Now that you can add the amount of time Vick will be forced off the field and the fact that he was already the most overrated QB in the league no team will be desperate enough to take a chance on him. NOt to mention his tarnished reputation, he is bad for team sponsors and football.

I wish you were right. I don't ever want to see him play again, but unfortunately, he will. He will have to serve his 2 or 3 years in jail and probably a 1 year suspension from the NFL, but after that some team will develop amnesia and take a chance on him again.

The NFL is all about dollars and cents. I agree there are some team owners who would take a chance on Vick, but there major sponsors will not allow it. Look what Nike did. When a team has a sponsor that team represents said sponsor, with that being said who could withstand Vick representing them. Plus I think Goodell will hand down more than a one year suspension, thaqt is after he completes his two seperate jail sentences he still has state charges to face after he gets done with fed time.

Look at how forgiving the NFL has been in the past. I know these crimes do not match Vick???s but:

Tank Johnson will be in a Cowboys' uniform in 6 more games
Ricky Williams has had more chances than anyone deserves
Pacman Jones, while suspended now, had too many chances

The NLF is very, or should I say too forgiving, when it comes to giving players another chance. When Vick is eligible to return, here is how I see it playing out

Some team will be desperate to start the "Michael Vick comeback tour". The team's PR firm will tout Vick as changed man and he vows to stay clean. He will make a large donation to PETA. He will sign for the minimum and behave for a year. Once the team has "proven" that he is now clean the sponsors will come back. Maybe not the same ones he had before but looking at it from a marketing standpoint a rehabilitated Mike Vick will sell million$ in merchandise.
Teams only care about marketing a player to fill the stadiums. Marketing execs only care about selling products. Fans will always care about a feel good comeback story.
As sad as an indictment this is on society, it's true. The bottom line and maximizing profit$ is all that matters to owners

The severity of your aforementioned do not begin to match what Vick was convicted of. And yes I agree the NFL has been very forgiving in the past, but with dictator Goodell in charge of things how could he justify suspending Vick for the same amount he suspended Pacman and might I add that Pacman was not convicted only suspected.I thought the punishment for Tank was too harsh.

Vick will be made an example of, what better way for the NFL to save face than by making sure Vick never plays again.

As I said before the almighty $$ trumps moral the consciousness of owners. Concerning the suspension, Goodell will probably only suspend him for 1 year after his prison sentence, but only he knows how long it will be. We won???t know for sure until it happens. As far his prison sentence, he is paying top dollar for his lawyers to get him the lightest sentence possible. There are people in jail who did more heinous crimes than Vick did and they seldom serve their full sentence. They get minimum time and early release and they do it with lesser attorneys than Vick has. Even with the added State charges, I honestly don't see him being sentenced more than 3 years and eligible for parole after 18 months. I'm sorry, but that's the justice system for you. While he is in prison, everyone will develop amnesia and forget why he was there. Seriously, he will not be front page news within a week of showing up for his term. By the time he is released the team most likely to sign him afterwards will have had plenty of time to get the PR machine going. The forgiving and short-memory nature of John Q. Public is why marketing firms are very successful.

The State charges may be thrown out. Wait, wait, and wait some more.

September 26, 2007  11:57 AM ET

I don't think he should play again but I do think some team will take a flyer on him.

The state charges will not be thrown out if anything the state charges may call for more time than the federal because because he has exausted his plea bargain with the feds

September 26, 2007  01:08 PM ET

Wait, so because of dog fighting he can't play again? If a non-celebrity had been arrested for dog fighting I am sure there is a good chance they could return to work after their sentence was up, providing they could still perform at the level dictated by their occupation. Vick will still be able to play football physically, so let's not go overboard here.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. You tell me of a major corp. that will hire or re-hire a convicted felon?

September 26, 2007  01:26 PM ET

Besides Enron?

September 26, 2007  01:29 PM ET

Little killed a wife and mother of 2 childrens(??) and he GOT paid, I think they even renew his contract...someone check that for me..Some crazy things can happen in this world...However if he is OUT of the NFL for 2/3 years than I don't see him returning due to lose of skills...He will be completly out of shape by than..plus where does he fit in than? QB? Who is going to have a need for an out of shape QB?

September 26, 2007  01:39 PM ET

Vick just tested positive for Drugs.....will NEVER PLAY IN THE NFL AGAIN.

Mike was like "Damn dog, I got warrants and charges pending, light up that blizzity blunt blunt"....LOL

September 26, 2007  01:48 PM ET

Weed doesn't even suspend you on the first offense. And plenty of corporations hire convicted felons. This is a country all about second chances.

September 26, 2007  01:50 PM ET

Be careful B0mb3rs, you're going to get me in trouble for laughing too loud at work. Too many prarie dogs around here.

September 26, 2007  01:53 PM ET

The sponsors will WANT him back, as wrong as that is, because he will be a marketing paradise when everybody tunes in to see Michael Vick again. He is not a bad player and will play another down. I guarantee it.

September 26, 2007  01:55 PM ET

It's not the fact that it's weed, it's that he BROKE HIS PROBATION, another crime...that will be PUNISHED severely.

Your supposed to get your act together, not KEEP SCREWING UP.

September 26, 2007  01:56 PM ET

He will be made an example of there is no way Goodell can justify suspending Vick only one year after he suspended Pacman for the same Dictator Goodell will make an example of him Too bad guys right or wrong that is the way it is
