Yes! At least for a year it would allow him to stay coaching NFL level, maybe win a Super Bowl and set himself up for a huge payday as a head coach in 2012. For the Eagles with Fisher in charge of the defense, one would have to pick them as one of the prohibitive favorites to win it all in 2012!

He will get a payday regardless. He was the coach of the Titans for 16 years. He did a good (not a great) job with the Titans and their constant turnover in player personnel.
Why take a DC position when he is clearly a good HC?
Take the year off, spend some time with the family, maybe get a cushy gig like former HC's John Gruden and Bill Cowher have done. Football is not going anywhere. He can take a "sabbatical" and some back when he is good and ready.

Prohibitive favorites??? Um, no. They need to upgrade the OL because they risk getting Vick/Kolb killed. The Eagles OL allowed 49 sacks, 4th most in the NFL.
And they need to tinker with the defense. They allowed 23.6ppg, which was 21st in the NFL.
Fisher needs to pass on this job and sit out while he awaits the perfect opportunity.
BRING THE PAIN!!!

Wow, I really have my hands full countering that argument.
Fisher does not need to jump into another coaching gig right away.
Coaching is a stressful job since you are hired to be fired (eventually). Take some time off, chill, relax, enjoy your family and grandkids (if he has any).
If he absolutely cannot stand to not work? He can get the aforementioned analyst gig.
Take it easy, Jeff.
You earned it.
You will be coaching again. No rush.
