DeSean Jackson Is A Better Pro Prospect in 2008 Than Ted Ginn Jr. Was In 2007

Both were lightning quick track stars, pre-season Heisman candidates and Ted Ginn Jr. was a great punt returner and a pretty good receiver, however, DeSean Jackson will be a better pro because of his superior, route running and receiving skills. The one knock on DeSean Jackson has been his frail frame, which will be improved upon once he starts on an NFL strength program.

True, they are similar players. However, I'm skeptical of a receiver from Tedfords offense finding the same success in the NFL. Cal is promoting Jackson heavily for the Heisman, which is great. Marshawn Lynch may yet be the exception, but many of Cal's players fall flat in the Big League.

Thats only been proven for Tedford's QU-ART-ER-BACKS( as Vince Young eloquently put it)

Coming out of high school Jackson was actually the top rated wide receiver in his class and unlike Ginn, Jackson has actually had a 1000 yard receiving season. Many of Ginn's catches were screens or dump passes where he'd simply use his athleticism to elude tackles and run past guys. That won't be as simple to do in the NFL. Jackson on the other hand offers the element as a deep threat. Ginn averaged 13 yards per catch in contrast to Jackson's 18.2.

Not just QB's. Its been awhile since he's had a successful receiver also - at least as long as he's been at Cal. I don't know where your coming up with 18.2 either. He did avg 18 last year, but so far this year is only at 8.9 with his longest being 25 yds. If basic college defenses have so far been able to contain him, what do you think NFL defenses will do to him?

He's had an injured thumb this season so I used his last full season in 2006 as a sophomore.

He caught 18 ypc and caught 59 balls. He also runs around 4.2 in the 40. He does everything Ginn can do but more on top of it. Tedford has only been at Cal for 5 years. As an offensive coordinator at other schools that was the knock on him.

But he's known for producing system "QUARTERBACKS" NOT WIDE RECEIVERS. But nonetheless, the Golden Bears still run a balanced offense but his

Like I said above DeSean Jackson was a stud before he got to Cal. You can't teach some of the skills he's got.

I dont argue that Jackson isnt talented. He certainly is. I know what Tedford is known for - I also no there are currently NO WR's in the NFL who went to Cal. So far this year, Jackson isn't even the most productive WR on HIS TEAM. He is exciting to watch but not more so than Ted Ginn was. I would put them about = to each other. Jackson will need to build up quite a bit to take the punishment of the NFL.

Players on the offense side, that is.

Jackson speed is even if not faster than Ginn, and Jackson catches the ball much more often than Ginn did. Also where are you getting the "skeptical about a reciever in tedford's offense"? Forsett has ran for half as many yards as Longshore has thrown (that's amazing for a team with as good of a passing game as cal has), Tedford's play calling is pretty balanced.

Tedford offense works well in College game and so do his players. But it hasn't translated to NFL success. That is a Fact.

No question Jackson is better...................

If Tedford isn't known for producing NFL receivers desn't that make what DeSean Jackson is doing even more impressive? He's the only 1000 yard receiver since Tedford has been at Cal.

I am not sure either will ever be an elite receiver in the NFL but if one stands a better chance it has to be Jackson.

that 18 is correct for his career, by my math at least

once he starts on the NFL Strength program (steroids)

its called weight lifting. The NBA does it 2. Steroids wouldnt really benefit a wide receiver whos best asset is his speed
