I got this off a SN poll on ESPN

Who was the better skill position player?

Reggie Miller as a shooter

Dennis Rodman as a rebounder

Much to my surprise, the majority of people who took the poll believed that Miller was the better skill position player. I completely disagree and believe Rodman was a far superior skill position player than Reggie Miller.

We all know that Reggie had the total 3 point record until Ray Allen topped him this month. Reggie's record was a great accomplishment until you realize that he took more 3 point shots than anyone in the NBA yet only managed to shoot .395 from the 3 point line, which is only good for 43rd all time.

Rodman only ranks 22nd all time in total rebounds but is the all time leader in one important statistic, Total Rebounding Percentage. For his career, Rodman grabbed an astonishing 23.4% of all the available rebounds when he was on the floor. Pair that with him leading the NBA in rebounds per game for almost an entire decade (1990-1998) and you are looking at the greatest rebounder of all time.

I'm calling homer

especially with your lil tid bit..

Rodman grabbed an astonishing 23.4% of all the available rebound

vs

so i'm going to say this..

John Stockton was better at assists than Rodman Rebounds..

I don't really know why you called this a homer pick. I was simply trying to find someone who could justify Miller as a better skill position player than Rodman. Obviously there are people out there who believe this if you go by the ESPN SN poll I was referring to.

You quote my "titbit" for some unknown reason, but I'll let you know that I was using that to refer to the absurdity of fans believing that Miller was a better skill position player than Rodman.

This TD has nothing to do with John Stockton.

If you would like to forfeit and debate who you would rather have on your team, Rodman or Miller, I would gladly TD with you.

This td has nothing to do with John Stockton

you sure?

Looks like this TD went down in flames. Thanks PCH for bringing nothing to the table, at least for once you had an entire argument with no broken English.

you a hater..

str8 up..

i pray for people like you

Yo, you said Reggie vs Rodman..

Yeah, Reggie led his team to a final's appearance ..

what Rodman do again?

Heater, that's just absurd. No disrespect to Miller what crazy Dennis did on the court was far more impressive, as you are pointing out. I have a couple of other things I'd like to mention but I don't wanna ruin your TD.

Yeah, it was something like 55% of the US voted Miller over Rodman. I was quite shocked.

I think in a poll Reggie would win because most people associate skill position with scoring and Reggie is known as a shooter.

I know this TD is a little absurd but Reggie Miller has his fair share of homers on this site.

February 23, 2011  11:31 AM ET

I wouldn't be suprised if some folks hold some of Rodman's antics against him.

February 23, 2011  11:34 AM ET

No question it was Rodman.

He had a 7 year stretch where he averaged 16.7rpg.

That is freakish.

February 23, 2011  11:38 AM ET

He did not lead the NBA in rpg for a decade.

He only averaged 12.5 in 1990-1991. That was not the best that year.

I stated "almost a decade"

Maybe I'll do this if nobody picks it up

February 23, 2011  01:06 PM ET

He led the NBA in rebounds 4 years. Thats leading a decade?

February 23, 2011  01:08 PM ET

Hard to argue this

I thought Reggie over Mullen though.

It's actually almost 3 decades. In dog years that is. Comparable right?

February 23, 2011  03:27 PM ET

but is this limited to STRICTLY shooting for miller and rebounding for rodman?i feel like you have been kinda vague on this.

miller was a better all round player in my opinion. was rodman a better rebounder than miller was a shooter? probably, but what is more important, shooting or rebounding? when you have a shooter like miller, you can afford to have more players crashing the boards. also, how do you factor clutch into the situation?

Read my argument again, it was "rebounds per game" and he led the league for 8 consecutive seasons. I think that qualifies for "almost a decade."

I would also TD that Rodman was the better all around player. He probably the best rebounder in NBA history and one of it's greatest defenders.

Rodman is hated due to his personality and off court shenanigans... I think most choose to remember him for his quirks and forget the solid game he brought to the table
