'm thinkin that the Panthers would trade down if they get the first pick. I don't think they will just give up on Clausen without ever really giving him a shot. I could see them moving with AZ or San Fran, especially San Fran who could get an instant hometown favorite in Luck. No way the Redskins select a WR and if they did I would assume they would go get that OKSt kid.

AJ Green to the Bengals.
