He's been the closest thing we have seen since Jerry Rice, but yet people are constantly talking about C.Johnson, T. Owens, R.Moss, S. Smith,
mattmillen4president said 09/13, 07:39 PM
He's widely considered the best in the league, so how can you say he's underrated?
I say he's overrated, win be damned. The guy has played his entire career in a throw heavy offense led by arguably the best QB in the game. The front office of the Colts (smartly) constantly load up the offense year in and year out. Finally, he plays a MINIMUM of 8 games a year in a dome, where it is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to complete passes.
Marvin Harrison is a talented WR, but circumstances had more to do with his numbers than his performance has.
Jazinho said 09/13, 07:47 PM
I certainly don't think Harrison is overrated. He runs surgical routes, has speed and quickness, and great hands. He would flourish in any offense. He would raise Grossman's completion % by 5 points, for example.
But this guy has been playing at a near Jerry Rice level but hasn't received the fanfare that he deserves. Jerry Rice was treated as God of the gridiron but with Harrison it's just quiet acceptance that he is really good. He has been underrated. Under appreciated too.
mattmillen4president said 09/13, 07:57 PM
I agree that he has all the tools to succeed no matter where he plays, but if he were in, say, the Steelers offense his entire career nobody would dare mention his name in the same breath as Jerry Rice. I just think that people look blindly at stats and don't look any deeper. The man has had a great career, and I respect the hell out of him, but any Top 10 WR could post his numbers in that offense.
Jazinho said 09/13, 08:10 PM
If he was in the Steeler offense the Steelers would pass more, to him You get the ball to your talent. WR RB whatever. You give the good guy the ball. You learn that in **** Wee.
It's not just about stats. Harrison is the consummate professional, like Rice, Emmitt, Barry. He has devoted these years of his life to being in top physical shape and completely prepared for each and every game. That can't be said about all in your top 10, whoever they may be.
Not all of them would have put
mattmillen4president said 09/13, 08:15 PM
HAHA, they censor peee wee, that's hilarious. Anyway, in case you never noticed, the most talented offensive player the Steelers have had the last 9 years is Hines Ward. They didn't change their philosophy for him did they? Of course not. When you have a system that works you stick to it.
Do you really think there would be any drop off if they replaced Marvin with Andre Johnson? Or would Wayne be considered as good as he is if he weren't in Indy? Look at that offense, it's loaded to the point that they could let Edge walk and not miss a beat. The same could be said for anyone on that offense except Peyton.

Not Underated. Everybody knows what he can do. Just quiet. Like a good athlete, doesn't draw attention to himself off the field. Just leaves it all on the field...

I think that everyone arguing that he is underrated for the past year has stopped the belief that he is underrated.... If that makes any sense

I don't know where you're looking, Jazinho, but everywhere I look, even now Marvin Harrison is 99% of the time the #1 or #2 WR in the league, even as old as he is with Peyton throwing to him.

Jaz. You have plenty of great ideas on here. But IMO underrated is the most overused phrase in sports. Can't a guy be "rated"? LOL

from him not being talked about as much as he should be. When Rice played it was Rice and everybody else, Harrison is included within a group. His career warrants more than that. (I'm not a Colt's fan btw)

Ok, when a guy is commonly referred to from fans by his first name, he's not underrated.

Not underrated but not overrated either. He is a great player. Is considered to be one of the best and throughout his career he has proved that.

Nobody has the consistency of Harrison. Hines Ward is a great player, but a different type of player. He blocks like a m o f o and Harrison not so much. Ward does not run routes like Harrison. He doesn't exactly dismantle secondaries like Harrison.

Agree Matt Millen
Harrison is closer to Art Monk than Rice.....TO, Moss those guys have Rice type games.... 8 or 9 catches for 160 plus yard type games.....More often.....Harrison is a great WR but he is not UNDERRATED.....
