I'll take you on this because your last opponent bombed out. I'm pretty sure you're gonna get the win because everyone hates Ms. Carlson at the moment, but hey... who doesn't like a challenge every now and then?

Jenni Carlson isn't a coward. She's already asked Gundy twice to explain what parts of her writing was fiction and he's dodged her both times by saying "I don't want to talk about it".

As for if it was bad writing or not, it's all from your point of view. Jenni's saying what she honestly thought and has every right to do that.

Now if this was an argument over if Jenni Carlson is a terrible person who should be banished to an island full of dinosaurs, then I'd probably side with you on that.

Yes??? I will reargue. My 1st argument will be same then I will add some fresh reasons. Journalistic responsibility requires more than the cheap popshot that Jenni Carlson wrote on Oklahoma St quarterback Reid. College Athletes are students and don???t deserve personal attacks on their personality. Comment on their game performance???yes. Comment on criminal offenses or academic misconduct/eligibility. That goes with the territory. This is not professional sports, no one is being paid, and a reporter can???t go on a misguided character assassination.

Jenni, demonstrated that she is the one who has a lack of character ??? not Reid. She is the one who can???t stand the heat, and in this story she is the only one deserving it. When I first, saw the video I thought Gundy had lost it. After reading her column, I now applaud him and the fact that the University is backing him.. He is a collegiate coach. He has a responsibility to back his players when they have not done anything wrong. Coaches go into the homes of high school kids every year and look mothers in the eye and reassure them that they will look after their sons. I???m glad he did.

Jenni has tried to talk to Gundy about this, but he's just avoided her so far. She seems intent on proving at least why she wrote what she did, if not that she still thinks she's right.

A personal attack these days has more to do with how the person takes it rather than what the person said. Don Imus's statement on the girls basketball team (Rutgers right? I forget...) was not that bad of an insult. "Nappy little heads"? Gimme a break. That's something you hear on the playground.

If players can't learn to take an insult, no matter how uncalled for it, I don't see them getting very far in life without complaining about it to someone.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose this argument just because everyone hates the lady, but I still wanna argue this with someone.

This is not the case of how someone takes it.. Her intent is clear.
Jenni quoted Reid: The coaches made a decision. I just have to go with it, get better and get back on the field. She than wrote quote: There's something to be said for not being a malcontent, but you can almost see Reid shrugging his shoulders as he says those words. Does he have the fire in his belly? Or does he want to be coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken? That scene in the parking lot last week had no bearing on the Cowboys changing quarterbacks, and yet, it said so much about Reid. A 21-year-old letting his mother feed him in public? End quote. Jenni took it out of context, twisted it to her agenda (inferring he is a mamma???s boy) without a single source. If true why cant she back it up. As for Gundy, answering ques became issue after the column so it is moot issue here. Besides in the rant.. he denied her allegation that coaches said reid is scared and that Woods threatened to transfer. Players can take insults on their on-field play but this article had nothing to with this.

Yeah it's pretty hard to argue against that. Alright, it's agreed, she's the devil.

Just glad to see a coach back his players and not put up with cheap popshots. There is a freepress but reporters should not be able to hide behind it to excuse all decorum and responsibility. It is rare that a reporter has their feet held to the fire especially sports reporters.

In his tirade he pointed out a few of the things she had written that were incorrect. If he takes the bait and responds to her, he is giving her article credence and a measure of legitamacy. I don't know anything about her or her previous work but I agree that this particular article is garbage. It is based on no facts or concrete evidence by her own admission. We are talking about a 20 year-old college kid that has done nothing to deserve being ripped in the press. If it were my kid, and I have two of similar age, one a college athlete, I would want her head on the proverbial platter.

Oh yeah I agree with you on the cheap shot. I think she's a huge jerk and would love to punch her in the baby maker.

She is a coward... she went after a college kid for his relationship with his mom and eating chicken. Did this without interviewing him or any other OSU player or coach. That by definition is yellow journalism.

Good to see Stoops has Gundy's back.

ESPN has article that when Stoops was asked about the situation "Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops thinks the media has become too jaded, too contemptuous.I find it hard to read the sarcasm in those articles," said Stoops, whose team is ranked third in the nation. "They're student athletes. They're not professional players. They're just playing for their school, trying to do a good job."

This is why Stoops is a class act in college coaching

The QB Woods did not threaten to tramsfer.....FACT.....She called him soft and a bunch of crap.....I hope she has a son that is a tub of lard and gets teased.....Leaving her to explain to him that people should know better.....But I hear she's a l.e.s.b.o.

September 30, 2007  09:55 AM ET

They are all hypocrites....what she said wasn't that bad, and if it is SHAMEFUL, then DONT DO IT!

College or NOT, he is in the public eye, with Beat Reporters following them.....their job is to MAKE A STORY when no REAL story exists, she did a good job, without using ANY lies

September 30, 2007  11:19 AM ET

As I said before, hardly anyone would know about this if Gundy had not blown up and caused this to be all over youtube. Gundy did more damage to this kid than the reporter ever could have. Gundy didn't defend his player, he destroyed him.

September 30, 2007  10:17 PM ET

Lana you are flat wrong. She stated Woods their wide receiver threatened to leave but can't back it up. She stated Reid was scarred which was denied and couldn't back it up with any sources. Journalism even beat writers is to base their column/story on facts. It may not be a "lie" ie intentionally lying but a journalist needs SOURCES to back it up. She hasn't produced that. She took a chicken lunch out of context and even admitted it had nothing to do with the benching. If she can't take the heat from Gundy go knit something.

As for **** thing... its not relevant and shouldn't take shots at someone for rumors or even facts regarding sexuality. Its the 21st century for God's sake.

KRB actually his university, staff, and players are behind him. Regardless on your view all media reports have spoken to that point

Is that the same media you pointed out in the Stoops quote above? You can't have it both ways, either the media was wrong or they weren't. Sure the media needs sources, but guess what, she was giving an opinion on certain events. If we no longer allow opinions, most every news outlet, paper and TV, would shut down.

At this point it doesn't matter what the media says or does, and the same goes for Gundy and OSU. I still say most people would have never heard of this if Gundy had not blown up. Gundy did more damage to the kid than any reporter could think of.
