I'm surprised to not see a TD of this nature already posted.
After the latest cheap & dirty shot delivered my Matt Cooke, the illustrious Mario Lemeiux needs to put his money where his mouth is kick Cooke's sorry A-- to the curb.
If Mario is comfortable with threatening to quit the NHL over a perceived lack of action on dirty hits and head shots then he should have no problem with dismissing the league's preeminient perpetrator of such hits, who just so happens to be in his employ.
The Pens have the likes of Rupp, Goddard and Engellund around to give protection and intimidation. They don't need Matt Cooke recklessly endangering the health of the opposition, not to mention the image of the NHL.
The most dissapointing part is Cooke actually has a decent scoring touch. He could be a consistent 15-20G player if he focused on playing cleaner.
With Sidney Crosby struggling to return from a concussion the Pens don't need the hypocrisy of having Cooke on their roster.
I hope to have a civil & intelligent TD on this please.

mario is canadian, which means he will do nothing...you sir are correct when you say theat matt cooke does not deserve to be in the nhl and could have been a quality scorer.
"With Sidney Crosby struggling to return from a concussion the Pens don't need the hypocrisy of having Cooke on their roster"
this is where the whole concussion issue is gonna start getting fun. with guys like crosby getting his first real head injury and guys like savard and lindros whos careers were pretty much ruined by them its up to the league to put up or shut up. just like football the sport it self has evolved into a much faster harder hitting league than when the rules and pads were adapted. the league has to have a serious sit down this summer and make some real changes.
you missed one major part of the mario having cooke on his roster....
HE IS THE FUCKING ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
what is does and what he says he is going to do is two completely different things

Way to impugn the entire Canadian population, but I digress.
Since you didn't disagree with me, I'll just have to state my point in a more intelligent manner than you.
As owner and icon of the Pens it is Mario's right and obligation to be the loudest advocate for his team and players. I have no real problem with Mario's threat he made a few weeks back regarding the state of discipline in the NHL particularly regarding Crosby's injury. Not that I believed the threat for a second, but it got the media coverage he was looking for.
Mario is a smart man. He should have known the precarious position he was in with Cooke on his team. Did he sit Cooke down and explain the public statement he just made and how Cooke's play might make Mario look like a hypocrite?
If not, he should have. And if he did and Cooke continued as he has, then Mario is surely justified in suspending or waiving Cooke.
If Mario extends the suspension Cooke will no doubt get from the NHL then I seriously doubt the NHLPA will challenge him on it. And I will return to this very forum and praise Mario's integrity.
Silence and inaction will only lessen Mario's ability to advocate change.

i do dissagree with you mario will do nothing..we will not hear another word out of him until someone goes after someone on the pens. he will sit quietly and wait for an opening to complain about something he is partly responsable for.

mario is all words no action, if he was serious when he made his "big threat" to the nhl he would have had a sit down with his team and warned his team about high hits...nevermind a blatant elbow to the jaw...

Saying Mario won't do anything is not disagreeing with the claim that he should do something.
you sir are correct when you say theat matt cooke does not deserve to be in the nhl and could have been a quality scorer.
That sounds like agreement to me.
Whether Mario, Shero or Bylsma do anything remains to be seen, but I make the case that if they stand silent they lose all credibility to complain about the NHL's supplementary discipline decisions.
What better message to the rest of the league than a team taking it upon itself to dispense punishment above and beyond the schitzophrenic decisions of Campbell, et al.
Show the NHL brass you mean business regarding dirty and dangerous hits by cleaning your own house. Cooke may not be Trevor Gillies, but Mario can't punish Gillies now can he.
By punishing Cooke, the Pens will do more to protect Crosby and others from dirty hits than empty threats and calculated sound bytes.
By punishing Cooke, the Pens will set a standard of accountability for other teams to follow and that will make the NHL a better league.
Thanks for the TD TeaJae.
Go Wings. Beat the Pens tonight!

saying he should do something is going for an easy win...a clear violation of the first commandment of tds...thou shalt not start easy win attempt tds
and yes on a few things we do agree, but where we disagree is i am taking a firm stance on saying he wont do a damn thing where as your saying he should meaning he wont..
on one hand I want to see him kicked out for life...on the other hand i think that wouldnt do any good and he should be maimed and have to endure the constant head aches of post concussion syndrome for the rest of his pathetic live....what this comes down to is the management should have said something after the first hit to the head, if mario wanted to be the pathfinder in a softer league or he thinks the penalty should be excessive for the guilty party it his time to step up with one of his own
