I think that Michigan will finish with a losing record for the first time since 1967 when Bump Elliot was the coach. 40 years of history and not one losing record.
Bio1590 said 09/08, 11:24 PM
No, they won't.
If you look at Oregon and App. State they had two things in common:
1) They ran the spread offense
2) They had a mobile QB
No one in the Big 10 runs a spread offense, and ND doesn't either. Michigan should have no problems dealing with the traditional offenses.
mmosl91 said 09/09, 03:42 PM
What games have you been watching...I don't care if it is a spread offense there are some serious coaching issues there...also go back to michigans bowl game at the end of last year...
Bio1590 said 09/09, 10:36 PM
I have watched both games.
Michigan could not deal with a scrambling QB.
Michigan fell because of the QBs. Once they don't have to deal with a scrambler or being spread out they'll find themselves.
And the Rose Bowl? Those were two of the best WRs in college and one of the best QBs. It's not like that's easy to stop.
And in their loss to OSU last year, guess what the QB was? That's right, Troy Smith, the SCRAMBLER.
mmosl91 said 09/13, 04:21 PM
I think that Troy Smith is what they call a pocket passer but runs from time. The press told us the same thing that they do every year...UM is the best...they have a tought D...Hogwash...I tell you now that they will NOT finish with a winning record this season or next...unless there is a coaching change! Les Miles perhaps

Michigan will have a winning record.
I have a feeling my first sentence will be misinterpreted

Report Offensive CommentYou're right Bio....nobody in the eastern US colleges use the spread
offense....that's why they hate the Pac-10

Report Offensive CommentI really wouldn't be surprised if Michigan rebounded to win the conference and got a BCS berth.

Report Offensive CommentExactly.
No one else they play runs the Spread offense or has a QB with the mobility that Dixon or Armanti Edwards has.
And here's a couple things that are interesting:
Last time Michigan started 0-2 (1998), they finished 10-3 and were Big 10 co-champions
Before that, in 1988, they started 0-2, finished 9-2-1 and beat USC 22-14 in the Rose Bowl

Report Offensive CommentNeither have good D's dj
Hart is still playing next week though. Clausen doesn't look great but neither does Mallet, so it'll be interesting.
Michigan definently has the edge with the better RB and o-line, and since ND doesn't doesn't run the spread, Michigan's D will finally have an easy week.

You can do that in a week or two?
OMFG
Bio1590 | 09/09/07, 10:33 PM
Report Offensive CommentWell for the record, at least three teams in the big 10 ran the spread last year, purdue runs a spread, OSU did, and Illinois does. So michigan will have to deal with the spread coming to the big 10 at some point...
xxx84xxx | 09/10/07, 09:36 AM
Report Offensive Commentbut look at App. State and Oregon....both mobile QBs.
Michigan has never been able to defend a mobile QB, and Purdue nor OSU have mobile QBs. It wasn't so much the actual spread that has hurt Michigan, it's the fact that the QBs have been able to take off if nothing was open.
