I want to start this because I had an argument with a buddy of mine yesterday about this. Keep in mind, I like LeBron and I think he is the most physically talened player we have ever seen. I love watching him play and admire him, Wade and Bosh for putting winning first.
I know this is going to become a stat battle but there is one thing that makes you the best player in the league. Here it goes.
When the game is on the line, who is the one player you want with the ball in his hands? At this point in his career, its not LeBron!!!! Until you can answer that with 100% certainty, he is not the best player in the league.
Thats why the best player in the NBA is Kobe Bryant. Kobe is the ultimate closer and all I want from my star is to win the game. Kobe does that for you. Kobe wins. Period.
Also, keep in mind that I am a Mavericks fan and despise the LA Lakers but i cannot help loveing Kobe. I know this is probably an automatic loss but I believe to my core, Kobe is still the NBAs best player.

Kobe is most definitely not the NBA's best player.
Not anymore.
But neither is LeBron James.
Dwayne Wade is. Have you seen Mister Wade?
He is averaging 29.3ppg, 8rpg, 4.3apg, 1.5spg and 1.5bpg while shooting 58.8% on FG's, 35.2% on 3-pointers and 63.3% on FT's.
Bryant?
He averaged 23.3ppg, 3rpg, 2.5apg, 1.8spg and 0.3bpg while shooting 45.7% on FG's, 22.7% on 3-pointers and 80% on FT's as the Lakers got SWEPT by the Mavs.
I know it is a team game but the supposed best player in the NBA?
Does not let his team go out like that.
Michael Jordan never did.

DJ, Im not arguing that Kobe is better than Lebron, although I think he still is. And yes, I would take Wade over Lebron too. But the BEST player in the league has to score more than 2 points in an NBA finals pivitol game 5!
I think LeBron is a great player and had a very good game last night. But when the game is on the line, the best player in the league goes and takes the game over. LeBron not only didnt take the game over but was totally a non factor in the 4th quarter.
In the Heats 3 losses in the finals, LeBron has 9 points in the 4th qurter. He is a great player as long as the game is not on the line. How in the world can you settle for jumpshots when the Mavs are gaurding you with Kidd??? He should be driving the lane everytime!
Big time players make big time plays in big time games! Lebron does not.
DJ, can you tell me that if you could take 1 player in the NBA to win a game for you in the final minute, it would be LeBron? Not a chance. And until you can say that, he is not the best player in the league.

You are not arguing Kobe as the best player? You seem rather confused.
"Thats why the best player in the NBA is Kobe Bryant."
That was in your first argument.
"Kobe is the ultimate closer and all I want from my star is to win the game."
Did you see how Kobe and the Lakera fared against Miami this season?
Kobe was not "clutch" by any means.
"Kobe does that for you. Kobe wins. Period."
Listen, the Lakers got SWEPT by the Mavs in pathetic fashion.
Since when does a "closer" let his team go out like that?
Short answer? He doesn't.
Kobe was and still is a great player, but he is no longer the BEST or probably even Top 3 anymore. He might make my Top 5 but it is clear he needs help.
Updated statline:
Wade is now averaging 28.4ppg, 6.8rpg, 5.0apg, 1.6spg and 1.4bpg in 5 games while shooting 57.6%, 36.8% and 69%.
That is pretty clutch when you do it in the NBA Finals. Waaay better and more efficient stats than Kobe has ever posted on a huge stag like this.
The reason they are down, 3-2?
Is not a reflection on him but how some other players are not stepping up.
Wade is the best player in the League because he steps up when it matters.
BringThePain said 06/11, 02:18 PM
This has become a TD completely different than what I intended. With 90% of the people I talk to, LeBron is considered the best in the NBA. I do not believe that.
I wanted someone to take this TD who thinks LeBron is the best player in the league. Sorry for the confusion. I believe that Wade and Kobe are better at this stage in their careers than Lebron.
"Wade is the best player in the League because he steps up when it matters."
This is the excact point im trying to prove. You can be as skilled and athletic as LeBron but in the end, you have to win. Wade does win. He has proven it time and time again.
But so has Kobe, and the 6 rings prove it.
So we are in agreement, Lebron is not the best player in the NBA!

Dirk Nowitzki, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul are all players that you could make arguments about.
I think currently, as in today, Dwayne and Dirk are better then LeBron but over a course of a season, I do not think there is a player that can put up the all around stats that LeBron does.
This should be a good TD if there is good argument and it really depends on how you look at it. I bet that left will win because all of the LJ haters though

Please say there are not internet fights on this site! In the end, both people are hated heavily by different people. I have to admit though they are fun to watch so fight on.

I hate Lebron, but he is the best player. Nobody else comes close to averaging a triple double with over 20 points a game. That said, I wouldn't want LBJ on my team and I don't think he is the man in Miami.

DJ and Yakov are kinda like a couple few peeps over on the message boards. They'll either work it out or they won't.
I do have to say though, I love the 'beat you with ignorance' line! Though it doesn't really apply to you.

No, I think that Wade is the leader and #1 in Miami. He is the only player on the Heat that most people can stand and is performing very well in the clutch right now.
