If you are going to make a statement like that, you at least have to have a decent argument. Here goes.
I'll start by listing some awards that he has won. 14-time All Star. 2-time Olympic gold medalist. FIVE-TIME MVP. Rookie of the Year. Defensive Player of the Year. 11-time All-NBAer (including 10 times on first team). 9-time All-Defensive first teamer.
Now, it's time for the record portion of the argument. Most scoring titles with ten. Most NBA Finals MVP awards with 6. Highest career scoring average with 30.12 which would have been higher if he hadn't made that comeback with the Wizards. Highest career playoff scoring average (33.45) which proves that he rises to the occasion. Most consecutive games with double digits in points with 866 GAMES IN A ROW! And, finally, the highest single-season scoring average with an astounding 41 points per game in the 1993 season.
The first line of MJ's nba.com page reads this: "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time."
Also, I would like to know who these "other guys that were better" are. Michael Jordan, MJ, His Airness. His is simply the best to ever play the game of basketball. No question.

MJ not the greatest? What kind of TD is this anyway? Geez, it's a no-brainer. If you were to even ask all these supposed "other guys", Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dr. J, Kareem, Pistol Pete (okay he's dead, but still), they would all tell you that MJ is the best player of all time. He dominated his sport (well, not that baseball fiasco) like no one else ever has. EVER. Not even TIger Woods dominates Golf like MJ dominated Roundball.
Silly argument. Not even close. NOBODY has ever played b-ball like the legendary MJ. Period.

Very good points, kilroy. However, about you saying these other guys would say MJ is the GOAT. They would say that because they are humble but deep down every good basketball player has the self-confidence to say he's the best there is. So it's kind of a two-headed spear you're throwing around.

Wow! M.J. was, is, and will be the greatest athlete within his given sport and perhaps all of sports. You were just looking to get spanked on this one... You may have an argument in about 10+ years when Tiger Woods wins about twenty (plus) more majors. That's if you include other sports in your argument.
