THE PIT home of the NM lobos is the loudest college BB arena in the nation and 2nd best colege arena
GO_LOBOS said 06/30, 06:00 AM
the pit always packs the house being in tha top 25 in attendance since it was built in 1966, its roof is really low and the seat are so close to the court the fans are practically sitting over the players making the noise almost unbearable, it even gots the looks to back it up on the outside after its 67 million dollar face lift i dont see any arena tht looks as nice as the PIT and its the 2nd best arena behind dukes arena

"Colege?" Is that the result of a New Mexico education? I'm just giving you a hard time. I know it's just a simple error and clearly you know how to spell it, but it's still funny.
Anyway, although your choice of UNM Arena being the loudest and second best arena in college basketball is not without merit, I have to say I completely disagree.
In terms of "loudness" New Mexico is certainly one of the louder arenas. However, it would appear that it is not the loudest. Looking at various lists composed by NCAA Basketball writers concerning the decible level inside college basketball arenas, New Mexico was often not listed. And if it was it received honorable mention only.
Also, last year, ESPN (with the help of Penn State) conducted a scientific study that projected the measured decible level within college basketball stadiums:
#1 was Allen Field House - Kansas
#2 Cameron Indoor Stadium - Duke
#3 Rupp Arena - University of Kentucky
#4 UNM Arena - New Mexico
So from neither the popular fan view or the scientific angle is New Mexico the loudest.
I will address the "best" arena next argument.

first off, the reason for only one L in college is because i ran out of characters i had to condense to make the post fit, now on to the argument that matters, if u want to talk decibels a lobo game in the pit reached 125 decibels (stated by sports illustrated) tha highest of any college basketball game tht ever took place so far its amazing considering the fact that the pain threshold for the human ear is 130 decibels, the pit was ranked #13 out of every sports venue in the country by sports illustrated and highest ranked basketball venue, like i stated before since the pits been built in 1966 its made the top 25 in attendance every single year no other college venue can say tht(look it up) must i say more ill let this video by CBS SPORTS do the talking (i dnt know how to actually post a video since im new to this site but this is the address to the video........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRHroBuEd2c

At Kansas, more fans sit closer to the floor of the court than at any other arena. This is one of the reasons why the noise level gets so loud. Also, I would be sceptical that 125 decibels is the loudest a crowd has ever become. Maybe it's the highest RECORDED, but if it were actually the highest, college basketball would find itself behind many other sports in crowd noise. And that's only one time.
Getting to the second part of your argument, that UNM Arena is the second best arena in college basketball after Duke's, I have to totally disagree here as well.
In an ESPN survey, 8 ESPN writers ranked their top 5 overall college basketball arenas.
Only 1 out of the 8 writers picked New Mexico for their top 5. However, 6 of 8 included Kansas in their top 5.
Additionally, collegehoops.net rated Kansas' Allen Field House as the best place to watch an NCAA Basketball game. New Mexico did not rank.
Clearly, people are going to have personal opinons and experiences, but the common consensus looks to be that New Mexico is not second best arena overall.
Here's another "Top 20" list. The Pit is ranked #19.

first facts you actually use in this argument and they happen to be way out dated yes iagree THE PIT before its renovation would bearly crack the top 10 but that top 20 list was made 2-3 years ago before the renovation by some random regular guy which he got a ton of heat in the comments for how bad his list was the espn lists once again made before the new renovation after the new renovation is what makes the pit one of the best venues in america if ur going to post facts atleast make sure they are up to date LOOK AT THE FACTS 1. NO OTHER ARENA CAN BOAST THEY BEEN IN THE TOP 25 IN ATTENDANCE SINCE BUILT (UNM 45 YEARS IN TOP 25 AND STILL RUNNING) 2. THE PIT HAS THA LOUDEST DECIBEL GAME RECORDED IN HISTORY OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL DOUBT SI.COM WOULD LIE ABOUT THAT ONLY 5 DECIBELS LOWER THEN THE HUMAN EAR THRESHOLD CAN TAKE IF OTHER ARENAS REACHED HIGHER THEN THE PITS DECIBEL LEVEL IT WOULD DAMAGE THE EARS SO THA FACT YOUR SAYING OTHER GAMES ARE LOUDER IS TOTAL BULL CRAP 3. $67 MILLION RENOVATION MAKES THE PIT ONE OF THE NICEST. AND SI.COM AGREES THEY PUT THE PIT IN #2 IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND #13 OUT OF ALL SPORTS VENUES IN AMERICA AND SI IS WELL RESPECTED

You do realize that shouting at me with caps on doesn't really raise the decibel level, because we're having this conversation on the internets. Not in person.
Also, my duping friend, although 130 may be the pain-threshold for the human ear, you're not implying that sound cannot exceed this level are you?
In Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup finals a measurement level of 134 decibels was recorded. Also, in the English Premier League, the top 5 loudest teams all record a decibel level of over 125, with Sunderland the highest at 129.2
In 2007, Oregon Football recorded a level of 127.2. Clemson has hit 126.
Also, my Top 20 Arena video was only posted last year. The ESPN/Penn State Study on arena noise was conducted at the end of last year (2010). So I'm not sure why you're trying to say my sources are outdated from a few years ago?
Perhaps the biggest thing holding the Pit back is the fact that it's in New Mexico? Now, to counter my insult, just make sure you log-in to the correct account.
Here's a video in my native language that has nothing to do with this topic, yet somehow it fit.
