LSU is the best team in the Nation.

LSU has an INSANE defense and a very high powered balanced offense. I cannot see any team putting up 21 points on this defense or shutting this offense down.

The D is talented for sure but they haven't faced a real test until they lose to the best team in their conference, the Florida Gators. As far as your comment about no team being able to put up 21 points on your defense, a very anemic offensive unit in Gamecock just put up 16. As far as the LSU offense goes, they lack a vertical passing threat with Matt Flynn at qb He only had 70 yards passing, 1 TD and an INT against the Gamecocks. They have a RB by committee which lacks a marquee back.

No real tests? #9 Virginia Tech? #12 South Carolina? Naa these teams are overrated right? And yes, South Carolina put up 16, but 9 of those points came very late into the fourth quarter against our second/third team defense (considering part of our second team defense had to start because 4 starters were injured, the third string came in in the fourth). Ill admit Matt Flynn did not have his best game against USC, but our backup Ryan Perrilloux has passed very well. These two share time between them and combined they have completed 63.7% of their passes for 827 yards...id say thats pretty good. As far as lacking a "Marquee Back," does that really matter? Having 4 to 5 backs who can come in, all with different running styles and strategies makes it very tough for the defense to prepare and defend against this offense. Also, having this many backs adds so much depth to the offense. In your opinion who is the best team in the nation and why?

I go to Georgia and I watched South Carolina beat us, and they were overrated USC has the best linebacker in the nation and this whole strength of the SEC argument is getting old. The gap has narrowed and the Pac-10 is just as strong. Southern Cal would have never allowed "USC" with "Blake Mitchell" at quarterback to make a game of it. LSU has the best defense in the nation, but USC also has an imposing defense(best linebacking corp) but with a more loaded offense and a far superior backfield.

Did you mean USC has the best linebackerSSSS...or linebacker? I hope you mean plural cuz one player doesnt make a team #1 or #2. And did you even watch the game? It wasnt very close until our 3rd stringers came in and some QB named smelly came in. LSU has forced every team they have played so far to switch QBs at some point in the game. Dont try to argue that we dont have the best defense in the nation, cuz thats just ignorant. And that good Nebraska team, the one who IS NOT overrated..that supposedly proves that USC is for real..THAT nebraska team...gave up 40 points to BALL STATE and won by a last second missed field goal. you kiddin me?

Calm down it was a typo, I said linebacking corp. My arguement is best team not just best DEFENSE. LSU just isn't as complete as USC. Coaching is a factor too. Notice how I've only been knocking on the offense? It's obvious the transition from coveted Jimbo Fisher to Gary Crowton as offensive coordinator has had its speed bumps. LSU doesn't have any X-factors on offense unlike the Trojans who have a plethora of gamebreakers at EVERY position . #1 Wideout Early Doucet is a potential 1st round pic but #2 Brandon Lafells is hardly a threat. The knock on Les Miles has been his inability to take the talent he has as far as he should while Pete Carroll has been to 2 national championships RECENTLY. LSU had a great defense last year with LaRon Landry but that didn't stop the offense from sputtering repeatedly including against Auburn with JaMarcus Russell at the helm. They put up tons of points against lesser opponents that season too except against Florida and Auburn. USC meanwhile has NO glaring weaknesses.

DAMN IT!! I wanted this ONE!!

USC baby!!!

I love how after every supposed "test" that LSU passes, there is always another one. #9 VT turned out to be overrated and now #12 S. Carolina and still nothing has been proven? Come on, people! You PRAISED USC for beating a #14 Nebraska that put 31 points up on them!

Oklahoma is the best.

The USC trojans went into nebraska, and absolutely dominated the #14 team in the nation. USC should be and is the best team in the country

Report Offensive Comment

LSU only won by a score against South Carolina. In watching that game, they were the better team, but they looked beatable. I haven't seen USC look beatable yet this year.

People give USC more credit because they play their big opponents in away stadiums. LSU always makes them come home. They play a roughly equal schedule, but USC is doing it largely on the road.

Speaking of beating overrated teams. Nebraska had to pray off a last second field goal to beat Ball St. LSU has faced much more challenging teams than Nebraska, a #9 and #12. Down LSU raod is Florida, Kentucky, Bama, and a mulligan for Kentucky in the SEC title game. If LSU makes it unscathed, they will beat USC like the pac-10 stepchild they are.

Report Offensive Comment

Or a mulligan for Florida.

Report Offensive Comment

Yes, LSU did look "beatable" against a number 12 team that they played in a tropical depression. But, then again, I think it may have sprinkled during the USC game yesterday so maybe I shouldn't be saying anything... LSU does not make them come home. This year, yes, all of their hard games are luckily at home. But that was luck, that is all. It switches up every year, people.

Thank you kelbelxoxo Last year LSU faced Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee all on the road. Nebraska put up 31 on USC and then (as already stated) squeeked by against the deadly BALL STATE.....hmmm

You have a better argument saying oklahoma than you do saying USC

People need to get off the USC bandwagon and start seeing things how they really are

Report Offensive Comment

No, it isn't luck Kel. The conference schedule is, but all the non-conference opponents the teams decide. LSU always plays those games at home (i.e. VT), while USC plays on the road (i.e. Nebraska).

USC only let up points at the end when their third string was in and they played prevent defense. That game was over at halftime and USC got it's younger players experience instead of running up the score. Hang them for that if you want, but they are the better team.

Report Offensive Comment

If you are going to use VT as an example, get it right. LSU doesn't "always" play those games at home, as they travelled to VT in 2002 and were supposed to play them in Baton Rouge in 2004 but it got moved to this year. So... luck. But, mostly I was talking about conference games, since those are usually much more difficult... for SEC teams anyway (sorry, couldn't resist).

Report Offensive Comment

OK, what has USC done to fall from its #1 spot? They have blown out every opponent. LSU can't even say that. The game yesterday wasn't really decided until the 4th quarter.

Report Offensive Comment

Wrong again. SC was lucky to get that last touchdown that they only got bc of a stupid move on LSU's defense with a face mask penalty. Before that face mask, it was another field goal and the game was pretty much over even with LSU scoring only one touchdown in the second half. Your question should be, what has made USC so far above everyone else that they are guaranteed that number one spot as long as they stay undefeated? LSU or OK could take that spot over them, IMO, and I wouldn't be shocked.

Report Offensive Comment

Except that USC did incredible last year and was a tough to UCLA away from playing for the title AGAIN. LSU was also very good, but not as good as USC. Thus the Trojans came in at #1.

Now, that isn't to say I agree with any poll. I think there should be a playoff because that is the only fair way to settle it. I'd rather see my team lose in a game than in the polls.

Report Offensive Comment

Case in point, the ESPN Poll has it LSU, Florida, USC. Who really thinks
A) the top two teams are in the SEC
B) USC is only number three

Report Offensive Comment

I understand why USC was #1 in the preseason polls... and I am not surprised they still are. But as far as this TD and best team in the country... I'm still enamored with the tigers. A play off would be very very nice. I believe that if LSU and USC would have had a battle in 2003 for the real Championship, this wouldn't have continued. I guess it won't be over til they finally play each other.

Report Offensive Comment

Wait, why couldn't the top two teams be in the SEC? I think both LSU and FL are great teams (def in there with USC and OU) ... and it is relative til the top two teams play each other. Unfortunately for LSU and FL, they do play each other...

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, I'll retract that. But I don't think Florida is better than USC. Another good thing about the playoff would be that two teams from the same conference could make it, last year it could have been Michigan and Ohio State.

The Polls also leave no chances for underdogs. There had never been a George Mason, even the biggest bowl upsets aren't that big because we know both teams are already very good.
